    This quest begins with Delival (in one of the buildings in the northwestern corner of the city).

    You say, 'Hail, Delival'

    Delival says 'Hello there. I do not suppose you have seen a little girl running around with a box of buttons? I sent [Shainai] over to Master Barkhem's place so I can finish these [uniforms] I am working on.'

    You say, 'Who is Shainai?'

    Delival says 'Shainai is my little girl. While I am [inactive] I would like to see her as much as possible so I brought her with me here. I am starting to worry that she may have gotten lost near the palace. If you see her and have the time to escort her back here I would be indebted to you, friend.'



    Shainai roams from her home to the palace, wanders around in the lower level until she reaches the arena, and then wanders home. If you hail her before she reaches the palace steps, you see:

    You say, 'Hail, Shainai'

    Shainai says, 'Hello, my name is Shainai and I am on a very important mission for my Daddy. He ran out of buttons for the officers' clothes so I have to get him more. I am an excellent helper.'

    She then continues on her way. When she reaches the palace steps, you see:

    Shainai stops skipping and looks around. She says, 'Uh oh.'

    At this point, if you hail her, you see:

    Shainai says 'Hi. I was getting some buttons for Daddy and I got a little lost. I know the way, I mean it...but if you wanted to follow me home to make sure I got there safe and all, you could.'

    You say, 'I will follow you home'

    Shainai says 'You will?!? Oh good, now I won't be so lonesome. Here hold my bag of buttons if you please, my arms are tired. Ready? Follow me now, I know the way.' Shainai pauses and looks around, 'Hrmmmm....'

    You receive "Shainai's Bag". She then meanders home, getting a little lost on the way. When you reach her home, you see the following unfold:

    Delival sees you come into the room but looks just past you, 'Shainai is that you?'

    Shainai says 'Ahhh, home at last.'

    Delival says 'Well thank heavens you're finally home, perhaps I should think twice before sending you out alone next time, little one. Thank you so much for bringing her back, my friend. Looks like she managed to talk you into carrying the buttons for her as well.'

    Give "Shainai's Bag" to Delival:

    Delival says 'Well I wish there was more I could do to repay you. Take this old compass and what change I can spare with my most sincere thanks. Now off to bed Shainai, you have had a busy day.'

    Your faction standing with Guardians of Shar Vahl has been adjusted by 7.
    You gain experience!!
    You receive 7 copper from Delival.

    You receive a compass, which can be sold to vendors for 1-2pp, and then see:.

    Shainai yawns deeply, 'Daddy I'm sleepy, could you come tuck me in?'

    Delival sighs and says, 'My hands are full right now hon.'

    Delival looks your way curiously and asks, 'I don't suppose you would want to tuck her in for me if I give you a blanket?'

    You say, 'I will tuck her in.'

    Delival says 'Thank you again, have been a great help. Here is her favorite blanket, just give it to her and she should be fine. G'night Shainai.'

    You receive "Shainai's Blanket". Give this to Shainai:

    Shainai settles comfortably in for a restful afternoon nap, 'Thank you for walking me home, it was ever so nice of you. Good night.'

    Total experience amounts to about 20% of Level 1.



    Alternative finish: If you don't wait for Shainai to reach home before handing in the bag to Delival, you see this (he may also aggro you at this point):

    Delival looks at what you have handed him as his face turns to rage. 'What is... this... this is the box I sent Shainai out with! Where is she? What have you done? You stole from my little girl! Maybe worse!

    Your faction standing with Guardians of Shar Vahl got worse. (-1)

    After giving Delival (version 2 with white fur; old Vah Shir models) Shainai's Bag (Shainai has to be in the room):

    Your faction standing with Guardians of Shar Vahl has been adjusted by 7.
    You gain experience!!
    You receive 7 copper from Delival.

    Additionally you can tuck Shainai from the floor into the bed by saying "I will tuck her in'" to Delival.
    You receive "Shainai's Blanket" which you give to Shainai who is lying on the floor.
    After the trade both Delival and Shainai despawn. No additional rewards for this.

    Its now impossible to kill Shainai in her bed as the does not respawn there.
    After a few minutes Delival does respawn and the quest can be done again.

    Only receiving 4pts on the faction hit instead of 7, but getting 8 copper.

    Not sure if it's because of faction, race, etc. Vah Shir Beastlord with CHA 111 (base Guardians of Shar Vahl faction at 1000pts and 1004pts).

    Doesn't matter if you talk to Delival first or not, can just get Shainai anytime after she gets the buttons at the palace. She immediately pops up outside the Palace (on the stair) once you say "I will follow you home" even if she was just at the Arena behind the palace.

    Edit: Upped CHA to 159 and still only 4pts to Guardians of Shar Vahl.

    I found her at the palace entrance stairs going upstairs. She then entered the palace and headed north
    and then went downstairs (west) to the room before the throne room. She then turned back to the stairs at east.
    I killed her at these stairs as no roaming guard was nearby atm. The faction hit is serious.

    Faction hit for killing her:

    If you wait until Shainai reaches home and give the buttons:

    If you were hasty and just hand them to Delival before Shanai arrives:

    If you're only interested in the robe your best bet is to hail Shainai as she approaches a secluded area and say "I will help you get home." She will depop and pop back right in front of you. She will now have her nightie in inventory so kill at will, make sure it's at a fairly secluded place and root her first if you don't want her running off and attracting attention.

    Upon spawning in her house, Shainai takes off, looking to deliver buttons (she wont give you the bag of buttons, nor return home yet).

    After walking about 3 minutes or so, Shainai depops after reaching point -18, -25.

    In 45 seconds, she repops and starts walking, looking to find her way back home (now you can get the buttons and help her to go home).

    Now she can be helped home by saying "I will help you get home".

    It will take her approximately 3 minutes to walk home from her depop/repop point.

    Once she arrives at home, she and dad have a few words, after which he depops, and she stands there waiting to be beaten down, stripped and robbed.

    She repops about 15-20 secs after killing her, and takes off walking again to repeat her cycle.

    Any tracker can locate her, kill her, and repeat the mission as she repops so fast, and her spawn point is known.

    Hope this makes life easier for all you twisted types out there, who are lookin fer a lil girl's nightie :)

    If you bring back the bag before Shainai completes her walk Delival will aggro on you and make a comment about you hurting her. It was a long time ago so I can't recall the exact comment though.

    Had this happen once when I was in a hurry and the little girl was still just outside the door.

    Delival was then attacked by the other Vah Shir in the area and killed.

    I haven't done this for awhile but I recall getting 2pp for the compass. You just have to know which merchant to sell to. There is one in the pottery shop(male NPC at the end).

    Just did this quest to verify by shopping around. The following NPCs offer 2p3g8s1c for the compass: Gherik Alarhun(pottery) Jhimis Khadwi(jeweler) Apprentice Katy(Smith) Ritra Icyclaw(Berserker Tomes) Mydi Darjik(Alchemy) Merchant Ahlam(General Supplies) Chialle(General Supp) and all the Shaman Spell merchants. Also both in Shadeweaver's Thickey offered same price.

    Quest bugged, but not broken

    It looks like the only way they figured out how to make this quest work, is to delete and respawn their NPC's each time a part of the quest is changed by the player.

    If you hail Shainai anywhere when she is still lost and get her button bag, she will despawn. Stay patient, sit down, work on sewing or something. A minute later, she will respawn in exactly the same place, but now she has a new mission, which is to get home.

    You can follow her, or just go to her house if you know where it is, and wait for her. Because of Delival's odd behavior, I'd recommend waiting outside.

    When she arrives, Delival will ask if it's her, and Shainai will announce herself. Follow her in, and you should see them both despawn. If Delival does NOT say something about, "Looks like she talked you into carrying her buttons" and despawn, DO NOT give him the bag or you will take that famous faction hit. You probably went in before her too early and messed him up. May as well delete the button bag and just try again.

    Be grateful they at least declawed Delival. It used to be, he'd attack you and kill you when you did it in the wrong sequence.

    When he respawns, THEN he is ready to receive the bag, and you can give it to him. Faction is rewarded for the button bag. You get a trumpet and warm fuzzies for tucking her in, but no additional reward that I know of.

    I did this little quest just to get the all/all robe for my iksar shaman. I'm a sucker for looks ..

    If you kill her before she gets lost she will just despawn. First she walks to the palace steps then poofs, then she appears inside the palace downstairs and starts walking toward the arena underground. Hail her here and she gives you a bag to hold for her then poofs. Then she re-appears just down the hall underground and starts walking up and out of the arena on her way home, just run and wait outside her house for her to show up. After she walks in her dad poofs and she will re-appear in the same spot, kill her now! Take her robe and walking stick and laugh a bit at your awesome power.

    Item lore on the robe is: You beat up a little girl for this.

    LOL that's not "doing the quest". :-) You waited for her to get away from any guards then killed her. That makes you a stalker and a murderer. LOL

    I just tried this one and ran ahead of Shainai. I waited for her to appear, but went in first. This seems to mess things up, as I then gave the buttons, but lost faction despite that Shainai was standing in her father's home. Bleech... :-(

    Nope...you have to wait for her father to depop then respawn. THEN give him the bag. You just gave him the bag before he depopped. I know it's very confusing at first. I did exactly the same thing,but he killed me(this was a long time ago).

    I was having a hard time with this quest. I messed it up the first time I tried it by giving Delval the buttons before Shainai had returned. This caused me to lose faction.

    I tried restarting the quest a few times, but could never find Shainai on the steps to the palace. So I returned to Delival's and kept entering and leaving his home until he stopped loooking past me and saying, "Shainai is that you?"

    After that I went and found Shainai IN the castle, not on the steps. I was able to complete the quest after Delival respawned (he despawned we Shainai and I returned to his home).

    I received the compass, but no money.

    Being a bard, I'd think I'd get the best price from my guild, BUT they would pay me 2pp 1gp and some...... :-(
    Went to the shaman/beastlord spell vendors, and as mentioned in another post Scribe Gefna will pay 2pp 3gp 1sp (CHA 85), but also Scribe Cholsa in shaman guildhall will pay this price.

    If you're looking for the best price for the compass, I went to Scribe Gefna in the Shaman guildhall and recieved 2pp, 2gp, 1sp with 75 cha. This is a great difference between the 1.5pp that most merchants will pay for it in Shar Vahl. Hope this helps!

    The way I do this quest is to hail her and let her find her own way home. I just go back to daddy's house and wait. She always shows up. And then, I guess daddy goes into the back room or something because he disappears. If you are worried about not being able to do this quest because of faction, don't worry. I did this quest with my barbarian beastlord no problem. He was indifferent at the time. Between doing this quest a couple times, fighting Loda Kai, doing the Ghulum's Armor quests, I am now amiable. You can then do the Hero Shroud quest.

    I have done it twice, both times after talking to her she disappears. Wait a bit and she will reappear and start heading out. When she gets home the father disappears as well. Wait till he reappears. Give it a few seconds then give him the buttons. The first time i got 6gp and the compass the second time i got 3pp and the compass. I was level 4 at the time and up to this point the most money i had made was about 2 gold as i was working on the begining beastlord quest. So the money was great and it allowed me to buy much needed packs.

    This quest is messed up. I went to Delival said that I would find Shainai like it states above. Then I searched for Shainai and found her in one of the hallways in the palace. She was faced at a wall and repeatedly running into that wall and then re-spawning. I stood there and watched this for a solid 10 minutes to see if she could begin to go in the right direction. She never did! I tried talking to her. She answered but just kept running into the wall. If I attack her to get her to move will that affect my standing with the palace guards or any factions?
    This quest is tricky, but still good.

    The girl seems to teleport after hailing her, but if you do the quest right one time, you can do it multiple times and get lots of compasses.

    Also, I have noticed a bug that Shainai enters the house and starts talking to Daddy, but Daddy isn't there! If you wait about 90 seconds, he pops up and you can finish the quest. As a side note, why does Shainai sleep on the floor?

    My rogue saw Shainai tonight near the rogue guild so I said I'd follow her home. (Never done this quest before, just skimmed over it in the past). Well she disappeared (didnt' realize this is normal) so I went over and handed Daddy the bag (before she got home). Well he accused me of stealing from his little girl, didn't attack though. Faction message said my faction with Guardians of Shar Vahl got BETTER, yet now I con apprehensive instead of indifferent.

    Still happens. I remember doing this quest with my beastlord back in the days when it wasn't screwed up, so tried again tonight and she just vanished... in the old days she'd just turn and walk back. Anyway, I thought maybe I should give the buttons to her father anyway, and lost faction as a result.

    Shame they don't fix this quest properly, because it was a way for a total newby to get a decent amount of money and XP (and a useful compass if you didn't sell it) back when it wasn't so buggy.

    watched someone kill her off. I found her staff, then tried to give it to her father, but he gave it back saying he didn't need it. All I found left on her was the staff, so maybe he goes nuts if you give him the nightie?

    Well, I have tryed this quest 11 times now, and have died all 11 times, but have made it back to the area in time to watch him get killed by the sick kats in the room accross from his house. And every time I got exp from his death as long as I was present when he died. So atleast getting killed by him did not make me loose exp permanently. I gained back the same if not a bit more than I lost each time.

    unfortunately i beleive they changed it with the new skellie models, but as a side note about telling direction. you used to be able to summon a skellie pet if you where of the appropriate class (necro or sk) and tell them to sit. when they sit down, you would notice that they would shift a bit, and if you checked your headings against the direction of their torso, you would find out they always spin to face true north! it was the greatest thing i ever came across, then a few months later luclin came out and my great new undead compass was bugged. 8( he no longer did his little shift to show me the way anymore, but oh well, with the new built in compass feature and some practice with sense heading you dont really need and other compasses or the east to west sky patterns or even the tried and true method of dropping your old faithful wpn to see where its blade gets magnetically pulled to.

    btw, one more little helpful hint. - make a hot key for sense heading, put it in one of your primary hotkey slots, then go into your options screen, hit the keyboard tab and hunt down the spot were they have the key strokes listed for the hot keys, most should be just a number (these numbers are for the 10 hot key boxes, working from the top left box to the rigth then down each row going in the same pattern. e.g.-

    3 4
    5 6
    7 8
    9 10

    figure out which one goes to your sense heading hot key and change it from its number to any 2 of your arrow keys, if you uses your side arrows to maneuver around or strafe alot, i would suggest right and left, other wise do up and down. now when you press those arrow keys they will auto trigger your sense heading as you run around, which will cause a bit of dark blue spam on your screen, but will also max out your sense heading rather quick. hope this helps some of you, laters. 8)

    I did this quest three times with a level 2 kitty Bard on 07/15/2002. Right after the girl gets home and her father notices her (there is some text that appears at that point), he disappears and reappears about 20-30 seconds later, just like the girl does when she gives you that bag with buttons. The first two times I waited for the father to reappear, gave him the buttons and received the reward. The third time I gave him the buttons right after he reappeared and he yelled at me for bringing him his girl's buttons without the girl even though she was standing 4 feet away from him. At least he didn't attack me and still conned warmly.

    I assume that after he reappears it takes him a few seconds to notice that the girl is back, so I guess the safe thing to do is to wait a few seconds before giving him the bag.

    As far as the quest's overall assessment goes, on the plus side, the money can't be beat at that level. On the minus side, the quest gives so much XP that my Bard is already approaching level 3 and doesn't have a single point of Defense or Offense to his name. 1HS at 2. That, however, seems to be a general problem with newbie characters ever since the patch that made leveling sub-10 characters easier.

    I just did the little quest lastnight. I was heading back to my guild (Rogue) when she was right outside the doors of the guild. I did the quest once already with my first Vah Shir (Skila Shaman) I only recieved the compass and 1 gold, 3 silver, and 9 copper. But the compass sells for 1-2pp and I have no use for it seeing I practice Sense Heading right off the bat. But while doing this quest with my Rogue I tell her I'll follow her home but run ahead and wait outside her door. She always just vanshies when I tell her that so there is no hope for me to find her before she reaches home. But lastnight Delival gave me 2plat, 1 gold, and 5 silver. Along with the compass that sells for 1-2pp. For a rogue thats not bad at lvl 10 thats the most I'll ever earn in one sitting so far. Wish the outcome was the same for Skila as it was for Likla. Well just mentioning this because above it says "I've had between a few coppers to 1pp." It is possable for more. But I think that if you go looking to do the quest you'll get much less. ^_^ Just my 2cp. Oh and if you just make Sense Heading into a hot key and assign it to number (1) its handy in battle. Seeing that most people place Kick, Taunt, etc around there. Just an easy way to get it up and actually know what you're doing.
