Well....I wouldn't say that it is strictly a bard item. 16AC in an arm slot item is nice for anybody that can use it. The +3STR is offset somewhat by the 7.0 weight and the +8 CHA helps anyone when buying/selling or talking to certain NPCs. Sure, it helps bards with their charms, but that doesn't make it strictly a bard item. If it was, the tag would read
BRD
HUM HEF ELF
and nothing else

A lvl 31clr, lvl 33war, and lvl 33rng. Easy kill gave them to ranger since the clr and the war couldn't wear. Could of killed him with a cleric and almost any other melee class. He isn't too difficult.
I'm just looking for an opinion/advice on this; Are these better than coterie sleeves? i have a 33 rogue who is currently wearing coterie sleeves(AC: +7 Str: +2 Fire Resist: -2 HP: +6) and i'm wondering if i should invest the time and/or money in obtaining these. Thanks in advance for any advice

I don't know anything about rogue gear. But if you are asking me if AC 16, 3 STR, 8 CHA sleeves are better than AC 7, 2 STR, -2 SvF, HP 6 sleeves.....then my answer is a loud, loud, YES. Forget about the STR, the amount that STR actually increases damage is so small that it is all but pointless. Forget about 6 HP, that is like adding 1 or 2 STM. 8 CHA is nice for selling stuff, hey great. The main thing is these are more than double, DOUBLE the AC of the sleeves you currently are wearing. Resists are nice, but the sleeves you have on are terrible in that department already.
These are no-drop, (I'm assuming the above info in the pic is correct.) so you will have to get a few friends and go group to do these yourself, can't buy them. I am just currently looking into doing the rare cycle in FM myself, as I have read there is some pretty decent stuff that drops there, including these sleeves. Heck, AC alone these are better than Ry'Gorr sleeves. Just my 2cp.
Actually there are two completly seperate and coincidental cycles, in which the monsters range in level from 30-40.
Both cycles utilize approximately the same locations,
LOCATIONS: A) SouthEast corner near Dreadlands zone (n-2500/n-2100) are the cycle#1 Goblins(Blugtugin) Cycle#2 Small Brutes (Rabid brute). B) SouthWest (n-3333/p-1200) near Nurga and BurningWoods zone is the Cycle#1 Giants (Prospector) Cycle#2 Big Brutes (Oogoog). C) NorthWest (p-1800/p-2800) near Droga and west of the OverThere zone for the cycle#1 Burynai(Grand Cenobite) and cycle#2 Sarnaks(Claxziss)
(Locations are centralized and mobs s/b druid trackable)
These are Two Different cycles the Medicine totem(5 wisdom range slot) is in the Goblin/Giant/Burynai cycle#1 also Gem Encrusted circlet 6 Int, Ebon Razor 9/25, Dustcryer Crystal Ball 2 Int 30mana range slot, Goblin Soul Caller 5 Wisdom cleric neck, Belt of the Cenobyte 7 Wisdom cleric belt, Dusty Breastplate etc.
The second cycle #2 is small brutes ie Diseased , rabid, berzerk etc in the SouthEast. Named Brutes like Oogoog and the odd sarnak assasin, Goblin Coward and Burynai squad leader in the SouthWest. Then Sarnaks in NorthWest ie Bloodscale, Warlord, Draketamer, Slithinis and Claxziss who drops Ancient Sleeves, other items include Ring and Earring of Dominance 8Ac, Draketamer Whip 9/23 offhand and the mossy Twig/Branch twig 4/10 offhand.
Killing a Sarnak named in NorthWest will Not spawn a Goblin in SouthEast.
This is a Super fun camp for groups and can be hectic and quite dangerous even for 50's to solo, especially when your pulling CLaxziss and two or three green gob bonebinders join in. Reccomend three groups of minimum lvl 35 one group at each spawn point for some fast fun!
Oogoog, Boogoog, Miner Boradkn, Overseer Miklek, Sarnak Warlord and Bloodscale are all level 40-42 warriors. Claxziss is a 42 Shaman. The grand cenobite and the wandering stonehealer are 38 - 39 Clerics. Blugtugin and the gob Chieftain are 38 Wizards and the Iksar slayer and gob Headhunter are 35-36 Shadowknights.
I must be the unluckiest ranger in the whole of EQ. I camped this cycle for 5 hours last night, died twice (my fault) and still no varithyx. This information regarding 2 cycles is extremely useful. I wish I had checked this site yessterday. Any further tips would be greatly appreciated. I just find it so hard to believe that people just walk into FM and he is up!
When I wear these on my Iksar warrior, it looks like the cabilis scale color. I don't know why, but maybe because I have majority cabilis scale, so maybe all of those pieces overide the one or 2 I have different.
First let me say that I hate this zone. Keep lev up and invis-for all the good it will do you. Giants in Kunark see invis and they are everywhere. Anyways, I decided I needed these for my 40 Ranger so I talked my brother (54 wiz) and his girlfriend (59 mage) into helping me with the spawn cycle. I sat Tishia down in the NW corner and she summoned a pet and my brother and I headed towards the Giant Fort. We got lucky right off the bat when I saw Blugtigin on track. We killed him in the SE corner and that pretty much made the trip worth the effort. I checked tracking and I saw a mob named Joljor (a green brute). Not sure if he was there when we killed Blugtigin but he was near the SW corner. Then I saw Bloodscale on tracking about 5 min later. I told Tishia he was up and she sent her pet after everything in the corner. By the time we got there it was a graveyard. Epic pets are scary. He didn't drop anything. We went south and I picked up a mob named Boogog to the SE. He was a blue brute but pretty weak. Dropped nothing. Next was a Sarnak Rebel in the SW corner. We killed him and sat down to med and I checked my tracking again and there was Verithyx to the north. I am not 100% sure if Blugtigin is involved in the cycle but the others have to be. Those mobs were all we killed, well except for the slaughter in the NW corner and the odd giant that jumped us. It looks like Joljor in the SW. Named Sarnak in the NW (Bloodscale for us). Bogog in the SE. Sarnak Rebel in the SW corner. I had heard that Verithyx spawned near the Giant Fort but we killed him in the NW corner so he and Bloodscale must share a spawn point.
It's possible, however rare, to have two rares pop in the same cycle. It's a super thing when you're tag-teaming the cycle and are getting two rares in each corner.
Blugtigin is on a different cycle from the Sarnaks. Blugtigin is on the standard gob->giant->burynai cycle, while all the Sarnaks have their own cycle, involving rare brutes.
Blugtigin, by the way, drops a Medicine Totem. Great item for profit or use.
Who cares who they are 'best' for? If it is an improvement, in that players opinion, then they should try and get them. I agree that the bard may be able to maximize the use of them, but these are the best sleaves that I have seen near this level. jonjon d'bard.
Who wouldn't love 8 more charisma? True, bards need charisma for their songs or whatever (never played one), but look at the great AC and other stats too! Clerics could always use more str to help them carry their clericly armor, which can almsot encumber a high elf.
Not that I disagree that she should have been able to roll on these, but....If you ever look around, there are TONS of items that are "Pally only" or "Ranger only" etc, etc, that have strange stats for an item for that class. Like INT on a Pally item and no WIS. Just because an item is "best" for one class, dosen't mean it will be that class only that can wear it. Often the reverse is true, unfortunately.
I was in a group as a warrior last night and one of these drops. The bard in our group said these were only good for him because of the charisma. The rest of the group agreed saying "what good is charisma to a warrior?" and wouldn't roll for em. The bard just looted it. I promptly left the group.
My question: Who the hell do people think they are telling me what's good for me?
I love my crafted sleeves, but these offer 2 more AC and 2 more strength, and there are plenty of younger warriors in my guild that would love to get my crafted sleeves if I got these as a replacement. Plus, what warrior wouldn't love to have 8 more charisma when they go sell all their FS to merchants or when they buy the gems needed to complete the other crafted quests?
I understand the thought that bards benefit from these sleeves and their +8cha more than my warrior would, but being that I can use em and they are better than my crafted even without the +8cha, I really should have been included in the roll.
I'm most surprised that the 2 shaman in the group didn't speak up, as I know these sleeves are better than their Totemic...
The bard in your group should have had those arms taken away from him by a GM (IMHO). I cannot stand ninja-looters, nor those that lie about the usefulness of an item so they can claim sole rights to it. Take the +8cha and shove it...this is a GREAT item for any character that needs AC and/or STR.
Yes, its great for bards, but it is equally valuable to warriors, rangers, SKs, etc.
I have to agree. AC is AC, if what you are wearing has worse AC than this (and you want to wear it) by all means you should be able to roll for it. I am sick of people saying "this is a monk item" or "this is a bard item". If your class can wear it, and it is better than what you are wearing, then this is an item you should be allowed to roll on.
I play a bard on Prexus and yes i would love these, much better than my Ry-Gor =P, but i would never exclude anyone who could wear an item from a roll for any reason. Hope that restores your faith in people somewhat.

All i can say is, WTF was WRONG with the people in your group?! This is in NO way JUST for bards... it has some of the best AC for arms for lots of classes listed.. and quite frankly i think anyone who CAN wear this and wants it should roll for it...
Those people were just ignorant and you should have protested more... you were in the right.
These are not really very rare if you have a good tracker with you. My group (druid, ranger, mage, warrior... all 35+) picked up two of them last night... went to warrior (me) and ranger of course. Very nice arms, no hesitation to replace crafted.
I think the spawn/drop rate of these was nerfed after I got mine, so do not rely on this information 100%... They dropped off of Verithyx, a ~25 Sarnak warrior type. He was a tough fight for a 25, when the character I was playing was 34. He spawned at almost exactly (0, 0) in the Frontier Mountains. When facing the entrance to the Giant Outpost, turn to about 1:30-2:00 and go about 220ft. Very rough EQ estimation there:-P I was the tracker in the group at the time. I soloed him til our bard caught up, then won the roll. They became my favorite item even with Tree Weave, Hero, Yak, etc. About 2 hours later, he spawned again. Same place, same drop. Our rogue won the roll, but it turned out she was a gnome with a Deception on, so she couldn't wear it:( Upon his death that time, Boogoog spawned about 20ft away. He must have been about level 15, and dropped a quest item. Anyway. Hope this helps. Again, they may have moved his spawn, and changed his rates... Anyway, good luck!=)
eh friend! don t forget a thing, AC is K.I.N.G. !! and these sleeves may be needed for a lot of classe, ranger, rogue and shaman who are mail class for exemple, but other plate class too, which would have some difficulties to get better before a long time! the only class who don't need it is monk, as the weight is.. hem... a little heavy for them :)
