they should make items that are extremely specific, for example, a dagger for priest that gives 1000 mana and nothing else at all, but usable by lower (55 or so) levels, and for melee classes a weapon that does like 10-15 dmg with about 3 delay and no other stats ( good for wars for aggro) and for rangers, a bow that does a mother f*** of dmg but has like 400 delay... these would be cool i think and not just looked over

armor with no stats other than 400 ac... stuff like this...

not saying i wouldnt mind it, but verant wouldnt put it in the game cuz its very unrealistic... 3 deley = 0.3 seconds, 4 attacks per round, so in less then 1 second you swing 12 times? and a bow that takes 40 seconds to reload? i could see a peice of armor with just AC... just a peice of armor not magicially enchanted but i couldnt see it haveing 6 times the armor of a magically enchanted peice :P

On Fire Resist
# Dec 21 2004 at 12:52 PM Rating: Decent
In my opinion, the reasoning behind SoE leaving the fire resist out is that Mages can bolster that particular resist by a substantial amount. Think about it, at level 61, Mages get Elemental Barrier (increases cold and fire resists by 60), and by the time a Mage gets their 2.0 epic, they've got Circle of Fireskin (level 70 group DS), which boosts fire resist up by 45. +105 to fire resist with just spells, on top of a substantial amount of mage-wearable gear having fire resist on it. Just my 2cp.

Some information: The clicky effect is stackable with all buffs that can be given the pet. The proc is 500dd fire -30resist, and procs often according to Lucy data. You can still KEI and regen the pet as normal. You can still Conviction and Wunshi the pet as well. I believe it stacks even with Brells though don't quote me on that. You can still give it summoned items, you can still give it procing weapons, and it can still cast its spells. So in short this can turn your pet into a 10k+ Warrior with the damage output of a well equipped Monk complete with flurries, crits, and enrage. *boggle*
The Focus effect is the first item ever given to mages to reduce agro from casting nukes or pet heals. AND it has 2 slots available for those nice lvl 70 casting augmentations. Yes I know so do all the other ones, but they mean a bit more for the casting classes since Anguish and MPG raid trials drop some very series focus augs.
Finally to enter Anguish is actually a good deal simpler (not necessarily easier, just simpler) than entering Tacvi for instance, but you would still have to have a solid, Time equipped Guild to have a shot at getting past Ikkinz 4 and Uqua to get the Abysmal Sea gear to be able to survive the MPG raids to enter Anguish. But if your game is -on- I think it could be done.
Grats to (I hope!) Abasio of Town Rebels! Nice work you guys!

So what does this buff applied to mage epic 1.0 do for damage ... say to Innoruk ?
I heard way back before hate got a revamp that a 55 mage with epic could solo Inny. Would this proc and a 70 earth elemental or 66 air elemental be able to go to hate and kill revamp Inny?

Hmm, I could tell the poster I am replying to wasn't a mage when the false statements started rolling.

"The Focus effect is the first item ever given to mages to reduce agro from casting nukes or pet heals."

Pet heals don't accumulate aggro and the mage epic 1.5 was the first aggro reducer I read about which was over a month ago.

Well, if you want to be picky, the foci were released at the same time being that this is just the full-power version of the 1.5

It's a one minute duration with a five minute recast. It's more of a Divine Aura than a real buff. Kind of reminds me of the DS I could cast when I was level 8. Ya know, DS lasting about a half a minute and costing 40 mana... doing about half the damage per mana as Flame Bolt and all that...

Another thing is that this makes us depend on our pets all the more for dps. What about the raid mobs that you can't use pets on?

Yeah, I'm not saying this isn't great. It's a wonderful epic with a wonderful pet buff and a good focus that'll stop mages from getting attacked, what with the crap amount of hate we all know CoA pulls out.

Oh, wait a second...

Well, at least it's a great epic with a nice pet buff...

Personally, I'd love to have this, just... well... kind of wish we had more dps without relying on our pets so much.

Hmm... a mage that wanna have more dps without relying on the pet so much ??

RE: Naysayers?

I don't mind having pets to add to my spell dps. I don't mind having a lower dps because my pet + my dps would be around the same as a class that has no pet's dps. What I DO mind is the fact that I HAVE to have a pet up to do any decent dps at all. Ever heard of a "spawn on death" mob, as some call them?

Some of them drop decent mage usable items, but as for usefulness on this type of raid for a mage (and even BSTs), it's very low. In addition, as mob levels go up, pets land less and less spells on them, and do less and less dps. This starts to taper off at a much lower level for the pet than it does the mage. A mage's dps is more constant going from mobs from levels, say, 64 to 66 at level 70 than a pet's is. Thus, if this were to increase a CoWind's dps by, say, 20%, the pure dps increase would get lower and lower as the mobs went up in level, while the mage's spell dps remained more constant. Thus, a 20% increase in the mage's dps might be better, considering whether or not the mage's spell dps is higher than his pets. I do not know, I'd have to look at parses, as I'm not level 70 yet.

Edit: One thing about pets having a high dps vs spells, I do have to say, is that one would have to spend less mana on spells to nuke to solo a mob and have pets at the same amount of health.

hes probly tinking of PVP. Mages are wipes in PvP, take away pet and they fold. My lvl 50 Necro PWNed a 65 mage, just by taking pet out of equation. I still had like 50 mana left, and 40% of it was from killing pet, slap a few dots on mage and hes a gonner.

Now at 65 i could PWN any mage that comes my way, and thatas not even EP geared.

BUt i dont mean to blow my own horn, Im sure a EP gearsed Mage or greater could make me into Gnome pattys.

It makes me a little sad that my Mage will never, ever see this item. By the time I'm level 70, Everquest will be over and everyone will have moved on to bigger and better things. I guess that's what I get for being a 'newbie', but it's taken me a year of casual play to get to level 56, and I'm not going to give up my 'real life' for a game that's pretty much dying out anyway. So, grats to those Mages who have the tenacity and the guildage to get something like this. For the rest of us, there's always Epic 1.0....

This game is not dying out...on Brell those that went off to try EQ2 or WoW are slowly coming back. The wieght of the years invested on EQ are holding others like me here.Yes you will lose some for good but then there are those n00bs that are coming here too.
As to the epic it is very nice I am a epic'd 48 mage waiting for 50 to cast pet and be sure I will be starting 1.5 as soon as the NPC's will talk to me.

EQ 1 wont die yet, it has some years left still. Chances are though that you wont see this item, since its Epic 2.0 and can only be done by the strongest guilds, some mobs that drop the quest loot is lvl 80 and are in high end zones.
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 21 2004 at 11:53 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) well if u can stik it out my guild has fu went to EQ2 but lots stayed the epic 2 is rechabel by anyone u just have to work on it start runing rades your self like y not im shee ther are a lot of people that will help u out or get to gether with sume peeps and work on your epic 2 at the same time one of them i magen will be a avrig player just cordenat when u are going get an opin rad and do it and if u wipe so what ther lvl 70 oooo im so scard of losing exp at that point hell id like to so i can go get sume more look at the reword if u win id say its worth it

great epic, but why it has no FR is because it's a template. Sony is just too lazy to customize epics :P
Congrats

Grats. This is a worthy epic. The regen is very nice, too bad it doesn't last the full 5 minutes, but that would be wishful thinking. And again, I guess SOE has something against fire resists?
RE: Congrats
# Dec 21 2004 at 3:46 AM Rating: Decent
That clicky goes on the pet not on the mage. So the regen and mana regen isnt that great imho.
