To everyone who says this item sucks, there has to be crappy items for other items to be good. If you do this quest in-game, using no metgaming (IE Allakhazam) then yes, it's a bit dissappointing, but you did a small quest and maybe made some friends along the way. I've done some crappy quests just for the experience of doing them, like the SK armour quests out of Queynos and the caster armour quests out of Neriak. They build faction, give a little experiece, and give you a chance to form relationships that will last a long time. That's the point of the game, in my opinion, not getting the next 'uber item'.

Although the end result isn't uber, it is a great quest in my honest opinion. I have done it twice, once with a level 38 paladin and a 43 druid for porting here and there,. and once with a group of 6 all at level 16. This game we play either as an obsesion or as a way to enjoy time we spend, it is almost always with a group of people, and for half of us, it is with a buch of friends, you start out on a new server, and do things together... this quest is one of them.
It gives decent xp as Crushbone IS an outdoor dungeon and hence gives dungeon xp, not to mention all the belts, pads and scalps you and your team will collect as you hunt in cb, the throne room can and will get you to level 22, then paludal caverns or unrset depending on the genre you like...
Not to mention oh ya... this quest was when there was no kunark, no velious, no luclin, no planes of power, no legacy of the yekesha and no lost dungeons of norrath.... so it is not to bad for using A LITTLE effort and time for a magic weapon,.. especially for all those anti-twinkists... if there are any left in this game of uber gear and twinked 1st level characters

Sorry to disagree, but this quest has NOT been there before everything else was. It was added AFTER Kunark and the weapon was bad even then.
The ratio effort/reward is simply bad.
I like doing quests, I was one of the first who finished this one, but this thing is simply only a nice quest. Don't do it for the reward.
24/6 is a worse ratio than the Felwithe Defender Falchion which you can do solo at ten levels lower and is much more in line with the rest of the game.

And you are talking about a weapon that didn't get added until the newbie armor quests came in with Luclin and SoE was trying to get new and low level players caught up so they join raid guilds faster and would have a use for all the newest expansions as soon as they came out. So stop trying to compare this weapon to one that came out 2 expansions later with the sole purpose of being overpowered for the level the player was at the time they were able to get it.

Dumb question.... Why did they not just use a stupid Falchion image? I was thinking my druid could use... kind of lame to name it that and stuff. What does it look like equipped?

On a no-twink server like Firiona Vie, this item is pretty tough to quest for. Killing Dvinn is not something that should be taken lightly, and by the time you can solo him, he's probably green. On my server that means trivial loot and you don't get the heart. With a good group around level 20 or so, you should be able to take him. However even on Firiona Vie where magic swords are harder to come by, a 6/24 is probably not worth all that trouble.
Do this quest if you want to walk in the steps of a paladin; don't do the quest if you just want a sword.

It is a Paladin only sword. If you don't want to get it, then don't...but a true Paladin will go get it, just to prove his worth to the Koada'Vie.
/ooc...You must remember, that this was in the game at the beginning. It wasn't a bad sword. Also, you can do this quest at 20 with a full group (best to have an enchanter if possible, and a cleric). Since you really couldn't get a ghoulbane before you were 30+, this was a logical step. Now that there is the Ghoulbane Quest, it's much easier to get one, not to mention all the other weapons that are better.
I just did this quest, at 34, and feel good about it. It wasn't even easy (though it wasn't exactly hard, either). I wasn't paying attention, and not only aggro'd BOTH dragoons, but the Ogre as well. I managed to live, but had to use LoH (two Harm Touches, one from each dragoon for 200+ will leave a mark).
Do the quest, and be proud...hell, you can do the DW Harpoon quest on the way back to BBM if you so feel like it.

I believe this just goes to further prove my point - they need to revisit older items and bring their stats in line with the newer ones. Not only are the stats for this sword not worthwhile, I hear that the same can be said for all of our epic items. If it's an epic or class-specific item, especially for Paladins who dont' get very much attention anyway, they should have better stats than this on it. This is barely worth my time, and the only reason that I'll probably go ahead and complete the quest is to see what it looks like.
All nestalgia aside, this weapon now sucks due to other weapons you can buy for afordable pp that are tons better. This weapon has 2 more damage and the same delay as the starting sword you get. I know it might have been considered good even though 2 more damage to me, having started after velious expansion, seems horridly stupid to spend all the time on a quest like this but there's no reason to keep saying this over and over. For people looking for info on this quest I believe this sword is not for any larger sword in the future or another other continuing quest so go fight in qeynos newbie yard for a while and get 50pp for buying at least a Centi War Spear, you're much better off...

The newbie weapon for high elf paladin's is 8/29 +1 str +1 wis and looks like a bloodfire. an example of a better weapon. But even though I may have that weapon, I am still going to quest for this one. It's not the loot, it's the feeling of doing the quest and proving you are something that counts
I think the newbie weapon he was referring to is the one that you are "born" with, not the one you quest for. The weps that all characters are born with is about the same as a rusty but with the difference that a rusty can be sharpened and made better, while the newbie one can't which is why early on most newbs were ecstatic when they killed their first skellie and got it to drop a rusty that they could use. A lot of people ran around for a long time with rusty or tarnished weapons and bronze and fine steel ones were called uber at one time. I remember doing the run from Qeynos to FP to do the fleshy orb turn in for a fine steel wep ages ago when all I had was a rusty. Sure, most of the older gear is way outdated, but would anybody buy expansions if they updated all the old world stuff to make it as good as the latest gear??

Posted: Jul 21 2001 at 8:00 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) geez this weapons sucks but they must have put it in the game before the ghoulbane. i have a GB and just looking at paladin weapon and armor quests while i level some more, but this is the dumbest one i've seeb so far. o well in 20 some thing levels i'll have soulfire and be working on firery advenger and our paladin holyest sword the firery defender (epic weapon). if ya think about it you get this at 22 but you could get a GB really easy just run to EC and there is most likely someone selling one for a few hunderd plat which ain't hard to get just get some HQ pelts and sell them fo as much as you can.

This quest sucks. You have to be level 22 and a paladin and you get a crappy 1hs weapon that is no drop? Who came up with this. Maybe it would be a little better if paladins could dual wield. WTF.

This quest really Sux butt. For anyone that wants to help a newb(<10) get a really good sword go kill Dvinn, and the Prophet, and let them loot the heart and head. Then take them to OOT and jump off the ship at the first set of crags that you encounter heading to FP (i.e. right after you zone into OOT from BB). Wait until it is around 11 or 12 at night, to be sure that he spawns. Goto the island where there is a Troll Fishing (not sure of name). Kill the middle Siren on thiss island and that is the spawn of the necessary Ogre for the box.
HINT: make sure you are not too low when going to OOT or the middle Siren and the one really close to it will aggro you. One down side is that the other 2 sirens on the island are PH for 2 Dragoon DE SKs. So make sure you are at least 25, so as to make sure you dont get aggrod by the siren close to the middle one. As long as you dont kill the other 2 sirens the middle siren spot will spawn Brawn(i think that is his name). I suggest not even trying to solo the dragoons until around 25. They have a nasty intro spell that did close to 180dmg to me b4 they started meleeing me. of course i was 28 at the time so that spell only did minimal dmg to me (1 bub of hp). and took him down in 10 rounds (its a wonder what you can do with a DW Harpoon with 2HS maxed out for the lvl).

Want help with this quest and i am close, dont be afraid to send a tell. I hated trying to do this quest solo for crap of an item.

Fpr this hard of a quest, well its not that hard, you should get something a bit better. 1hs 4dmg 24delay? that sucks if you ask me. I say we change it at least.

The loc of the specific island is (going from memory here) 200, 9000 (both pos) in the OOT. The island cluster you want is the one you pass immediately upon zoning from BB to OOT. And he doesn't necessary spawn at 5am (he kinda dropped in on my group around 9pm). The weight of the box is 15.0, and no, the weapon isn't really worth the trouble at that level, although the XP I got from completing the quest re-dinged me to 21. ;) Oh...and the NODROP on it is broken...so feel free to sell it or give to a newb, or whatever. ::grins:: That should correct all the li'l errors thus far on this quest...if anyone else knows more about it, knock yourselves out. Safe journies...

FYI,
This is a result of a pretty much worthless series of quests. You have to get 3 No-Drop Lore items in order to receive this sword.
Kill Dvinn in Crushbone to receive his BLACK HEART.
Kill the Prophet in Crushbone to receive "BLUE ORC HEAD".
Lastly, you have to travel over to the Ocean of tears, Kill a Named Orge that spawns at 5AM every morning (Siren Island) and loot the "SHIPPING CRATE" (warning, its really heavy at something like 15-20 pounds).
Bring all 3 of these items to the HighElf city of Felwithe to the Paladin guild leader in the basement. Give them to Lord Jya(something) to recieve this sword.
My Opinion, this sword sucks compared to the level at which you have to recieve it. The only reason I would get it is to raise your 1HS skill up. Its really fast but doesn't do much damage to something like the Goulbane (which you should be questing for right around the level your able to recieve this item)
Also note: The weapon looks REALLY Cool compared too normal falchions. Maybe thats a reason to go get it. =)
