I bought this shield in the Bazaar on BristleBane.. for 250pp. The AC is Good enough for me.. and the mana is a plus.. There wasn't another shield with 25+ AC that nite for less than 500pp... and I need the Mana for Chain-Stunning to maintain Aggro. I only completed my Ghoulbane Quest last Week, so I needed to get my Weak ONE-Hander Skill up to snuff! At lvl 29 I routinely bashed for 18dmg and the Undead fall pretty damn fast to the ghoulbane with Nife cast on it... My only Gripe with the shield is the graphics... looks like a turtle shell....:-( otherwise, I'll use it to my mid 40's and hand it down to an ALT.

ok correct me if I'm wrong but pally haste makes any weapon he uses magical, thus making the shield hit magicskinned buggers post-luclin, just a thought

Every time people see a crappy item (in their opinion) they flame Verant. Allright, some items are really not good, and some lvl 50+ mobs drop total junk. BUT, why couldnt a poor and ill equipped mob that is lvl 50+ exist? I mean, a dragon could well drop a FS weapon if its all it has. Geeze, quit complaining. EQ is a role playing game, MEANING that when you see such an item, just flame the mage that obviously created it. That shield probably suits one of them Siren of one of their puppet Pally or SK. THIS IS ROLEPLAY. Of course there are programmers behind the game, but its called a ROLEPLAYING GAME, you agreed by clickin ok to play that ROLEPLAYING GAME, therefore, leave verant alone, they created items for a purpose and if you dont know why, it does not matter, the item is there, PERIOD. You dont like it? No one forced you to camp it/use it. Grow up. The mob carrying it has 26 more AC and 65 more mana while using it. I guess it makes him a bit harder to kill in this case. Who cares what you think about it as long as the mob gets benefit from it? Once hes dead, well, its not his problem anymore. Bah. Whiners.

More whining in that post than any others I have read recently...
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 21 2001 at 4:00 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Whats wrong with Verant? They make a nice shield, but no one who could possibly get it would need it and on top of that they make it non-magical. *sigh*

Is their really a 'best' weapon/shield for the differant classes? Not really. Maybe several qualify as 'the best' plural as in a group of them that are the high end, but no one shield will fit all your needs against the differant mobs, so to claim one is the 'best' is ignoring the fact you have differant requirements against differant enemies. Myself i want the rainbow shield, because my guild seems to enjoy having me tank whenever a.) a warrior is absent and b.) it's a caster mob, so thats the clear choice for me even though you said it was #2... point being whats best for one person isn't whats best for all.
# Jun 18 2001 at 12:03 PM Rating: Default
nice AC yes , but thats all , i wouldnt give more then 1k for it . u CANT bash with it then its not magic , its useless for a Paladin or Shadowknight who is still using 1HB-HS weapons.
SG is a 50ยด+ Zone with Mobs with Tons of HP and then came some crap item out , Thanx verant
Hit Points
# Jun 18 2001 at 6:48 AM Rating: Default
Yeah but if every piece of armor you wore had +50 ht. pts. on it...would that save your does it go "gift horse in the mouth"....besides with an extra 65 mana I could cast lifetap seven times for an extra a 35 hit pt. gain...I gotta git it...*wink*
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 16 2001 at 9:39 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) +50 hp, wooopty ****. I know for an item +50 is a lot, but think about it, the extra +50 hp will probably never save your life if your in a situation where you are close to death... I'm sick of all these supposed uber items that have stat buffs with miniscule effects that one can't really notice (but they trick themselves into believe, yah, wow, +50 hp i'm really uhm, dying less now, sure...)

hmm and oddly enough.. the amount on the shield is 65, not 50.. and it's not even hp.. you feeling ok?
but along this topic.. +50 alone never saved anyone? hmm ok what about if every slot of yours had +50 hp in it? :)
the great thing about +hp items is you're not limited to just one, I can't count the number of times I've feigned with under 20 hp.. *shrug* ah well

I believe he was referring to the Clay Guardian Shield comment in the post directly below this one.

50 hp doesn't sound like a lot. But that 50 extra hp can save your life. pallies and sk don;t have as many hp as wars to begin with. So 50 is a larger percentage of their total. Gives the cleric a milisecond more timeto get that cheal off if needed. Just wish every enchanters had +50 hp for every slot.(yes i realize this item has mana not hp)
not to pricey
# Jun 16 2001 at 10:54 AM Rating: Default
i wouldnt expect this sheild to be to expensive, compaired to a clay guardian sheild (4-5k) on bertoxx, thats 25ac 50hp. This sheild is 26ac 65mana, not a huge change and most peeps want HP over mana...
....Not magic?
# Jun 15 2001 at 7:51 PM Rating: Good
Too bad it ain't a magic shield.. Lottsa stuff needs magic stuff to be hit..
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 16 2001 at 12:14 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) God I'm glad you pointed that out. I was thinking, woah..this has got to be one of the best Paladin shields around...but w/o being able to bash with it, makes it just useless enough to not use it (IMO).

sorry, but the best paladin shield is the shield of the stalwart seas like 35 ac +20 str +20wis
and unlimited charges of ultravision! The best thing is, is that it is erudite pally only, so i am the only one that can use it! I plan on camping the GBS and then trading it for my UBER shield!

No, the best pally shield is the Whitestone Shield, 39ac 15agi 100hp, and next best is the Shield of Rainbow Hues, 18ac 20 to all resists.

What about the Lodizal Shell Shield? I'm not a Pali. My main's a 54 Shaman; but, most tanks I've talked to (esp Hybrids) want Lodizal SO bad, but I think everyone wants that friggin thing, I know I do ^_^

The Lodizal Shell Shield can be worn as a back item, if I'm not mistaken, making it one of the highest ac, and therefore best, melee back items.

Paladins have a couple of 50+ ac shields from ToV. This shield sucks. Plain and simple. Not even good to give to a low level really, as it takes away the bash ability against the majority of mobs, and the 50hp on CGS is much more effective. I wouldn't pay more than 500pp for it, ever, and I personally wouldn't pay that as CGSs go for less than that on my server.
