If anyone else has a problem finding these I'm fairly sure they share spawn with the Lava Basilisks. I couldn't find any so I started killing different critters one type at a time. The crawlers started spawning after I killed a few Basilisks.
The Druid's line of damage spells against summoned creatures no longer work against lava crawlers; apparently they're no longer considered summoned creatures.
These things kick A$$, ilove em, they took me from lowly 14 to 17 in about 6 hours. Sheild of thorns, thorn coat, snare,(run backwards) expulse summoned, rain of cold, meele. At lvl 14 i could take down 2 yellows like this before i had to sit down! (and no, i'm not tweeked just a combine skim and a lockjaw hide tunic)
these arnt too hard for a necro. i used to solo these with my 14 necro and my pet. even the 17 reds werent too bad. pull with engulfing and then fear and reverse kite it while dot and pet are whacking it up. a couple of mend bones, step in myself if necessary, a lifedraw or two and hwalla! a dead critter.
I don't know.... Never seemed too hard to me. I EASILY killed the lvl 17 ones with my lvl 14 halfling druid. It does take all the mana but lots of exp. All you have to do is snare, run backwards, cast expulse, run back, expulse, etc. and after about 4 or 5 expulses it's long dead.
This thing is a summoned caster. You tanks aren't made to fight these things, Magicians and Druids are. Yes it is easy to agro it off of my pet with damage spells, but at lvl 13 my Magician can solo them with no problem. The ones that are lvl 16 and 17 I stay away from because they are more likely to resist, but with a water pet, rain of blades, and ward summoned the lvl 15 and lower ones are a breeze.
Everyone is saying "Eeek, this thing kicked my butt." What exactly does it do? Does it have a fire shield and cast an AE breathe fire while chomping you for 20pts per hit? Or does it just ***** smack you around? I'd like to know a bit more about what to prepare for before I jump in and get my butt whipped. :)
The problem that I found with the crawlers is that as a lvl 15 druid, at best, it takes a full bar of mana to kill blue crawlers (casting Snare/Expulse Undead). However, most of the time, it takes a full bar of mana and then some, meaning I have to sit and med while the thing charges me or retreats, etc. I'm almost to level 16 and I hope the little extra mana will do the trick. But, for now, I try to avoid these guys as they are a pain, both in mana usage, melee, and med time. Also note: You must have a magical weapon to hit these things! I found out the hard way.
just go in and find out yourself. this thing is not taunted easy by necro pets either for some reason. thats the biggest reason i have die by it. i dont remember what it hits for but if you cant cast a spell off because your pet wont bug him enough it doesnt really matter. just pull him to the zone and hope you can win. its not like you'll lose alot of exp anyways. and if you die stick with the drakes or the rock dervs, the dervs can take you all the way up to 19 easy. just look around for them. i leave my pet at the ent to nek or najena and go searching. then i cast engulfing darkness and run for the border. i either kill it or zone. no biggie
They for an average of 20-30 and for me a 16th lv druid they just aren't worth the fight, takes way to much mana and the loot sucks. Its also hard to get spells off while meleeing them because it attacks very fast and seems to have numerous attacks.
Started hunting these as a 16 SK on TZ recently. Clinging Darkness from distance, pull back, Siphon Strength. Hit, Hit, LifeSpike, repeat. Beat me down to 2 bubbles when things went kind of bad, 1 when things were very bad. Typically drops 1-2 bloodstones that sell for 4-6gp a piece, charisma depending. Resist Fire is a HUGE help here, as with most critters in LavaStorm. When things went "OK" I was only down to half health. Never used Harm Touch -- have to save it for those f&*$!ing imps.
I was in lava for the first time a few days ago. i saw a snake it /con blut to me i started to fight it.....i used lay of hands.....and then one with about 2 bubs they r extremly tough. i had been buffed to hell and back and had around 800 hps and was using a runic carver. My guy is sporting almost all bronze witht he exeption of dark mesh guantlets and a deathmountina belt my sugestion for melees get a friend hehehhe don't fight alone
Wow! I conned one that was blue to my 15 Paladin. I was grouped with a 15 Druid. It took me down to 1/2 bub, then I had to LoH. Then took me down to 2 bub. Hits EXTREMELY hard with the AE spell. Be very careful!
These guys are summoned! /em smiles Druids have a field day here! I watched a Troll SK get hammered asked me for help and he couldn't believe how quickly I took these guys down. May Exp Summoned does 89dmg at Lvl 15. Snare, DoT, Blast.....easy life
Well it would depend on your friend's level and such, but probably the most common reason these things kill is because people don't know you need a magical weapon to hit them
Although they are a snake like creature, they are summoned. Thus, Mages and Druids can best used the Ward Summon line of spells against them.
Also, I have seen them drop up to 3 bloodstone at a time. This makes them good hunting at mid levels if you need to resupply your bloodstones for spells.
