Is this and it's 2-Hander version (Langseax of the Wolves) no longer MAGIC? That would be a strange change and a shame. Just noticing the MAGIC tag is not listed on the stats but you can see it clearly had tat flag in the older images.

They removed the MAGIC tag from mobs, so no need to have that tag on weapons any longer.

The answer is simple "I LOVE QUESTS" thats it I am not a twink i came to Morden Rasp server so i would not be tempted and am enjoying myself totally as i try to raise my warrior through the ranks...mainly by getting items through quests.I feel so refreshed in my gameplay.

btw i think that even though it is an old world item, i still believe it is pretty good for the efort. I like doin quests. And i agree samwhat with everyone. I believe a 65 ebay newb is wierd. I don't believe that twinking is cheating if you give it to an alt. You are still putin in the effort to get the item. I also believe, why flame the old quests. They are fun. Specialy interactive ones such as this, epics, Ring war. These are my favorite. Thats all i gotta say. Thx.

I think a lot of people have forgotten what the original release was like. At the time I sent this quest in, bronze armor was still goiing for 5p an ac point and 1000p was uber and people actually sharpened rusty weapons to get a tiny bit more performance out of them.

This particular quest was a God send to many many people who didn't have the plat to buy silvery axes or weapons off the gypsies to hit magic creatures.

Just thumbing through the site and boy does this bring back old old memories from 1999.

Ok, just my 2cp, but here goes.

You say you have never played on any server but PvP, well that's all well and fine, but the game, although possible for PvP, was, for the most part, intended for PvE. The quests are there for the possible enjoyment of ANYONE who wants to do the quest. If you don't enjoy the quest, then simply don't do it, and quit griping about being KSed and PKed. If you've always played on PvP, then you should be used to that type of thing now.
I have also played on PvP, though admittedly not as much as you (I'm sure). But I was also wise enough to realize that PvP was not for me, and move on. You won't find me crying that PvP is unfair and is a waste of gametime. Why? Well what works for me won't (obviously) work for people, thus the wide array of game experiences that is everquest. Yes quest, for I think we should all quest for the best playing experience possible.

What, are you on your period? If people want to enjoy questing -- just like the game's name suggests -- then they should be able to do it without being called 'laimo's' (by the way, there shouldn't be a ' in laimos. If you try to edit it out you just admit that you can't face the fact that you're wrong.) Twinking says that you suck too bad to play the real way. Geezus, grow up.

I've played EQ for about 2 years now and the highest level I ever got to was 45 with my Bard on the Seventh Hammer Server. I can remember when I was dual weilding a Cold Iron morning star and my newly uber item, Thulian Blades. I've since gotten several charactors to their 20's and finally found that I like my Rogue the best. Old world quests like this are awesome because they give you a sense of adventure and make you use your brain. My Rogue is a pretty big tweak, but it's only becuase my other chars are nekkid now. I'm doing my Burning Rapier quest now even though the reward doesn't replace my current weapons. It's like it was stated below...this is EverQUEST, not EverLOOT. If you start out with the best gear possible, where's the learning?, where's the struggle?...where's that awesome feeling you get when you pick up that 8/26 weapon with an 81DD for the first time?(Wazikashi/Yak) If you don't find struggle in your gaming, what's the point in playing? Go log on Diablo and dupe yourself a set of God armour and leave the questing to us that have a taste for adventure and treasure hunting.

I agree completely with this statement! I've seen so many posts about low-level items with low-level stats being 'lame' and stuff, and none saying that they really enjoyed the actual QUESTING part of the experience.
My highest level character is my Dark Elf Shadowknight, and at only lvl 24 I couldn't really go twinking any other characters anyway, but even if I could I wouldn't because I ENJOY the struggling that is supposed to come with the low levels.
This could possibly be one of the best posts I've ever read - someone who actually seems to understand the point of playing the game!

I fully agree. Ive been playinf on Erollisi Marr for 3 years. My first character a friend twinked, then i twinke d teh next, and the next, and the next so on and so forth..i never ever quested..so now i decided to change servers and start a new and its GREAT!!! = ). Ive never gotten into character so much and enjoyed the 3 gold i got for turning in a few necklaces and pelts for PATCHWORK armor, cmon i started all my chars with over 3k worth in gear on Emarr..every character. Now im scraping to get a 2 handed rusty sword lol. But i do think they should add newbie armor quest like they did in,, well ALL THE OTHER CITIES PRACTICALLY. Anyways, as always Good luck fellow Evercrack addicts and hope your adventures turn out to be as rewarding as mine.

Yes it is. What the hell are you talking about?
Twinkage...
# Oct 28 2002 at 3:59 PM Rating: Decent
Yes, I also agree...though sometimes when I try to explain this to newcomers, I feel like I'm saying "and back in the OLD days we had to walk uphill in the snow both ways to get a Lanseax, and we were damn grateful when we got it!"

I mean, it's the same thing with the eBayers, who buy their way into a high lvl character with great gear, without inderstanding how much you LOVE your gear when you have to work for it.

Of course, now there is the pressure to "keep up", and I have my lvl 53 rich "papa bear" shaman to twink all my alts. I rationalize by saying "oh, I've already fought in these zones, I am just speeding up the process of getting to something new and interesting". I'm not sure if I buy it myself. However, I also don't like the idea of spending 20 hours a week for the next three years at my computer to get them where I want them, either...

Okay. First things first. Instead of taking a shot in the dark that someone would happen to see your post and sell one to you, why don't you get off your lazy behinds and go quest for it? It's not that hard--if you need help, I could tell you locs of everything. It's one of the rare quests that doesn't intercontinental travel and still has a pretty decent reward.

Second--I agree with everyone out there that says the Langseax is a great dual wield weapon. It's one of the few 1HS out there with both a higher dmg and a lower dly. If you aren't into the dual wield thing, go for the Langseax of the Wolves. Instead of taking back the head of Basil, get Paglan's and you'll get LoW. It's 2HS, but has a quite better ratio.
Yeah they are great
# Jun 22 2001 at 11:00 AM Rating: Decent
I got 2 just before I went up to 13th. These really do the job. I was wondering, would it be better if I had a PGT in my primary instead of 2 langseaxes? I had heard that this would be the optimum mix. Would this be true?

Not better then thulians

I read the message about the langseaxes being just as good as thulian claws.
They are not the same ratio.
thulians are a small percentage faster.
Also anything with a lower delay with the same ratio is perferable. this is why 1h slashing is better then 2h in the first place.
If you miss with the claws you don't do lets say 11 damage. you miss with the langseax you miss 13-14 damage and you have to wait longer.
lets say you are in a fight that lasts long enough for 10 strikes of the langseax. chances are you will get in around 13-14 wit hthe thulians. dealing aproximatly the same damage(similar ratios after all). However if you miss three attacks in the course of the fight you see that the claws do more damge . in other words they are more consistant.
Now i hear what you are saying about the price. yes 500p is a little much when 30p is fine.
so i agree that the langseaxes are better for the money they are not better overall.
Personally i like 1h blunt.
nice dwarven sap(8/20 around 500 on my server dwarf only 1h blunt) or a cane of the traquil. or maybe piercing is the way to go. some nice piercers out there for warriors.
basically i would reccomend that warriors do four things
1)keep ALL weapon skills maxed
2)Keep taunt maxed
3)get agil over 100 as soon as possible
4)get str and ac as high as they can go
RE: Not better then thulians
# Sep 14 2001 at 3:02 PM Rating: Default
Lets look at your example:
You are compairing the 6/23 lan to the 5/19 claw.
Since you are missing once every three swings with the lan. At the same skill you will miss at the same frequency with the claw. So you miss 3 times with the lan, So you missed hits add up to a possible 36 hps of damage. While with the claw you will miss 4 times, and you missed hits adds up to a possible 40hps of damage. Seems to me that you would do more damage with the lan.
RE: Not better then thulians
# Nov 15 2001 at 10:37 AM Rating: Default
Wow if you then had a 10/19 weapon your misses would total to 80 hps damage. The better the weapon the more damage your missed swings account for. Your logic is flawed.

The two weapons are very close in artio, and will deal similar damage. However main hand gets a small bonus, even at low levels you can deal up to dam*2, so the faster weapon is preffered when the have similar ratios.

On the other hand I believe claws only go in the main hand, so the lanseax is more versitile.
RE: Not better then thulians
# Apr 12 2002 at 6:09 PM Rating: Default
I think you missed my point. I was trying to show that you can not say which weapon is better by how much they miss for. Pre lvl 28 same ratio same damage.

As far as how the two weapons compair:
By the time the str bonus makes a differance in these two weapons, you should already have better ones.
At lvl 28 the Claw will do 0.01 more hitpoints of damage every sec. At lvl 31 it will do 0.02 more dps. Or just over one more hitpoint of damage every min. Before lvl 31 you should have a better weapon.

For the lvl these weapons will be used at there is no real differance.

Nor is there any real differance in the taunt value of these weapons.
Great off hand sword
# Apr 04 2001 at 4:12 PM Rating: Default
Yes these are great dual wielded. They are also one of the best weapons to use in the off hand if you are using a Ebon Razor, or Short Sword of the Yakuza, as your primary. Most people I see using these swords have a sword that is slower in the off hand and therefore only get a chance to dual wield every other primary attack.

So if you intend is to use the Yak or the Razor make sure you hold onto one of these little gems.
weapon skills
# Mar 23 2001 at 11:30 AM Rating: Default
Thought for a long time for the best way to get all my weapon skills up. This weapon and dual wield are great for that. If you add the Dragoon Daggar with this weapon, you will raise piecing and 1HS up. The best thing is that the daggar is the same stats as the langseax. 8) No damage loss over 2 of these and you raise 3 skills instead of two (Dual wield, piercing, and 1HS).
Great Dual Wield - and cheap too
# Jan 31 2001 at 11:37 PM Rating: Decent
This weapon is great for dual wielding because of its low delay. I have found them being sold all the time for 15 to 30 pp and can easily earn that amount so actually performing the quest may be unnessary. My biggest money making projects have been stacks of bone chips for Necros (2 to 5 pp per stack) and silk swatches (1 pp and up per swatch) so getting the necessary PP was not difficult. I purchased my first Langseax at level 10 (I am a Dwarf and there are not too many sold in our parts) after I traveled to Freeport, and my 1-HS skill went through the roof. I put it in my off hand at level 13 and my duel wield shot up as well. For the price and spead of the weapon, this has been awsome for increasing my skill levels. I usually max my 1-HS within a bubble of my new level because I swing the blade so many times.

I know players who actually dual wield these into their mid to late 20's because they are cheap and so difficult to beat at these levels for pure damage output. Especially after dual wielding. I have even had heavy two handed hitters sigh at the amount of damage I can deal with these simple weapons. I can't wait for double attack to see the amount of damage I could do over time. I better save my money for better armor because with the damage I do and my taunt, the monsters just love to beat on me.
RE: Great Dual Wield - and cheap too
# Mar 01 2001 at 10:05 AM Rating: Excellent
Ahmen to that my brother.
I too am a dwarfen warrior.
I have been battling for 18 seasons now and I am in complete accordance with you,the langseaxe is excellent.
I was using a bladed thullian claw wich I bought for around 500pp.I then caught a glimpse of the langseaxe.
It's ratio is just as good as the thullian claw, and it costs 30pp max!!!!
I sold my thullian claw and bought a finesteel breastplate, and a pair of langseaxes, as well as some other knick knacks.
I would advise ANY warrior(langseaxe is warrior only) who plans on dual wielding, to get a pair of theese mighty, yet completely inexpensive weapons.
I must away with me now lads, for there are many goblins afoot.
TO BATTLE!!!!!
