You say, 'Hail, Megosh Thistlethorn'

Megosh Thistlethorn says 'Greetings Connun! I am Megosh Thistlethorn first Ranger of the Storm Reapers of Rivervale. I journeyed many years ago to the Surefall Glade far to the west of our lovely shire. It was there I trained with the human and half-elven rangers that like the Storm Reapers are faithful disciples of Karana. I have returned now to Rivervale to teach our interested young people the ways of a ranger of the Storm Lord, so that we may defend our shire and the wilds of Norrath from the [evil forces] that would see it destroyed. '

You say, 'what evil forces'

Megosh Thistlethorn says 'Currently the Death Fist Clan of Orcs, a race of bloodthirsty humanoids concerned only with expanding their territory and slaughtering all who stand in their path, threatens our homeland. The Orcs have long had a minor presence in the Misty Thicket but lately they have been amassing in greater numbers. The Death Fist has been chopping down our trees and quarrying rock from the nearby mountains. We know only that they have been shipping the materials to the commonlands and stockpiling it for what purpose we do not know. As rangers of the Storm Reapers it is our duty to [stop the desecration] of the thicket. '

You say, 'I will stop the desecration'

Megosh Thistlethorn says 'First you must outfit yourself for battle with the Death Fists. Seek Bipdo Hargin here in Rivervale and give him this letter. He will instruct you further on getting yourself outfitted for the tasks ahead. Once you have been outfitted in a suit of Thorn Mail Armor return to me and I will instruct you for your [next task]. '

Your Location is -222.35, -71.61, -21.81

Hand Bipdo the note Megosh gave you

Bipdo Hargin says 'Pleased to meet you Connun! You must be one of Megosh's new trainees. Megosh has asked me to help get you outfitted in a suit of armor to protect you from the vile weapons of Rivervales foes. I have assembled a kit for you that will allow you to construct the armor pieces once you have gathered the necessary components. The required components vary according to which piece of Thorn Mail armor you are planning on assembling. Do you wish to craft a [thorn mail coif], a [thorn mail bracer], [thorn mail gloves], [thorn mail boots], [thorn mail sleeves], [thorn mail leggings], or a [thorn mail tunic]. '

You say, 'I wish to craft thorn mail leggings'

Bipdo Hargin says 'To assemble Thorn Mail Leggings you will require three [silk thread], two thorn drakeling scales, and two giant fruit bat furs. Once you have the necessary components combine them in your Mail Assembly Kit with this Tattered Leggings Pattern. '

I am having the most trouble finding the Giant Fruit Bats. Anyone know where they tend to spawn?

Seems most of you haven't noticed if you humt one given type of mob they seem to fanish. but if you look around you'll notice another type seems to grow in numbers. Kill the bats and bees spawn kill bees and spiders spawn. Not certain on what ones what but maybe that helps.

Lvl Requirement?

I'm not sure about this, but it seemed strangely coincidental enough to warrant this post. I hunted the Thicket up and down, day and night, single-mindedly killing ONLY the mobs needed for this quest for nearly two full weeks. In that entire time I could not find the ribcage needed for the tunic, the G T rat pelts, nor the regular scales. After all that time I went up one lvl, because most of the mobs are green at 10, but low and behold! As soon as I hit lvl 11, I found all of those elusive pieces right away! Then I realized that the only people I have met online with full Thorn Mail suits are lvl 11 or higher. Could there be a level requirement on some of these drops? Has anyone completed the entire suit before hitting 11 (Without ninja looting, or being helped by a higher lvl friend)???

Before my ranger hit level 10 I managed to get giant thicket rat skull, 2 giant thicket rat pelts, tons of large & giant fruit bat furs, could giant fruit bat wings, one pristine thorn drake scale, 2 Ruined scales & one reg scale.. Went back to hunting after I hit 12.. no rib cage, no draklings to be found =(
Quest TOO slow
# Apr 13 2002 at 6:37 PM Rating: Decent
What a shame this series is. It is frustrating, to put it mildly. The rate of spawns for the critters and the drop of needed items...a joke! By the time you get all you need to make just ONE piece of armor, you will no doubt have moved on to another zone, due to being too high a lvl to gain anymore xp off killing...

agree completely, i made me a ranger and killed pretty much only the mobs i needed for these things and after vegging completely for over 24 hours, and gaining level 10, i went to bed with all but the tunic and leggings, For crying out loud, im thinkin of goin into runnyeye now and fishin for black alloy, its better, and im high enough now to hunt there =P

Ahh, just as a side note, the drop rates on the components needed for most of these items is ASTOUNDINGLY low.
And to make it even better/worse,the spawn rates on the Thorn Drakelings is most heinous. The other mobs spawn more often, but refer back to the ASTOUNDINGLY low drop rates.

Hehe, otherwise pretty straightforward.

So far its just paid to be out there earning your xp and keep checking track for the mobs you need, otherwise you're going to pull your hair out and go nuts 8)

And yes, almost all the components needed off the mobs are NO DROP. So leave your main at home:)

Good luck on all these HLF racial/class armors !

Actually, the Thorn drakeling scales are not NO DORP

But the "regular" ones seems the most rare, to the point I'm thinking about a broken drop =(

Oddly enough, I actually had a harder time getting the ruined. By the time I was done, I had 7 Normal, 5 Ruined, and 3 Pristine.

Haven't been to Rivervale since the ranger class patch. Halfling ranger is named Megosh? :p Same name as one of Willow's friends in his village. :D

Yeah, apparently Verant can use names from movies/books, but we can't. Go figure. 'Course, it just shows how unoriginal they are. Then again, I think my old DM named every single halfling town/village/city as Hairyglade, so...
