Charmable

Yes they are charmable, lvl 60 druid charmed with Call, lasted long. Got an add of another wolf while killing a wyrm and outran it with soe, then gated with 300hp left

CoV critters are mammal placeholders. Eventuallly everything in the zone goes to reptile if cragwyrms, drakes, and wyverns arent thinned out. A guide suggested I do a feedback report, to separate the spawns between mammals and CoV critters. Perhaps if a lot of us did, the zone would be huntable allthe time.

Ok, call me names or whatever if you must, but what is a "feedback report"?
RE: Feedback
# Jan 17 2003 at 11:42 AM Rating: Default
Type /feedback in game... Let's you tell them what you think, but will prolly be ignored unless 100's of others do the same
Placeholder?
# May 20 2002 at 8:24 AM Rating: Default
Anybody figure out their placeholder yet? There has to be one considering how plentiful they used to be before the 8th Shawl Quest...
RE: Placeholder?
# May 29 2002 at 6:21 PM Rating: Default
Key phrase there is "before the 8th Shawl Quest...", obviously Verant nerfed their spawn to make 8th shawl harder, 8th shawl is not ridiculously hard and right now the hardest part besides the end of the quest in IC is the Velium Hound Furs, wouldn't be too hard at all for anyone with semi decent tailoring to get all those Soft Fur Paddings if they could just gather 30 hound furs and make attempts
RE: Placeholder?
# Jul 21 2002 at 10:22 PM Rating: Default
The reason for this is that the spawns are mixed with the CoV critters. If you hunt nothing but hounds, eventually they won't spawn until you thin down the wurms and the like (which sucks).

No nerf, just a natural effect. Nobody use to hunt them much so they seemed plentiful, now... uph.

Another reason for rarity...

If they were as common as they used to be, you could farm the furs to get your tailoring to 176 (trivial for the padding) pretty easily. Just 1pp for the silver thread each combine. To make sure that this isn't just used as an easy way to raise tailoring (because there are SO MANY different things someone can do with high tailoring :b), the hounds were made rarer.
where are they?

Been looking for the puppies for two hours, checking track constantly and roaming about the zone, tried near ToV and DN zones, but got nothing, is there something i have to kill to pop these critters?

I fear kite these puppies all the time for uber exp, never had any problems snaring , resist fear a odd time, but thats what cholo is for, u just need to find a safe spot to do your kiting, and after about 10 kills, i had about 100 pp also, bonus, hehe

> I fear kite these puppies all the time for uber
> exp,

i'm a 54 ranger atm, and it's the first time i came to WW and tried to fear kite here. in about 2 hours, i've killed 5 brontos, 1 mastodont and 2 hounds for about 1 and a half blue of xp. I was quite disapointed about the xp each puppy gave me (one fifth of a blue bub or may be a wee bit more), Thought it would be much better by reading your post. Will try again tomorrow

> i had about 100 pp also, bonus, hehe

The 2 i killed both dropped 6pp both times today. For once we can fear kite and get some minor loot :)

That post was made before PoP... back then, at level 54, 6 mobs for a blue and a half WAS uber exp... Still really isn't that bad..

I out ran one a few weeks ago. Came out of nowhere. I turned and ran. 56 Druid. Don't recall if I was in wolf form, but I don't think I was.

illusion/ wolf form
# Oct 08 2001 at 8:26 AM Rating: Decent

Is it "safe" for using wolf form or any illusion in Western Wastes? Am friend to dragons, but did not want to test this.

Has anyone had any experiance here?

Wolf Form does not KoS you here. I walk around and still have the same old CoV faction to the dragons and critters...

Im my experience hunting in CS. When I was indifferent to CoV mobs, I was still KOS in Wolf form. Once My faction with CoV improved up to like Kindly, I became Dubious in wolf form. So Wolf form lowers your faction quite a bit, but is not insta-KOS.

They outrunned my sow (lvl 55) and Gladly I had Spirit of Cheetah memmed, and then bye bye Wolfie :)
By the way I'd like to know if they are soloables for a lvl 55 shammy, harder hit I took was 149 so I guess it's possible, just to know if they are slowables thank you :)

PS: J and Tboots are "only" 35% faster than normal movement, sow is 55% at lvl 50+, so take care you're not safe with your boots, giants and some high mobs will easily hit you while you'll try to escape them just a bit faster (just buy our potions to feel safer ;) )
RE: Fast
# Oct 25 2001 at 2:25 PM Rating: Default
I was killed by one of these today. I thought there were two of them because I successfully landed root and snare, moved and it still attacked me and I died. After witnessing this a second time, didn't die that time, I petitioned. A guide told me it was normal for these things to be able to move at FULL speed, faster than even SoW, while rooted AND snared. My advice is always have gate up, it has saved me a few times so far. If you don't have gate, melees, then get a /loc before LOADING, PLEASE WAIT.....

How the heck can something move when it's rooted?????

I've never in my 57 levels of playing a druid, who uses root all the time, heard of such a thing.

Inconceivable!

Have been killed a couple of times by these on the way to ToV. Their aggro radius is huge and multiple dogs will frenzy if you get anywhere near them while one is after you. If you got SoW or JBoots then you'll still most likely die. My advice is to get a /loc ;)

wierd fact number 325....

while waiting for harla "broken down luvins no turning up bugged mob" dar, i have learned many things about this zone.

one these things scowl at me 99.99999% of the time....however

every few days i'll find this one velium hound thats indifferent and i can walk up to hail and play catch with i even took screenies of it..im certain its a placeholder or sumthin but god knows its exactly the same in name as the normal hounds and they all try to kick my *** (btw using canyong edges and vectoring i.e running with both the forward and leftor right arrows held down together so you run at an angle while keeping you going straight with mouse directions has saved me from these guys heaps try to use the canyons and remember you can always duck into dragon necropolis if the **** really hits the fan), but this one doesnt....

im at a loss to figure this out i am an ogur warrior and i have skeletal illusino and a guise of the deciever i use but it doesnt effect the con in ogur / skeleton /inky form i am kos to all in ogur/skeleton/inky form i am not kos to this one single soitary dog...go figure.

p.s harla dar is broken yell at gms or sumthing so i can get my leet everluvin haste cloak )>>)

Kept up almost pace for pace with lvl 57 sow. The only way for me to escape was to get to zone. Snare has been resisted everytime, (I have yet to land a snare on Hounds or Drakes). They hit HARD.

I am ally to CoV, however I scowl to hounds, drakes the lvl 62 ice wurms (forget name atm). Can easily outrun with form of howler though ;)
RE: hounds
# May 01 2003 at 9:50 AM Rating: Default
Try using Glamore of Tunare to lower resistance before attempting snare, better chance of landing snare this way if resistances are lowered.
RE: hounds
# Nov 13 2001 at 11:22 PM Rating: Decent
A 59 druid was able to land a snare first time. Perhaps the recent adjustments to Magic resists have made them snareable.
RE: hounds
# Jul 06 2002 at 6:29 PM Rating: Decent
I am a 51 Ranger, and I was able to snare these after 2 or 3 attempts. Not very easy until Luclin and the Tangling Weeds spell. This has a very fast cast time and acts like snare, but with a much shorter duration. I attempt casting tangling weeds while it is chasing me, and when one finally lands, I have more opportunity to cast snare.

Of course, they hit so hard that even with Animal Panic up, I was beaten down so fast I had to run for the SG zone! Maybe when I grow up, I'll try it again. :)
RE: hounds

did you have form of the howler on when you con'd those mobs? Maybe if you didn't have it on they wouldn't scowl.

No summons. breaks Root at a modorate pace but takes Snare easy enough. Fear works wonders. If you have DC, Grab a Rhino and go to town on the puppies.

I had one of these bastages beating on me why I was trying to get to the dragon necropolis. I found it was easy to escape by running toward the DN area and running off the cliff. They can't follow you in time and you will escape with ease.

These puppies CAN yes CAN outrun j boots. I don't know about a high level sow. I found this out while I was running for my life doing a CR. They do not see through invis like most of the lower single named dragons, but do have a knack for seeing ya soon as it drops :)
