In reply to Snowbanx, the gaining of aggro can easily be controlled...I have a 16/22 (with 78 damage proc) in prim and a 18,27 in sec, or I can put 14/10 in main and I never get aggro off our MT. Whether it is an easy mob where no assist is called, or a tough mob where MT builds aggro, I have NEVER once gained aggro from him. The only damage I take is from AoE
This weapon is very nice and will not cause the monk to gain aggro if controlled properly

BAH he got 397 ARFGh i got mad. but he is my friend so i am happy for him.
Just to quell the heated debate that I have seen regarding this weapon. I got this wep at lvl 47, (was with an uber party) and we took down the Va'Dyn. well, I won the roll and got the skybreaker. Waddya know? I could equip it! at 47, every stat was -1 except hp and mana which were -2. this has slowly gotten better and better (am 49 now) as I approach 51, doesnt proc yet thou. even as a 12/19 wep, this sucker still crushes most other weps avail at my lvl.

Posted:Apr 02 2003 at 12:18 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) huh? you can't take the va'dyn with a single party of 50s, i don't care how good, and why the heck would a bunch of 60s want a 47 ranger?
One very good group of 60 and under could probably take him. I just got mine tonight, had 10 people and we pulled the ******* with 6 adds, two of which were the 100kish hp mobs that are spawned by the traps (the others were easy kills). 3 clerics, 2 warriors, paladin, monk, enchanter, rog, and druid average level 60 something, and we slaughtered them. Just be sure to deal with adds first. All three clerics were over 80% mana when the Va`Dyn died (mine got the killshot). I would imagine that a 57-60 group with a warrior, two clerics, a slower, and two high DPS classes (rog and monk or something of the sort) could take him if they managed the pull well. He only hits for 500s with the occasional rampage, and I've tanked stuff substantially worse on my 58 war. The 300k hitpoints is a nuissance, but with two clerics with some crack taking turns CHing, they shouldnt have much in the way of mana problems.

Hey I like this! This would be the Hammer of lightning I have been looking for ;)!Now if I could just get a Hammer of Thunder I would be able to live up to my sirname . As far as who should get it, what's the arguement about? If your guild makes decisions about who needs it based on who would be most effective with it fine. Otherwise it's anyone who can use it and has the need for an upgrade(if this would be an upgrade to them) gets a roll. If some monk tells me it's his and I don't get a roll I will tell him exactly where he can go.
sorry but yes...monks are masters of 1 hb,saying they are not shows your poor knowledge of the game....monks are masters of toe to toe damage, making them best of all with 1 hb (like rogues with piercing)
it is true, in a sense, monks are the 'masters' of 1hb cuz their skill caps at 2 points higher than other melees. however, the only reason they are beaten only by rogues (if BS opportunities) is not because of the extra 6 or so atk they get from the higher skill, it is because they are on a higher damage table than the other melees. as a not, this weapon is good for any classes that can use, but the most monks, rangers, warriors, although bards, bsts, and rogues COULD value from it as well, so any class who can use as an upgrade should get a chance.
You are both idiots, technically they are the best but come on, thats by two skill points. 2 points ain't going to make a huge difference in damage. As for toe to toe, who cares what you can do toe to toe. You should be hitting from behind so you don't suck the clerics mana from reposits/procs. Lightning Surge? if you are a monk and win it, stay the hell out of exp groups. Get your healer partner and go someplace else, cause you're going to ***** up aggro. Clerics should only have to heal the chanter and the tank, not additional group members. This is especially important if you are with a boxed cleric.
Using low delay 1hb weps I take aggro from 60 warriors frequently and my weps don't even proc.
Any monk that has the ability to attain this weapon should have learned how to FD off aggro so your argument is a little weak. Maybe you've just been grouping with monks that don't know how to play their class?
Some items with "reccomended levels" CAN be equipped by a level 1 but with reduced mods, be it the raito, stats or procs I am NOT sure. Some items with "reccomended Levels" CANNOT be equipped until said level. Not all items are created equal.
I realise this is an old post, but i'll clear it up anyway.
Recomended level: Can be equipped as low as level one, but with detriment to both damage and stats.
Required level: Cannot be equipped until said level.
Edit: one more thing, Proc lvl is independant of recomended level. In other words, some weapons will proc before the recomended level is reached. ie Sword of the Bloodsword, Nightmarewood Compound Bow, both procced for my warrior at 52 or so.

Posted:Feb 17 2002 at 3:32 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The recommended level on the item says 51. That means if you are below 51 you can't equip it. I assume the proc works at 51 when you can equip it, under that the point is moot.
Sony started implementing Recommended Level gear when they revamped Cazic Thule. Those items were actually REQUIRED level, but it said Recommended. At the time there was no gear that existed in the current "Recommended" format (ie you can equip earlier for lower stats)
Then they started introducing the new wave of Recommended items, and realized it was confusing. They went back and modified most of the old Recommendeds to Required... but not all. Some of the Cazic Thule stuff still says Recommended when it's actually Required. They're fixing them bit by bit, and to date, pretty sure they've got almost all of em fixed.
Um, no. You CAN equip items that are recommended for certain lvls before you are that lvl. However the stats aren't at their fullest and in this case I seriously doubt that it will proc before the recommended lvl. But I also seriously doubt that it won't proc for you once you reach that "recommended lvl".

Posted:Mar 21 2002 at 6:19 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ROFLMAO. The only items I have dealt with that had recommended leves are Wild Lords Gaunts and all the new mage focus items. In ALL cases it was possible to equip the items without having the level, but the effects were nullified. Stats are as is and not effected by level. This weapon will equip as a 13/19 weap with all those stats but no proc til you reach the recommended level of.... 51??? (I can't see the original answer)
Um, no. You were right about being able to equip it prior to recommended lvl of 51 and about it not procing before 51, but no..the stats will not be the same UNTIL you reach the recommended lvl. Yes it will have stats, but they won't be at their full potential until "said recommended lvl", which I can only imagine goes for dmg/dly as well.
No you can not equip ANY item that says on the item description (Recommended level --). Period. End of story. Ba bye. Go read some recent patch messages.
Gee, guess I'll just have to unequip my Level 21 Warrior's Venomous Axe of the Velium Brood (Recomended level 35)...He'll be so disappointed. Don't just read the patches, try it.
Ok...all of you saying you can't equip it unless 51 go read Absors post about 'Recomended Level' in the Developers corner, and you'll see what it means.
In very few cases it means that this item can not be equipped at all unless you are that level. More commonly it means the stats will be less for you when you are below that lvl, and the farther you are away from it the worse they will be. And in other cases it just means that this weapon won't proc for you until you reach the recomended level.
WooT~ finally an intelligent person stopped their stupid debate~ go Cabasak! =p hehehe and if j00 still dont get it~i dunno what 2 say except thatcha might be ummm... lets just leave it at that~ =)

I didn't lotto on it, he drops better stuff for Bards.
Anyway, his stats:
Incredible AC--don't count on the melees to deal much damage. Roughly 300-500k hp, ten minute fight with 24 people. Quads for 700, flurries often. Not very resistant to magic/cold/fire; somewhat resistant to poison/disease, I think, not sure.
Got jumped by him near the zone in. He doubled for 525. He only hit me around 10 times before I dropped, but never once did I see anywhere near quadding for 700.

I have fought in Akheva several times and, much to my dismay, have never seen this drop. Would anyone with the info on which mob drops this please post. Not only excellent ratio but nice saves as well AND it can go in either melee? I'll be hunting Akheva more often to find one of these for my Warrior.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spell cast on you: Lightning surges through your body. Spell cast on someone: Soandso has been struck by lightning.
This is a nice well deserved item for the melee classes. For us shaman types, we've had nearly as good since Velious came out (piercing of course, rather than 1hb). Anyway, who could complain about a rune etched icewurm fang for the shaman types: 12/18 with 80dd proc and 5 or 6 wis (old age setting in)
