What is the agro range of these guys? I would like to take my enchanter to DSP at Level 34 ( he is 32 now) to solo and the wolves hate him. Where is there most frequent pathing?
Aggro range is fairly high and they roam most of the zone other than the areas close to the Seru entrance, the shroom house, the ME entrance, and the GE entrance. However, they're 'threatening' rather than 'scowling', so often if you see one and run straight away they won't aggro.
Just a word of warning, avoid the camps if you're running from these. I was fighting one and got an add, so I clicked jboots and ran. While chuckling to myself at the irony of wolves not having sow, I bolted past a camp of NPCs and they lynch mobbed me. I thought they were kos but when I went back, the worst was indifferent. Some of them actually LIKED me, so I assume they were just Holly Windstalker 2.0. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go kill every low to mid level ranger NPC I can just to watch them bleed.
Yeah, some idiot trained an entire camp on me last night: idiot got killed, wolf aggroed on me, and the NPCs that used to be dubious suddenly became KoS. Squished me in a few seconds flat.
do the wolves in luclin have any form of faction? or is it a case of what you are is what you are? as in do killing wolves even if you are amiable to them cause you to eventually become kos to them?
i am amiable to most wolves right now -- indifferent to most of the others, kos to only a select few
I was looking through the bestiary for DSP and I was about to make this same post. I noticed that to all of the wolves I conned, I am also amiable to them. I'm also a Wood Elf, so maybe they just dig Woodchips...maybe our Wood Elf parts don't taste good to them....

This mob is so not an undercon let me begin to explain, most people claim these are undercons why? Well they hit hard and fast and have decent amount of hp... As the mage stated they have around 250-300hp*5 so it is somewhere between 1250hp-1500hp they double hit from anywhere from 20-90dmg and they are slower then sow by about 30%. Now ok at lvl 29 i can solo these with my twinkie necro. I just Dooming Darkness it, if resisted i send in pet to take dmg for a second. Then i will fear then retry my snare for some reason i have noticed when a mob is feared things stik ALOT better. I drop on Dooming Darkness a 300dmg 60% slow dot and Heart Flutter another 200dmg with ac debuff and stuff along with boil blood which is a 504dmg dot. Of course this does cause mad aggro if fear breaks so after dottage i med and wait for fear to break when it does i refear then Use shock of poison which is a 160dmg DD. By now the wolf is at around 4 bubs of hp still this next phase only causes me to cast shock of poison another 5 times and it flops over i gain 2 1/2 blue and i walk away smiling how dumb people are.... Now on to the real undercon in this zone lol. Justkidding but anyways i have hadmore trouble killing LARGE ZELLS then WOLFS lol its funny they resist snare about 40% of the time fear about 35% of the time and shock of poison 2-3times a fight lol. Fear only lasts not even 10 seconds and i am constantly running around refearing and trying to DD these mofos into hell. Sierously though Large Zelniaks are ALOT harder to me at 29 then a wolf at 29... plus exp is better off of wolfs lol. Anywho i hunted the wolfs with my lvl 45 warrior a bunch of times actually i hunted wolfs with him from 38-41 i used chloroplast and just beat the **** out of wolfs NEVER got one damn earing though i dinged 3 lvls with these damn things and now i am doing it again for exp, i have only gotten tattered wolf pelts.... oh well....
As a 35 mage I nuked it 4 times, each nuke between 350 and 370, it was almost dead and when I looked at my earth pets health it had 1 left. Well the earth pet died, I blasted the wolf again and it died. No loot but I lived and I learned another valuable lesson to always monitor the pets health even when there are no mobs in the area (earth pets can take a lot of damage but they aren't invincible).
To be honest, Earth pets are not a great choice for soloing up to level 50: fire is generally much better unless you really need the root to keep mobs off you or stop them from running.
The Earth pet has more hit points than Fire (typically about 2x I think), but takes a lot more damage: as a result they don't last much longer but take forever to regenerate between fights. To make it worse, they Root running mobs, so they often get hit for 100% of the fight, not just the 80% until the mob runs.
The Fire pet regenerates faster since it has fewer hit points, and avoids damage much better. It also has an uber damage shield (around 30 points per hit at level 34) so every time it gets hit the mob takes a big chunk of damage.
At 35, though, you get the best of both worlds: the Monster Summoning I pet has as many hit points as the Earth pet, has damage avoidance similar to the Water pet, and often (about 1 in 10 if you keep resummoning) casts the damage shield of the Fire pet. The MS1 pet could handle a yellow-con wolf at 35 with a couple of nukes from me.
Lvl is 1 lvl off, was hunting in DSP, got a wolf conning blue to 33. Blood Wolves drop earring more commonly than these (Theyre still not "Common" just drop more often). Loot for earring is 1 in 100 wolves, and twilight junk is 1 in 50.
Is there a reason why 'a wolf' on Norrath is like lvl 3-5, while, 'a wolf' on Luclin is 33-40? Survival of the strongest or what? I must say, it's pretty hard to survive as a lil doggy in Dawnshroud, I mean with all the killer Shadowknight Shrooms about, and those centepeids from hell aka 'Lightcrawlers'. But, then again I don't feel sorry for them! I've been killed and nearly killed on many an occasion by them. Heh, I remember the first time I came to Dawnshroud, I saw a wolf and walked by carelessly not conning it, thinking it to con green to me and be below lvl 6, thus not KoSing me. BUT I WAS WRONG! Anyway to make a long story short I also ran into one of those Bloodstarved Wolf trap thingys! But luckily I escaped them via the Neth Lair ent. Whew! It was a purty close call, since then I have sneaked and hide while strolling through DSP. Anyhow, these doggies are mean and will bite, and watch out for the Bloodstarved ones!
Ravenguard Mathios McKorpsemaker Rogue of the 33rd season Soldier of 'Aegis of Unity' ***~TORVO~***
ive killed a ton of these... they drop stackable pelt uncommon called tattered wolf pelt or something
Heres the good part.... they drop the jewels for the SoL armor quests, so far ive gotten moon, sun, sky, and meteor off them... drop rate is about 1 out of 25-30 kills... not sure exactly
