Um.. you all are far too.. shallow? in a dictionary, 'ken' means:
Perception; understanding: complex issues well beyond our ken.
To have knowledge or an understanding.
A house; esp., one which is a resort for thieves. [Slang, Eng.]
I think with the Wis bonus, that goes along with the understanding, but seeing as how the mob IS a thief, the last fits rather nicely as well. Looking beyond the obvious will often reveal a great many things. :)

also "ken" is used to mean sword or swordsmanship in japanese.. such as Kenjutsu.. the Art/Way of the Sword
