No level requirement on this quest - just gave the Strategic Map of Kithicor to Morin Shadowbane on a L1 HEF ranger and received the SSoM.
Very nice wep for folks lacking the cash for a SSoY.

The SSoM now has a damage bonus modifier on it.

Standard reply: all weapons have a damage bonus when weilded by a character of a class and level that gets one. 1-handed weapons get a static bonus based on the class/level of the character. 2-handed weapons get a bonus that varies based on the delay of the weapon (this was added to make some of the high-damage, high-delay 2-handers more attractive).

hmmmm, MAYBE he meant that a damage bonus is now LISTED on the description. of course every weapon has a damage bonus. quit spamming like a newb.
Well..my 23 Ranger dual wields Centi LS (14/27) and Lammentation (9/19) (Bougth for hard earned cash) Shoud I even bother with quest which can lead me on to multyple corpse runs into Kithor?

No ur all wrong SSoY looked Strait than SSoM came out and the changed SSOY than they changed stats on SSoM and the graphic, next patch they change SSOY to the same graphic as SSOM

Long as I can remember the SSOY has always looked the way it does. Having seen several dozen people dual wielding the damn things while attempting to finish off their full suits of rubicite in cazic thull...

Don't be so hasty to call him a knob, he us correct. The SSoY originally had a different graphic. Check out the Falchion of Koada'Vie, then you can see what the SSoY used to look like.

Although my Main weapon in the Stormwood Battle Staff (excellent hit/proc) and Dual wield is twin Wakasi of Frozen Skies (fast and outstanding proc)[I have lots of dex gear].
When I have a long distance to run. I use Gin Yang Claws and SSoM. Because I have found that the higher the STR/wieght ratio and AGI are the quicker I travel.
Also niether will the claws or SSoM will proc on reposte if I have a PL'ing Ward that I am taking hits for, but if they do get in trouble... The hits are quick and hard enough to take out whatever it might be (if less then a lvl 30 MoB).

Anyone know off hand if this item has been upgraded to accomodate Halfling rangers? I was going to assist a friend in this quest and realized he can't wield it if it hasn't been changed.

Having seen the Ghoul Messenger many times on my track crossing WK (and having reached level 30, he had been blue for a little while), I decided that I wanted this sword. I had spent some time the previous day hunting for him with no luck, but I found him after returning from QH after making some arrows. I decided now or never and cast entangling weeds (or whatever the new snare is... very fast cast time). He came down the hill pretty fast. I know he cast weaken & slow of some sort. I was beating on him, but he was beating on me too. I ooc'ed asking if anyone would be interested in helping me kill him. Ancarius <Order of the Black Sun> offered and was there before I knew it. With his help, it was clear that the Ghoul Messenger was going to be defeated. Shadowzarr <Rathe Nation> also came along and delivered the killing blow. Happily enough, I got the experience. After thanking them, I ran to Kithicor to turn in the map and get my shiny new short sword. This is replacing my PGT in my offhand. While yes, the PGT proc's, it also over-rides Strength of Earth, which I keep on. Not to mention that it weighs a LOT less. It's a perfect replacement and works well with my BALS.

Depends on you're level really. If you're 36 or above and your proc works on ssoy then use ssoy and ssom. Although Icetooth claws have a better dps, the ssoy is much better with a 75dd proc.

I was on my way back to Qeynos to the bank when i sawthis bougar on track , I had heard of the quest so I and my current Partner a level 30 Druid attacked him killed him with rather ease and today I am goingf to port to WC turn it in and get it I hope its worth it!

this is a great sword. I was really lucky and got arould lvl10 from the kindness of a higher fellow ranger. It has served me well and there isnt much better concering the ratio. Get it and keep it it will serve you well.

Someone in a earlier post suggested by asking to loot the Ghoul Messenger.
After I read his/her post (a couple days back), I immediately logged on (looking for a replacement for my Velium Scimitar that won't proc for me).
I was camped in WK and I sent a shout during daytime, "if you kill the Ghoul Messenger, can a young ranger please loot the body."
Almost immediately, someone /tell me the loc of the corpse. Sure enough the loot was still on him.
So, at least I thought, the worst part of it was over. I forgot about KF at night. I found the NPC and did the exchange. I did not have enough time to equip the sword when I had 5 undead (all con red) on my ***. Needless to say, corpse run.
Through the death and being scared off my ***, the sword is well worth it. The day will come when I can dual wield this and possibly my Velium Scimitar.

He attacks and will not run away until down to a little less then half health. Was a very easy kill. I didnt even lose half a bubble of health. As far as the sword goes it's a continuing quest. You will use this sword for your epics i think. As far as goin out and buying a better 1. (LOL) you better have a few Kpp lying around. I carry this a ssoy a blackened alloy long sword and a crystalized short sword.

This sword is not used in the epic, nor does it seem to be used in any continuing quest. You may be thinking of another quest sword, the Electrum-Bladed Wakizashi. That's used in a quest for the level 49 Ranger spell Call of Flames.

This would make a nice ranger weapon, and I think it will go well with my Icetooth's claws. I long ago got rid of my PGT. The damage was bad, the ratio wasn't that great, but the biggest factor was the stamina drain. (Also, I am lvl 18)
I never had trouble with stamina drain with my PGT, and I am a scrawny lil wood elf! I did get rid of my PGT when the proc started to only absorb one blow from the mob, tho....

This is the easiest quest I've ever done. It took me about 10 minutes to find the Ghoul Messenger and about 10 more to kill him, I was level 24 and I had a level 24 cleric friend helping me. The sword goes great with my PGT.

Goto NK spires and just head West until you zone, track and you should see him, he does spawn in the day, kill him, take the map to Morin and he gives ya the sword! Simple!

Later i asked a 35 Ranger friend and he told me the story i have yet to get the sword but im looking forward to it due to all the comments you all have made

Easy to say when you have 3 characters past level 30 (two of which past 50 =P) You spend you're money on that fancy stuff...I'll get this baby for free =P (delay 22, D@mn that's fast!) One of my friends loaned me his 7/22 Velium Etched Mace, All i pary is this thing is equipable in the Secondary Slot. SPEED DEMON!

the "bent sword" style you guys and gals are talking about is a kukri, it's a real powerful weapon, can cut a water buffalo's head off in a single swipe

He's talking about real life. Used by the Gurkha Regiments of Nepal with distinction since 1857 (Siege of Delhi). And the beheading of the water buffalo is done with the giant ceremonial kukri. The ceremony is called Dushera and is to bring good luck to the regiment if it cuts the head off in one swipe. Sorry, knife collecting is a passion of mine and has nothing to do with EQ.

I don't know for the Buffalo's [;)], but there's an animation of "head falling" when you kill the dwarven ghost in Unrest.

When I quested this sword I was a lvl 20 ranger and spent a week in the WK zone looking for the GM. Finally popped and had someone kill it for me. Since that Time I've running through WK maybe 8 times and the GM's been on track 7 of them. Figures. Helped a young ranger in my guild (17) get this last night. Ran into the zone, sure enough he was up, tracked and killed him, guildie looted. Just thought it was ironic after spending so long looking for it when I needed it, noeit's like I'm a magnet, everytime I'm in zone so is he.

There's another possibility why you see the Ghoul each time you are in the Karana's : Your tracking skill improved a lot till you were lvl20 and you can now see the Ghoul each time you pass through WK.

Somewhere they snuck in a new look, I just got this weapon today, and they have changed the graphic from a boring old stardard short sword, to the "bent sword" look, such as the Kanji (sp?) and some of the Yaks.

Great sword. Can be used well into the 30's. Also into the low 40's as secondary slot item, if a higher damage or procuring weapon is not available.

This sword is also +3 AGI, I think they added that when they changed the graphic so it would look like a SSOY.

other way around, SSoY originally looked like the bloodfire? from one of the planes. and they changed it to look like current morin which they changed to the curved blade before the SSoY
