Planes of Power
I've been looking on here and trying to find out what the purpose of this book is other than to get other quests. Is it used to access certain planes? Some talk about the item getting better, how exactly does it get better? Anyone own one of these and can give some insight into the benefits of this item would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: Basically is it just a place holder kind of item, that is used to get you to higher items?

Use this as a guide, I printed it and got the quest done very quicky (3 times).
Traveler's Manual Quest Map with Instructions
Had to complete this quest 3 times for the 3 other manuals (combat, magic and stealth). It eats the manual with the turn ins =( .
I might do it a 4th time to keep the travelers manual in case the faction modifier is usefull later on.
Hope this info comes in hand.

The book is located on the shelf next to the NPC named Sir Geravaldin he sells the Ardathium volumes. The shelf you need is the one that Sir Geravaldin is facing also. If you face this book shelf, the book spawns on the lower right hand side of the shelf. Sir Geravaldin is located on the 2nd level above the druid spell merchants.

i went to this location and picked up the book but it wasnt the same book. the one i got was called "History of Evils: The Age of Scale". Lore, No Drop,class none race none. cant read or equip it. im wondering if they changed what book spawns there or if there is some sort of rotation.
Thats the book for Willamina's quest for sewing needles ya get the Planar Travelewr's Manual from Willamina after ya do her quest in PoK.

Hopefully this has been made clear to you by now, the book you picked up is the beginning of the quest... The manual is the reward at the end. Read carefully "result of a quest" and "used in a quest".

Has anyone noticed that when you equip this, you get some sort of night vision. It isn't as good a wolf form, but it is still good for Humans, etc without night vision

The item acts as a light source, there aren't any special effects on it that I know of.

The actual experience gain is equal to about 1% on a lvl 6 Barbarian. So, that's about as much exp as you get for turning in your newbie note :)
This quest can be done backwards starting at the book, just get each item and hand it to the next guy:
When loc includes 3 values, the 3rd one will vary a little depending on how tall you are so the library exit is at height 2 for a halfling but height 11 for an ogre.
Get Book: it's on the bottom shelf located at neg 93, pos 977, pos 66 (it's about a 30 minute respawn give or take)...
Library exit is at neg 10, pos 836, pos 2 and can be a pain to find :)

Caden Zharik eyes go wide...

Bard faction song has no effect here
Besides this quest is a stepping stone to better range slot items.

That better Item being the "beginner magic manual". Go buy/bake a Hobgoblin surprise and turn it and the book into Acomor Lothwol.

Just did the quest and got an item that looks like a necklace not the book, same stats though...
Probibly cause you have a skin loaded on your UI, it does that to quite a few items

Has anyone figured out the faction this actually modifies? I equipped it and got the usual indifferent from everyone I con'd in PoK. Useful in other planes perhaps?

If you identify it, then it should show what factions gets modified. It should work, I know for sure it works for the Haven Amulet, which is the Shadowhaven faction modifier.
Just did this quest with my level 5 bard (though it'll be long beofre he gets any use out of this, other than the 1ac 2cha!) and had an enchanter cast identify on me while I held it... got the message "This item gives positive faction with the inhabitants of Tanaan." Not sure if they meant New Tanaan, which it what the entire settlement in PoK is called, or just Tanaan, the neutral district of PoK. Likely this gives you enough of a faction boost to do quests in PoK the inhabitants won't even mention to you otherwise.
Now I have to do this quest with characters actually high enough to do the quests... wwhich I'm not even sure if my 46 monk can do yet. Time to get more xp in old world first...

Person posted on the page for this item's quest that some NPCs had more to say if you have this equipped, they give out more quests, go have a look.

Each NPC will need an item from the next until you get the book Agrakath is looking for. Then you must retrace your steps backwards till you get to Williama again. She will hand you the above listed item.

The book is on a 10 minute spawn timer (approximately).
Some of the mobs walk around so if they are not at the given location then check in the area for them.
