Well .. here the facts to the orefinder.
He is the universal grimmling in the zone. He can have almost anything with him, any acrylia, blood, toes, weapons, pages, words, etc ...
Sayin ore ... he HAS from time to time ore with him, but dont expect to get a smithing expert with him! he has approx 5-10 % of time ore with him. So he can be an aim, but talking about the caves I might say, you dont have the chance to choose ... you have to fight anyway through the whole pack.

These guys also drop luclinite (looks like marble), which sells for 80pp, and umbracite (looks like hematite or black pearls), which sells for 114pp.

Does anyone know what these Runes are used for? Can't find info on them anywhere...

They drop many assorted items that are stackable and worth a few silver to 14pp a piece, they also drop weapons sometimes, including the Sturdy Grimling Mining Pick, 14/29 pierce +3 to two resists.,.,., pretty good for a Rogue's BS if you don't have a higher dmg weapon already

Well the Sturdy Grimling Mining Pick is a 12/29 which is still good for a piercing weapon, not 14/29 as posted.
