This is my first post, and much like my first ignore list candidate, was spawned by aggravation. I came to this page to get some insight on a CLASS SPECIFIC armor piece to judge the worth of doing this quest. What I read is a bunch of crap about who can beat up who and who's class sucks. First, get a life. Second, post something that will help somebody. Third, before you bash someone walk a mile in their'll be a mile away and have their boots.

ok From the spell listing, viewed by clicking the Invigorate hyperlink, this spell casting time is 3. That seems pretty uber.. I mean for 71-100 hp Heal, one could do quite well solo after getting such an item. So in retrospect, this would be very handy, and for 100 hps every 3-4 seconds, better than a Fungi tunic. As a Whole 50 AC is better than 42 from Thurg quest. which is why I am going to align myself as closely as possible with Skyshrine,.... at lesat until i am finished using the faction for my own personal benefit >:)

Blood Lord's BP is good... yet not much better than Thurgadin...

Only 3 pieces that are interesting on Blood Lords are helm, arms and leggings... the rest is easy to out perform...

I use a Dark Runed BP (thurg) and have no will/need to get SS... would much rather have legs or helm, already have Arms...

Here is the basic layout of the Dark Runed...

42 AC
6str 6sta 6dex 6agi 14int 70HP 30mana 7sv magic 3 sv disease

although Thurgadin stuff is alot more rare than Skyshrine... just my info...

oh and to the warrior that said he outdamaged the monk, I highly doubt it.. you just had more HP/AC... it is possible for a warrior to outdamage a monk, but first off not with h2h no way... monks can be pretty ******... but i doubt you really out damaged him

Real world? OK let's let that part go...

Hmmmm if the slasses were "balanced" with all the skills/abilities, and they take one away from SK in PvP...perhaps during duels no classes can use dual wield? Or which bardsong do we get to eliminate? That would rebalance a little, wouldn't it?

And ummm it always takes skill to win, unless you were using the Bard exploit with NPC's aiding each other (which is now fixed, I believe). Only a good SK could kite well and use SS to stay out of the way of opponents with more HP.

I have to agree with pewterskier. When I PvP with chanter, bard, etc, they can stun or mezz me. Fear kiting is the SK/necro way to fight.

Sure, if you twink your character with resist gears and a regen BP, you can cream the casters. With uber weapons, you can outdamage the melee and LT them to death. Now, how much skill do you need with a low level character that is twinked to the teeth?

DO I hear a weakling's cry? We "RP" our characters very well, just calculate the language skills to modern English. The rest is all prety much the same, either we fight out of greed, hate, or fear. PvP is for those of us who can handle dealing with more difficult situations that plain old boring PvE...I mean how many times is a monster gonna know when to HT ya or 2H bash ya in the midle of a joust? PvP is for those of us who have Brauns AND brains.

SK's WERE the best in PvP
# Jul 24 2002 at 3:37 PM Rating: Default
My 54 Shadow Knight was truly a person to be reckoned with until today. She could easily whoop most melee classes hands down even 4 and 5 levels here superior, even those with epics and she without. Equipment does make a difference though, I have a harder time with people with high saves of course (it's to be expected). Fear kiting as most necro's and SK's know is an unbelievably efficient way to win a duel. Even without though I can usually take mose melee opponents my level with little trouble and I wear only Guardian armor. Many of my opponents wear Thurgadin and Sky Shrine quest armor. Never underestimate a Shadow Knight...NEVER!

BUT alas today is the last day for many SK's and Necro's in PvP situations, Fear no longer works against other player characters. Why? I have no clue, but it is SOE/VI's will, so it comes to be.

I'll still duel ya tho. Come see me.

Well this is amusing to read. What can I say but welcome to real world all blue servers.
Fear and charm are ancient history on PvP servers and and for a reason. It just sux in PvP. True PvP have both persons using all their skill and avareness in the fight, not just both peeps desperatly hitting fear hoping that this time it will stick. Granted this will change PvP on the blue servers alot, but now it takes a skilled SK to win, a skilled necro to win, a skilled chanter to win etc. Before anyone who had the skill to mem fear could win.
Wake up and smell the cofee :)

Yes, doesn't mean alot. I do play on blue severs and have only dueled on blue servers but i seldomly got a fear off on an opponent anyhow so i havn't used that in a very long time .. i perfer to use tactices that involve my surrounding area and levi for example, maybe throw out a quick diesease dot or whatever. but fear and snare never worked to well for me, my new snare which is diseased based ,i have yet to try out, but again, i perfer to use skill than a bunch of spells that anyone could use to take down a warrior ... after all, for me its being sneaky and clever that makes dueling fun, not spells and uber gear :) ... Duels are meant to be fun, and not to quel anothers insecurity issues by winning each time using cheeze tacticts and gear ... win or lose, if i had fun doing it chances are i will want a rematch and another and another till its time to find a new opponent :)

But you dont need fear to win a duel...any SK or Necro that thinks they must have Fear to win doesnt understand their class completely. I have dueled 30 times on my SK..lost once to another SK that was 11 lvls just gotta learn the other classes to some degree to comprehend what they can and cannot do..then look for a way to exploit their weakness...just like every other class Everyone can win a duel, Just some know the chinks in yer armor better then others

for all you whiners out there that constantly complain about Sk's this and sk's that,, stay the F%#K outta our armour lists then! geesh, as for the one post about the SoP and an ave of 80 dam a hit i agree with you,, i also use the sword of pain, with fbss a 154 str, and i ave about 65-70 a hit, and as to the moron Argonic,, well i think its quite clear you sir do NOT play an Sk or a necro, otherwise you would know that theres not many other classes out there that can take us in PvP,, or even just dueling,, but as to performance wise we're one of the most simple classesto understand,, EVERYTHING we do causes damage to the creature we are attacking, from debuffs, dotts, just plain beating on it, lifetaps, pets, we do all damge granted we aint worth a sh*t for Pwrlvling someone but who cares! and Btw,, the armour is cool! Thank God there are other SKs out there that think the same way i do, We are always getting the shaft cause we arnet a Warr..well I for one as a 51 SK can out damage some warriors, and my gear isnt even all that great with SCHW and a Sword of Pain i do on an avarge of 80 dam a hit EVERY TIME! We get no credit Brothers.... /sigh

An average of 80 a hit? Are you SURE about that? An AVERAGE? Perhaps you should re-check your math, because with Shard of Night & even 255 STR I think I have a hard time AVERAGING 80 a hit, but perhaps the MOBs Im facing in SEB/Velks/Kael, etc have a higher AC then what you are fighting, but Im not certain. At the end of the day, 80 average per hit sounds awfully high for a 51 SK wielding Sword of Pain.

all i can say is,, bring any warr on or monk or rouge and i'll hand you back yer buttocks hacked into pieces. while warrs take better dam than we do ( more hp) i am on par and even do more dam at times then warrs. im currently lvl 49 De Sk wearing mostly Jarcrap armour and using an arbitors sword,, while most classes poke at mobs repeatedly,, i smack em for on an ave of 100 dam a hit, if i can ever get my hands on a CoF or equivelant haste item theres not many warrs out there who can outdam a SK, sides if in doubt HT there *** and see,, (mines curently at 681 dam i belive)

OK im a 55 Sk on RN server and let me tell you SK's are about the hardest damn class to kill. We get AC in like with warriors and we get the ability to rune our selfs combine these two together and its a COMBINATION of meele and DoT's and tap and we can suck an enemy dry. Wanna see some thing funney put a 55 sk DE in full sentient and watch him turn any monk in to a raisin.
What would be better...?

I have a question regarding what faction to go with for Velious. I'm level 21 almost 22 at the moment, but I want to think ahead. Would it be a good idea to go with Kael faction and ***** the other 2 factions all to hell, or should I just go to PoG and loot Noctivigant armor? Would appreciate the help, thanks =)
# Feb 13 2002 at 1:19 PM Rating: Decent
Sk's are gods. at lower lvls Sk's are like about any other hybred. by the time you can get this armor you are a god. SK's can out taunt any melee class. not with the "taunt" button but with their line of AC, attack, and Str d-buffs.
with snares, d-buffs, taps, and their various self buffs like grim aura mana/hp proc taps SK's are very Offensive. at with this BP its a lot easier to Solo. and yes many SK's still solo at higher lvls. the best thing about this bp is the heal part. SK's dont have a ton of mana and life taps are spendy. anything that saves mana is a Plus
RE: offensive
# Mar 02 2002 at 11:51 PM Rating: Decent
Though I'd like to say its true, I cannot honestly say I view myself as an offensive class. Rogues, monks, and rangers can out-damage me; warriors can keep up with if not exceed my melee damage output too... the role of an SK is as secondary tank (or secondary assist depending on your server). Like you said, the shadowknight can build aggro better than any melee. SKs also have ac comperable to (and sometimes exceeding that of) warriors. I am frequently the main tank (or main assist, again, depending on your server) in Sebilis and I am my guild's unofficially official ST, being the highest and by far best equipped SK. I can tank black reavers in CoM, tanked naggy when MT died (when I was 51), etc. This is not something a ranger/rogue/monk can do. At 53, I have 1027ac unbuffed and w/o my ac taps, which add about 30ac and stack with all spells. SKs are arguably the best MTs against non-uber mobs because, as I said, they have similar or better ac to warriors and can aggro better; on uber-mobs, there is no contest though, defensive (discipline) is an overwhelming factor, reducing the damage taken by about 80% from what I hear/observe.

I currently wear primarily blood ember (both wrists, arms, feet, hands) and umbral (legs, helm) with a barbed ringmail, sarnak battle shield (when I'm not using strenth of grodan), and many other high-ac items. For the complete list, click on my name hehe.

This armor is clearly better than anything I'm wearing, and better than thurg quest armor (I'd take blood ember over most pieces of thurg armor, the boots and BP are the only pieces with ac as good as or better than BE) and about comperable to kael armor. If you compare complete sets of both, malevolent (kael armor) has 16ac more than than blood lord's (skyshrine armor) but blood lords has more hp, more mana, more stats, and more resists (for the complete breakdown, go to: ). Personally, I'd say both are great, don't pick a guild based on kael vs. SS armor. NToV does, however, have better drops aside from quest armors.
RE: offensive
# Jul 19 2002 at 3:41 PM Rating: Decent
Aye my 54 sk has ac comparable to same level warriors. With dots and debuffs i can get guaranteed aggro on mezzed mobs when i break mez and i can out taunt pretty much any other class. I've been MA for all but thos pesky uber mobs on several raids and what I lack in defense skill caps and disciplines (compared to warriors) i more than make up for it with guaranteed zero pingponging. Only way to get a mob off a caster faster than an sk is to charm it =P

sorry but an SK solos almost exactly like a necromancers except that we can melee and in that fact i was saying that NECROMANCERS ARE the most powerful soloers. and sorry but we beat wizzies out in soloing. so they can quad kite.. so can a druid but it wastes most of their mana... also have you ever watched a wizzy or druid quad..? sorry but they die too often to be considered secondbest soloers. not druids they are tied with us at 2 but wizzies are 4th best. you sire are the idiot and YES we do rule pvp only class we have a prob with is bards
RE: offensive
# Jun 14 2003 at 2:48 AM Rating: Decent
i dont think you have seen many wizzies quad 8) or just not verry skilled ones, spent all of 49-55 in CS quading with my wizzy late hours of the night when none were on. each quad took roughly 20% of my mana, which took all of about one and a half minutes to regen with c3/self buffs. at 54 i could kill every wyvern in cs, save the ones in the tower and the named, before they started respawning. dont know exact number but would like to see an sk clear out the wyverns before respawn at lvl 54 8) heck i havent seen a necro that could do it either, saw alot of them solo there and they could do about half of the wyverns, not saying they dont rule tho not many wizzy can take on even con mobs at lvls 50+ but in mass quick kills they dont do so well, and druids having single target snare and weaker AoE spells take longer for each quad. my wizzy was my first char too so he wasnt twinked out either. it took a while for me to learn it, but once i got run speed 3 i think i have died a total of 2 times quading, and 1 was stupidity of another char pulling mobs off me, the other i forgot to lev before i pulled the tower and went splat ;P at 58 now i dont play my wizzy much but i still quad and do so in dulak, and if you've been there it is hell to quad in dont think ive ever even seen anyone else try it 8)

they do pretty well in soloing too!
chant/swarm kite with NO downtime at all,
and the exp u got per hour is unbelievable!

i would vote for BARDs as the 2nd best soloist (pve),
with NECROs keep their hands on number 1 IMO

Well, that seemed an extreme reaction so I had to say something.....

First, I noticed that you didn't post your char info. Second, while I would not have thought of SK as being as powerful as the poster listed, HE is the one with multiple powerful characters --- ON a red server --- and I have friends with multiple 50+ chars on redservers who claim that in PvP the nasiest oppenents are either SK or Necros.

So I suggest that unless you play multiple high level chars on PvP servers (or have spoken with those who do) you temper your reaction a it. SK just may be one of the most powerful classes in PvP. I can't say that from personal experience, but that position has been expressed to me before...and by chars much higher in level than mine.

All Skyshrine quest armor pieces (not the stones) are found in Temple of Veeshan Hall(s?) of Testing according to the quest information posted on this site. (There's a link to "Velious" quest armor under the quests category.)

The Hall of Testing is through a door on your right a little ways into ToV. I believe this to be correct and hope it helps.

Just the viewpoint of a 44 soon to be 45 SK... First off i'd love to argue that shadow knights are offensive... I like to view myself as such, after all i am quit capable of and usually do fill the role of both puller and main tank in alot of the groups I'm in... but the fact remains.. that although extremely versatile in our role, sk's are offensive BUT, in comparison to the other mellee classes (with exeption of the paladin) our offensive pales... if u ask me if I'm an offensive player or a defensive... offensive.. definately offensive... but that comes more from attitude and role playing then from actual statistics.. an SK can fulfill the role of both offensive and defensive characters but when it comes down to it (IN COMPARISON) we are more defensive ... I used to have dreams about being this big badass.. which im getting to be... but i am in NO WAY even close to the main dmg dealer in our grps... rogues and warriors (and yes even the occasional monk hehe) will far outdamage me on any given encounter... which is why we can take such pride in the fact that a warrior 5-6 lvls higher then us is cussing us cause he cant keep the mob on him (hehe.. sadistic i know but i get such a kick out of that lol :P ) and believe me.. our taunting abilities alone are a great tribute... I've had people specifically ask me on higher lvl raids JUST because of my taunting ability... and yea.. as far as the game goes... ur offensive/defensive is gonna be alot due to ur attitude and how u aproach the situation... so consider urself how u will and do si with pride... but don't slam someone cause they say were a defensive class... cause actually in camparison to the other primary mellee's ... we are... however I'll be damned if theres many other mellees out there who will plunge headfirst into an unwinnable fight simply for the pure pleasure of battle *grins evily* (hmmm maybe thats why im only lvl 44 *shrug* oh well.. I've said enough hehe laters
