I was doing the rounds on the hill last night with my Vah Shir BST trying to loot some more of the semi-precious stones that the gnolls there drop. Having just leveled to 25 on Crag Spiders about 5 minutes before, everything on the hill was green. Except one. I see this Dark Blue Named just standing at the very top of the hill next to the stone. Hmm..Dark Blue = XP, Named usually means good loot....why not?
I honestly didn't see his pet until after I'd pulled him with Drowsy.
Here comes Splintered Claw (DB), "Splintered Claws' Pet" (DB) and some darn green gnoll who wanted to help out.
I had time to land a "Tainted Breath" on Splinter and then sent in my kitty. Splinter and the greenie went for my pet, his pet went for me, and the fight was on! I started to cast my cold DD on Splintered when I realised I was DOTted and running across the zone! I'd been feared and still had SOW on! Long story short, I got control again and returned to melee Claw down alongside my pet. His skellie pet did some major damage on me while I concentrated on Claw and stayed up after he dropped, but eventually went down as well. As for the greenie? He turned and ran 3 seconds later but I chased him down and showed him I was not amused!
Splintered dropped a "Gold Ring" (vendor loot), nothing on the pet, and some coin on the greenie.
Soloed him with 20th level druid last night. It wasn't too hard. I had a charmed griffawn, which drew the attention of Splintered Claw, his pet, and 2 other gnolls, while I snared and repeatedly cast on him. Eventually he turned towards me, casted engulfing darkness and some other spells, but I managed to survive and take him down. Looted a topaz and rune of Al'Kabor, along with some change. Waited for engulfing darkness to fade, re-cast sow and was on my way with 2 bubs of health.
I was hunting with a guildie near reaver hill.. down near the water med'ing and waiting on Uinan (LD again lol)... He spawned right above me..popped in track as yellow.. then a few minutes later he summoned a pet which con'd white (black for those who don't have track lol).. I didn't even stick around to try or look.

This guy is not underconned in any way. He is a necro and a necro is the master of soloing. This is the reason why many classes soloing this guy gets into trouble. The groups should have no problem, if they do it right. The only thing that is important to remember is that he fears and darkness, just like an enchanter charms and fears. Be ready to take a hit from those 2 spells and you will be ready to take him down.
This guy (with help from four other undead reavers) took out my group of a level 22 rogue equipped with a Luclin and a necro spell procing dagger of some sort, my level 18 warrior duel wielding 26 delay frozen long swords, and a 19 druid twinked beyond belief. He feared us all then beat our sense of pride all to hell with other spells, I would say he is an undercon for sure
I was passing through and say this guy... thing... whatever. He was blue to my 23 Paladin so I thought I would give it a shot.
It must have been the darkness, because I didn't see his pet. BEWARE if you solo. It didn't take long before I was overwhelmed. I had the Splintered Claw, his pet, and 2 undead gnoll reavers on me before I swung my 2hander more than 5 times.
I managed to kill the Splintered Claw and was within a tenth of the pet's health bar before the pet and the reavers took me down. I used my Lay On Hands too, so as you can see, the damage being done to me was rapid and severe. Too bad I wasn't around to see what he dropped.
I learned an important lesson that I will pass on to you melee types. A 2 hander puts you at a definite disadvantage. Use a shield and bash to interrupt the spells. I was feared and helpless several times. If I hadn't been, it would have been a much shorter fight with me on the upside.
-------------------------------- PS [July 27, 2001] Revenge is sweet. I came back the other day as a level 26 Paladin and smacked him around for old time's sake. This time I caught him without his pet and without any other reavers around.
As mentioned in my previous post (above) I decided on a 1hand slash (ghoulbane) and a shield and only lost a little over 1 bubble of health.
I stumbled across this guy when my 22 warrior was exploring the Karanas. Was running from an Evil Eye and saw this guy and conned on my way past. (Out of agro distance) He conned Blue so I figured I'd zone and come back. I was on a dual wield kick and I had 2 pretty fast weapons. When I came back to him I attacked. Someone else must've been through there because all the other posts mention other gnolls but I didn't see any. Anyway, he got off 1 dot but I intterupted everything else with either the dual wield or kick. Anyway, I went a little below half HP but kicked his a$$. I NOW know how tough casters can be, but this guy went down fairly easy for me soloing him. SO I would suggest just getting bound in the pass and giving him a try, just remember if you're going to die, to start walking away from where he spawns so you can get you're corpse w/o agro him again.
Ran into him tonight. He is bugged somehow, kept saying "can't access filename.txt" can't remember what the file was, but he said it about 5-6 times before he dropped.
Use enchanter, cleric, warrior all around 18 or so. Echanter use quickness on warrior and warrior use fast 1hs weapons Less than 28 delay. Cleric keep heal and cure spells up. enchanter have cancel magic in case someone is feared. Just have cleric and enchanter buff tank, step back quite a ways and send in warrior. warrior should be able to keep the caster interruped and pet should be easy to deal with. should only hit for 15 or so on occassion, 40 at most and with cleric around, that's easy to deal with. If you kill the necro and his don't want to deal with the pet, just have enchanter cast memb blur on it. POOF!. it's gone. no exp, but one less to fight. Never done this NPC before, but I have fought necros before and if you can keep them interrupted you will take only a few hits from pet. If you can't keep them interrupted. The DoT will get you fast. At lvl 20, I died in befallen to an acolyte because I only had 4 bubbles of health and the DoT got me after I clear the entire room. The run from the arena was even worse. Always remember where you are bound. hehe
like any necro of his level he has engulfing darkness. This spell is lethal he wasted me a 22 pladian without a problem. He feared me then hit me with darkness. he had a few other gnolls come by it was bad. this guy is real strong
Be careful if you don't have a full group. We had a lvl 19 Shaman, lvl 18 Cleric and a lvl 16 Ranger and he routed us easily. Cast Fear 2, then Boil Blood on each of us. Took 60% of our hp in one spell. If we hadn't all had SoW, and he hadn't cast on each of us one after another at least 2 of us would've died. As it was we were all forced to zone. This guy is a serious miscon, and you shouldn't even think of going after him unless you have a full party that can hit him hard and often enough to keep him from casting on you. Remember that you also have to deal with the other gnolls in the area too as well as his pet.
