Bulthar and loot?
# Jul 27 2010 at 7:11 AM Rating: Decent
I can easily solo these bulthars. I'm a lvl 51 necro, and using my pet as tank. When pulling from a fully spawned group, i root the adds, and pull my mob to a save distance to loose the aggro from the adds.

These Ulthorks drop various gems that sell for roughly 25 pp at a merchant.

Happy hunting!!

Got a non-stackable meat, walrus meat, off one today. Nothing listed in quests for it, or on any other site. Anyone have a clue what it is for?

Also, got a druid spell, Circle of Wakening Lands from one, later the same day. So, he has new drops not listed above. Have also gotten quest gems from him, mainly flawed ones, a few imperfect ones, and normal gems as well. Plus the standard vendor trash, rings, research pages / runes, etc.

Quad the Bulthar
# Oct 26 2002 at 2:35 AM Rating: Decent
I just turned 55 and i am quading these guys. They give me 1 percent of xp per quad. I have 255 wis with some mana gear and KEI and i have no problem quading them. **Caution** one or two of the mobs usually resist my lighting blast so watch out and make sure you have KEI. KEI make it possiable for me to quad these guys. The only reason i quad these guys is because everyone is quading the Wyverns in this zone. These guys is ok xp if you don't want to change zones.
# Jun 22 2002 at 7:24 PM Rating: Good
As lvl 55 wiz with KEI I quadkited 3 of them today for the first time. Used pillar of lighting. Gave me almost a third blue. They have low resist, are quite aggresive, but when collected and snared its np. Without KEI I would have been doomed. I got 245 int with KEI and about 700 extra manapool. But yes, they have a load of hp /. Took me about ten minutes, but was nixe xp.

It is the same quest item. Turn in two Bulthar Trunks from normal Bulthar to the Chief. Gives xp, a minor item (I got a pearl ring) and faction for Othmir / against Bulthar.

Bulthars seem to drop these non-stackable "Bulthar Hide" sometimes, does anyone know what they are for? infos would be appreciated. thanks

# Apr 11 2003 at 9:18 AM Rating: Decent
The BUlthar Hide is for the 7th Coldain Shawl Quest. Combine in Fletching Kit with an Ulthork Tusk and a No Drop Swordfish tooth from SG and you get a burin (i think it's called) to etch the rune for the shawl. It's trivial at 194. Hope this helps.

I'm a 51 wiz. I ported in to find one of these waiting at the portal. Someone must have trained him there, and he appeared to already have been snared. He aggroed on me. I had full mana (2674), kited and burned the full bar of mana using Draught of Fire (648hp a pop for 215 mana). I could only bring the sucker down to 40 health before running out of mana and fleeing to Skyshrine.
# Apr 02 2002 at 6:08 PM Rating: Excellent
These things are so easy its crazy. Any Druid that can root and snare can sit at there camp and own them.

They do have high hitpoints but with Winged Death and Drones of Doom (and epic if you have it) they die quickly.

Fire based spells dont work well on them so I wouldnt advice stacking Breath of Ro.

They drop a TONs of Gems. I have gotten 100s of quest gems from them over the weeks I lived at this camp. Very few people know of these creatures for some reason, so the camp is usually open, unless im on your server! LOL.

not very good xp for time

I'm a 54 necro and I had very poor luck with these at 52. I can take them down without a problem at 54 (with jboots or SOW or course) once I get them broken (which can be tricky). But I was not impressed overall as others here have stated.

I usuall pull with splurt or Bond of Death (depending if I'm low on health or not) and then run towards the sandy area and put enstill down. They resist enstill sometimes, but not often. Because I always try to prevent my pet from doing more than 1/2 the damage (so he doesn't steal half of the experience), I usually root/DOT until they are at about a half and then fear kite with pet. So after I enstill I drop cascading darkness (which is only resisted about 5% of the time or so), ignite blood, splurt if I haven't already and BoD if I'm at least 500 HPs below max. They have a descent PR and DR so I don't bother with any of those DOTs and it doesn't seem worth it to spend the 200 manna on debuffing them. Besides, I med up while he's taking damage.

Usually, enstill wears of 1st and I pet and fear. Next cascading darkness drops and I usually hit them with dooming darkness to save manna and casting time. These guys reverse direction every time they are hit so I haven't had any run out of casting range when feared with no snare. Also, I redo splurt once it wears off and try to let the 2nd splurt and ignite blood run it's course before allowing my pet to finish them off (to make sure that I get full xp).

But alas, cascading darkness, ignite blood, Bond of Deatha dn 2x Splurt takes them to about 45% or so. That's about 5500 damage which means that they have around 10k HPs. I got a coral cresent and a chipped onyx saphire out of about 24 kills or so (herdleader never poped). based on the amount of time it took for each kill and the xp/loot I got, I would say there are better things to hunt.
RE: not very good xp for time
# Aug 29 2002 at 2:05 PM Rating: Excellent
About your pet taking half the xp, they won't take any xp if you hit the mob once. There was a patch (not too sure when) that fixed the xp/pet xp problem. As long as you hit it once your pet can do as much damage as you want him to and you will get all the xp.

Yeah, they aren't good targets for a soloing necromancer because of the amount of HP these things have.

But for all the bards out there, DON'T give up! I quaded these 4 at a time, takes around 20 minutes. Just charm one, sent it back to attack its herd, recharm until its down to 5 percent health, then dot it to death. Repeat until the last one is done. if you distribute the damage well, it should take you about 3 minutes to charm it down to a point where you can DOT, takes 2 minutes to dot it depending on how close to death it is. after level 54 when the wyverns goes mostly Light blue, these are the best kiting mob for a bard in my opinion. =) Don't forget to refresh your selo, and the exp can be unbelivable. Good luck. =)

ME and 2 others a druid and a warriro killed those for hours and heardleaeder too.

We had a lvl 51 chanter 51 druid and 51 warriror.

Startegy : Bulthars druid starts the show with snare , Chanter engage with tash and get hit 1 time then his pet aggro /ofcourse with dagger in the hand delay 20 and double hits for 52 and with swift)

Then chanter cast fear and then the fun is beginning hehe druid maybe thhrow a single nuke/dot and warrior just melee and chanter just keep the mob feared. 1 min later bulthar is dead.

For the heard leader did the same just without snare (wont stick) But that was a tough fight but really fun.

As a 58 druid you should be able to quad them. Same priciple as any other mobs and offcourse have kei up. True manapool is not big enough to take them straight away but the last 20-40pct can be done by run/med/nuke. At lvl 56 and with MC2 i can already do them this way and your manapool should be bigger. They are nice aa up to 1.5 blue. Excellent alternative if wyverns are overc(r)amped.

Happy hunting....

OK these guys dont hit that hard and are slow but have huge huge amount of hp< me being a 50 mage and another 52 mage tried to kill one of these took about 8 mins or so with 6 earth pets..chain casting and took him out and they have a small agro range but very agresive(sp) if your a mage dont dd it just chain pets on it and you will have np killing it this is surely a mob to use tanks healers with otherwise just waste mana. just my 2 cp's
Bulthar are pretty sucky
# May 28 2001 at 1:28 PM Rating: Default
I'm a 59 ranger and I have been fighting these as I have heard they drop Velious gems. So far, I'm not impressed with the gem drops. I would say they have around 10k hp. They can be slowed, and they don't hit very hard, so they seem designed for tanking. You may be able to single pull them at 57+ (I haven't tried) but if the Bulthar Herdleader is up you will want to harmony him because he will definitely agro. All in all these do not look like great mobs to fight, and I will stop fighting them if I don't become enchanted with their drops soon.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 01 2001 at 4:05 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Actually I gague them at closer to 10,000 hit points. My best guess is that the one that you root/dotted had already been damaged by the druid.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 15 2001 at 6:51 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) dude what are u talking about? u DON'T recommend root/dot because of too many hp? what are u gonna do? run around using those oh-so mana-inefficient nukes (compared to dots)? sorry, ur just confusing me. dot's do more damage for less mana than nukes.

First as an fyi, the Othmirs do not seem to agro on Bulthars any longer, so training them to Othmir camps will no longer save the unlucky.

Saw a ranger in trouble today, had gotten two. Managed to get one rooted, and soloed that while he dealt with his original pull.

Keeping it rooted, I used the following spells: 2 casting of Cascading Darkness (just to be safe for when root wore off). Two Ebolts, 2 Splurts, and a BoD (bond of death). Everything (even 2nd darkness) wore off but the last Splurt (which was nearing done). So roughly...1.2k per Ebolt, 1.3k per Splurt, 720 for BoD, and roughly a K (give or take) per Darkness. Roughly 7.7k...so a good guess is near 8k HPs...or at least be prepared to do 8k if you're going to fight them. (rough estimates for dot dmg)

I think the rest of the posts have the HP's on these guys a little low, I would put it closer to 9-10K. Using Elder Spiritist Vambraces (clickable 450 point DoT), I can take out of these down pretty easy using root and then the free DoT. Takes a good 15 minutes to kill one using this method, but if you harmony pull them and have the patients to wait out your DoT's it's pretty easy to run them into the groud.
Supposedly the result of handing in two bulthar trunks to the Othmir Chief got you a pretty nice spear, however, when I did the quest I got a whopping black pearl. Needless to say I wont waste my time again.

# Mar 05 2002 at 2:44 PM Rating: Default
Funny when druids say something is an 'easy kill' then go on to say they use bracer dot and root and takes 15min to kill, heh. 15 min is a long *** hard kill for most classes....
RE: Quest Rots
# Apr 25 2004 at 10:03 AM Rating: Decent
It only took him 15 min because he was going the cheap mana route; free dot.

At 60 I can take these out in 5 minutes, if I'm trying to save mana.
RE: Quest Rots
# Mar 30 2001 at 7:48 PM Rating: Decent
If you based their HP on using root and ES arm damage, then you are incorrect. Drones of Doom (effect on arms) is a 340 dmg DoT. That's assuming they aren't moving toward you and thus reducing dmg taken. If it's rooted the whole time, the dmg *may* be a little higher, as the long ago dot change may not show in the spdat file. But it certainly isn't doing much more than 340.

Given that, I'd save the other estimates of around 7-8 k are more inline.

BTW, I do have a retired 55 druid.

They have about 6-8 k of hits

I am trying to figure a way to solo thses. But there is not real place to run. I Can take one down if I have plently of running room and have time to med in between nukes. I can take out a Frost Gaint Elite in the GD that has about 8k of hits too. I may have to wait until I get to 49 so I get a 700 hp DOT.

Frost Giant Elites in Great Divide only have about 4500-5000hp. I know this for a fact. I have soloed hundreds of them (lvl 51 necro now). I cast 1 Cascading Darkness, Dooming when Cascading ends, 2 EBolts, Bond of Death, and fear away about 2-3 times. Pet takes care of the rest (1 fight lasts slightly over 2 minutes). So do not compare these things to Elites in GD if these really have 8-9k hp, thats like killing 2 Elites, just so u know.
RE: Hps
# May 29 2001 at 1:08 AM Rating: Default
OMG you are way off buddy. I have solo'd hundreds of Frost Giant Elites in GD, and they have WAY more than 4500 to 5000 hps. Just look at the damage that the dots do that you are using, and you will see that I'm right. If you use Cascading Darkness (900), 2 EBolts (2200 total), Bond of Death (800), you are already at almost 4000 hitpoints. My pets have done 400+ damage in a single round (using the rogue pet), and the 49 pet (which I assume you are using) can do as much as 300 in one round. So, it would take your pet about 12 seconds to do another 500 damage, and double that to do 1000.

I think you are thinking about Frost Giant Berserkers, which have a lot fewer HPs. Frost Giant Elites have at LEAST 9 or 10k. I can do these in about 3 mins, but you are really underestimating the total hitpoints. GADS, give your pet some credit, it is doing a lot more damage than you realize, I think.

Bulthars are about the same. Probably about 9 or 10k hitpoints.
