I've never actually used the Coldain versions but my shaman pet does proc the velium weapons that giants drop.

There's no reason why your pet shouldn't be able to proc these.

Cost wise I would recommend the mage summoned Fist of Ixiblat over these. Much better proc for about 15pp on most servers.
Coldain Velium Longsword vs. Coldain Velium Scimitar

As a paladin on a relatively tight budget, I'm trying to decide between the Coldain Velium Longsword and the Coldain Velium Scimitar. According to this site, both have the same damage ratio, but the scimitar hits faster but for less damage. However, if this weapon is going to proc immediately, then it would seem a faster weapon would be better since you get the proc more often on the faster weapon. Given the fact that the scimitar is cheaper (107pp for Scimmy vs 141pp for the LS) and will have a better resale value for the druid class especially, I think I'm going to go with the Scimitar.

This weapon should be a very good weapon for a new druid. Having to waiting until the 20s for a regular velium scimitar is almost pointless since you will melee less often in the higher levels. If you can somehow come up with the cash for one of these, I would think it quite beneficial especially before you get SoW at level 14 and can kite MOBs. (Try selling silks or bone chips to players, or get lucky and get a few Pickbringer Coifs.) I ran my druid over to Thurgadin to get a price check, and it sells for 107pp with his average charisma rating.

Getting to Thurgadin is very hard, but it's still very possible for a naked newbie with SoW (and invisibilty or invisibilty vs. animals would be nice) to bind at the nexus, take the portal to the Great Divide, and run like crazy to Thurgadin. You'll die on a couple attempts, but if you're low anyway you can easily regain the experience loss. If you run naked, you lose no possessions and there is a bank in town where you can stop and withdraw your 107pp or so to buy the weapon. Then put the weapon in the bank in Thurgadin and either gate back to the nexus or attempt to run back to the Spire in the Great Divide. You'll probably die on the way back, but either way you have your weapon and lost only a little experience.

I had a hard time getting started with my first character. The higher you level, the easier it becomes to make plat, but It sure is hard in the beginning, especially when you have to buy spells. The best advice I can give you is spiderling silks. When your killing spiders anyway, collect the silks. This is easier now that spiderling silks and spider silks stack, but even before then, you could buy yourself a sewing kit, and 2 spiderling silks are guarranteed to turn into a silk thread for you. Once you have 20 threads find a player to sell them to. They are used primarily for leather padding (among other things), but people will pay between 10 and 20pp for a stack of spiderling silks, and that is the easiest way for a complete newbie to make some money. I would recommend trying to sell it in the EC tunnel.

Outside of the player economy, there really is no easy way to make plat in the game without simply leveling. I would suggest you check this site for newbie quests in your zone that award coin. I know the deputy tagil quest in rivervale is great for druids, but I think almost any class can run mail for the league of bards. The fastest route starts from kelethin and goes just one zone. Its a great way to make money when you have nothing.

I started a character on firiona vie (where it was impossible to find players with money to buy silk thread etc.) Ruined wolf pelts were going for 2gp/piece for a while in misty thicket. Everyone was dying to make patchwork armor. the tagil quest was disabled, and there were about 130 people in the newbie zone all jumping on anything that popped. Talk about hard to make money! Well I still managed to do ok. Just never leave anything on a corpse. By the time my warrior reached level 12 he was killing bull nose snakes in EK and selling the giant snake fangs (5 27 piercer) for 3pp a piece.

Any other server, I would just suggest you make use of players whenever possible. don't buy anything but bare necessities from vendors. Certainly NEVER buy always in stock armor and weapons from vendors. The only time to buy something like that from a vendor is when the vendor is reselling a magic item that another player sold to the vendor. sometimes you can get excellent deals buying from vendors, but not in the early levels when you dont have the money, and certainly never on items that a vendor always stocks.

Conserve whenever possible. As a druid you have to be careful which spells to buy when money is tight. look at www.eqdruids.com for a nice list of spells and a recommended purchase order.

The lucky ones get Pickbringers Coifs from the Orc camps in East Commons. I highly recommend getting into one of these Orc camps for newbies. These coifs sell for about 25pp or so. When I started out alone and untwinked on Firiona Vie server, I received 2 or 3 of these which is about enough to buy that Coldain Velium Scimitar. (However, I put my money into the blacksmithing skill instead.)

I have never seen the pickbringer coif drop in EC orc camps. Granted FV server may be different, but my experience has taught me that the pickbringer coif (an excellent money maker for newbs, sells to vendors for around 25pp a piece) drops in the orc camp in WEST commons.

I've seen these coifs drop in many different zones, and it's good to know they drop in WC as well. I can also verify they do drop in the EC camps.

There are 2 types of weapons here that we are all talking about.

The coldain Velium is a vendor only sold, and yes it procs at every lvl.

The other is a velium weapon, and it does not proc until lvl 25 or somewhere in there. And is mob dropped in Velious.

I will sell these at around 10pp over cost on vazaelle. I am still bound in thurgadin, so if you want one, and you are on vazaelle send me a tell. I think a 10pp profit is fair considering thats the going rate for a teleport, and my buying one of these for you involves two :)

My guess is with the higher cha, i shoul d be able to get the sciimmy in in the mid to low 90's from the vendor. send a tell to sligo, or gremli since i am most likely going to be in one of those characters these days.

started a level 1 halfling warrior and tried this weapon on him. gave him a 100 dex with a 100 agi, and it was procing 3-4 times in a fight. outside of that the fact that it is 6/24 not 5/24 like the regular velium, makes it an excellent druid weapon.

I also have a 24 druid, but he has an obsidian scimmy (mainly for the AGI). when i was level 12 though, I was trying to buy a coldain scimmy and there are never any auctioned. I saw one last night in the Tunnel, but the guy wanted 300 for it. which is way too much on vazaelle. I would price this at around 100, since it is a decent druid usable magic scim. I might have paid as much as 150 for it when i was lvl 14, but now that I own one, I think the 150 would have been too much. BTW, any druid who wants one, here is what you do.

take raft from n.ro to velius boat. then when in velius (right at the point where you get off the boat), SOW/LEV and invis self. Do not walk to the end of the dock to do this, there are wandering types in the area and they will eat you for lunch if your not yet lvl 35+

then run to thurgadin. It is 3 zones away. My price from merchant was 106 as apprehensive with a cha of 75. I have since raised my cha to 94 and may go back to check the prices again soon. I was planning on selling a bunch of these at a meager 10pp profit per unit, but got no takers. I bound myself right next to the vendor in thurgadin.

Weapon Procs

Also, different weapons start procing at different levels. Normal cheap Velium weapons proc at level 25, while Coldain Velium weapons proc at level 1. The normal ones are cheaper and obviously not good enough for level 25 players, so they are usually bought because they are magical weapons that enable players to hit magical creatures. Coladin Velium weapons cost more because of their effect, an effect that is insignificant on normal Velium weapons.
In addition, dual wielding two weapons with effects will make them both proc. However, a weapon procs only when it hits the target, so the weapon on your Primary slot will proc more because it hits more, while the weapon on your Secondary slot (off-hand) will proc less. The ratio between the hits and procs depends on how good you are on Dual Wield.
Therefore if you are dual wielding two weapons, it is recommended you put the one with the better delay, better effect or better damage dealing weapon on your Primary slot.

Dexterity is the statistic that determines how often a weapon with an effect procs. High dexterity = often procs. Also, when comparing between two weapons with effects, keep in mind that a weapon can proc only when it hits, therefore a weapon with lower delay will proc more than a weapon with higher delay, when used by a character with the same dexterity.

RE: Scimitar

Coldain Velium weapons are sold by a dwarf merchant in Thergadin way up the back near the residential section. You're looking at about 75-150pp dependingon charisma & faction.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 01 2001 at 1:07 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Obviously, based on these mails, it's not just the level, it must be a personal stat level you need to have as well, perhaps Dex. Those folks proc-ing at level one must have a high dex, while others need to wait til level 25 to get it to proc.
Coldain vs Velium
# Apr 20 2001 at 10:05 AM Rating: Default
Ok,

Here it is. there is a difference between the Coldain Velium weapons and regular Velium I have both. A Coldain Velium Scimitar on my Druid and a Velium Morning Star on my Cleric. My druid is 16th now and has been procing the wep ever since 1st lvl. This is a procing wep no level caps. The Velium however is a different story it procs at 25th lvl. my cleric is now 26th both are great weps and in my opinion under rated since they can hit for ok damage and proc for an extra 12 so i think its worth it.

# Mar 28 2001 at 9:35 AM Rating: Default
I am dual wielding the battle axes, I am at 24th lev and they do not proc yet.
They proc at 25th lev.
They will both proc if dual wielded.
I know this because they proc almost constantly for me(well they actually fail to proc, but i know theyre trying).
I do not know the damage of the proc, i have read 12dd, but i have heard the proc does 45-50 .
So i am unsure.
I would pass over this weapon if at all possible and purchase the velium battle axe wich looks far better.
I bought both of mine for 65pp each, so they arent that expensive.
Goodluck.
