Megosh Thistlethorn says 'Greetings Connun! I am Megosh Thistlethorn first Ranger of the Storm Reapers of Rivervale. I journeyed many years ago to the Surefall Glade far to the west of our lovely shire. It was there I trained with the human and half-elven rangers that like the Storm Reapers are faithful disciples of Karana. I have returned now to Rivervale to teach our interested young people the ways of a ranger of the Storm Lord, so that we may defend our shire and the wilds of Norrath from the [evil forces] that would see it destroyed.' You say, 'What evil forces?' Megosh Thistlethorn says 'Currently the Death Fist Clan of Orcs, a race of bloodthirsty humanoids concerned only with expanding their territory and slaughtering all who stand in their path, threatens our homeland. The Orcs have long had a minor presence in the Misty Thicket but lately they have been amassing in greater numbers. The Death Fist has been chopping down our trees and quarrying rock from the nearby mountains. We know only that they have been shipping the materials to the commonlands and stockpiling it for what purpose we do not know. As rangers of the Storm Reapers it is our duty to [stop the desecration] of the thicket.' You say, 'I will stop the desecration.' Megosh Thistlethorn says 'First you must outfit yourself for battle with the Death Fists. Seek Bipdo Hargin here in Rivervale and give him this letter. He will instruct you further on getting yourself outfitted for the tasks ahead. Once you have been outfitted in a suit of Thorn Mail Armor return to me and I will instruct you for your [next task].' Your Location is -222.35, -71.61, -21.81 Hand Bipdo the note Megosh gave you. Bipdo Hargin says 'Pleased to meet you Connun! You must be one of Megosh's new trainees. Megosh has asked me to help get you outfitted in a suit of armor to protect you from the vile weapons of Rivervales foes. I have assembled a kit for you that will allow you to construct the armor pieces once you have gathered the necessary components. The required components vary according to which piece of Thorn Mail armor you are planning on assembling. Do you wish to craft a [thorn mail coif], a [thorn mail bracer], [thorn mail gloves], [thorn mail boots], [thorn mail sleeves], [thorn mail leggings], or a [thorn mail tunic].' You say, 'I want to craft thorn mail boots.' Bipdo Hargin says 'To assemble Thorn Mail Boots you will require two [silk thread], two ruined thorn drakeling scales, and two giant thicket rat pelts. Was working these quests last night with my lvl 10 ranger. He's not twinked or anything. The hard part was criss-crossing the zone looking for spiderlings for the spiderling silk for threads. Save your time and head to Field of Bone and clear out the bone ?? hatchlings in the underground area in the green left from the path from EC.

Did entire set of armour in less than 24 hours ...just farm silks in Feerrotts nort east corner..not misty thicket

Just an update, I was bored and decided to take my lvl 36 ranger back to the thicket and finish his newb armor quests and got 2 giant thicket rat pelts in about 15 mins so it can be done. I just wish the armor quests for my dark elf toons were completable, lol.

Well, nearly every drakeling I have killed on MS has dropped some kind of scale or another, but after killing nearly 100 GTR, have seen 2 heads and 0 pelts. Tried killing all the large ones, no pelts on them either

All newbie armour quests are magic, prob just doesn't say and so...

No. You are mistaken. If it doesn't say something is a Magic Item, then its not. The ranger weapon and the boots do not say Magic Item. If you look all the rest of the classes do say so.
As I happen to have the weapon and the boots, I know that they are not magical.

Bipdo Hargin is at loc n221,n71,n21. he's back around on the far right of Rivervale as you come in from Misty Thicket, first hole in the ground on the right.

There are no pelts on these ***!!%%% giant thicket rats!
I am already named rat slayer after the tons of rat corpse I looted!

I think the drops are screwy.. I got 2 pelts off of giant thicket rats after 6 kills.. wish I'd have the same luck with the thorn drakling scales =\
I have killed like 40 of these things in misty thicket they pop slowly and all over the newbie area so far Ive gotten 1 ruined thorn drake scale Ive gotten every other thing easily enough but not the dang Thorn drake scales of any kind is this happenin to anyone else?

I've been hunting them for around 5 hours now, killed around 15-20 and I've gotten 8 ruined scales and 2 normal scales, the Pristine is still eluding me

i have killed like 50 giant thicket rats and not 1 damn pelt. i need yer guys help with info where to get these because this is ****** ridiculas

I have a lvl 38 ranger on the Solusk Ro Server and wanted to try a halfling ranger on the FV server to try out 2 things at once. so i went on started out this new char got him to lvl 5 and got him some Thorn mail armor. but for some wierd reason i got the no drop armor and they seem to be non-no-drop and just Lore and nothing more. Does anyone notice this lil prob? or is it just on the FV server

On Firiona Vie, very few items are no-drop. Everything is tradable, and that includes these newbie armor quest rewards.
As a side note, the halfling ranger weapon is tradable even on normal servers. Like anyone cares :D

How do you presumably make the silk thread?

Silk thread is made by combining 2 spiderling webs in a tailors kit. (Time to start tailoring!).
