Berserkers equip this? No. Berserkers are restricted to 2-handed weapons, and this is a 1-handed blunt. It has nothing to do with when Berserkers were created. It's about the types of weapons they're allowed to use. 2-handed piercing was done away with, so the restriction that applies regarding piercing weapons is a bit more blurry. And of course, they can hand-to-hand, like everyone else.
I guess how the mobs con to you depends allot on your race and maybe class as I went to this place at level 13 and there were a few dark blue cons allot of light blue and green. Now at level 18 they are just about all green. I believe this is in large part to the race of the character I took there (Lins my Vah Shir BeastLord).
You probably know better by now but the con color system is based on the level difference between you and mobs.
For anybody that doesn't know already (everybody really should):
Green means that they are much lower level than you and you'll definitely kill them but you won't get exp
Blue means that they are only slightly lower level than you and you should be able to beat them.
White means that they are the same level as you and it's not certain you'll win
Yellow means they are one or two levels higher than you and there's a good chance they'll kill you
Red means that they are at least three levels higher than you and will most likely dominate you
(Light blue is between green and blue in difficulty but I didn't want to destroy the continuity of the post because the stupid color thing wasn't working.)
These are of course estimates and undercons and buffs usually edit this course slightly.
Yes, it's slightly (very) off-topic but I figure if some newb wanders through here wondering about Blackburrow and learns about the con system then I've done my job.
Ok..there is no way that a level 11 chanter can take the courier..just want to make that clear. i can finally take him and the lord out no problem at level 40 with my warrior...i havent fought him since 25 so i dont know really how it is in between..but i know hes a baddy. the courier spawns between 25-30 min, dont belive the hype about making him spawn either..he pops when hes ready so i suggest u have something to do for the next 20 min or so{show off ur twink weapons to newbs or whatever). what sux is the random drops..when u get the first 3 items off the courier u can kill him 5 or 6 times brfore you get the last piece witch really is boring in a zone with no xp besides the courier. the club is really cool looking once you get it tho. u can use it or sell it. ive seen it go for 500 plats in the bazarr. do what u want with it i guess. i like to take the final version of the gnoll slayer and the gnoll club down to splitpaw with my shammy friend and just beat on them for a while still getting xp at 40 with good risk involved.
So far just killed the courier once, and the tactician once. Got the key off the courier and the battleplans off the tactician. I suspect that all four items can drop off both mobs. Perhaps they're rarer drops off the tactician though, given he's a lower level, similar to the Master Brewer/gnoll brewer situation with Blackburrow Casks.
[edit] Ok, after a lot more kills, looks like the tactician only seems to be dropping the battleplans.
The battle plans are needed for a Qeynos Cleric quest.
The Invasion plans are the ones needed for the Club of Gnoll Bashing, and they drop off the gnoll courier. (At this point it feels like he's dropping noth ing but encryption keys and invasion plans.. but what the hey, I got time to waste =))

Posted:Mar 19 2003 at 5:21 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) When you came back to edit, you should have taken the time to wash the egg off of your face. The battle plans off of the tactician are for a Karana Cleric quest in S Qeynos. ALL the items for the quest to receive this club drop off of the Courier.
The courier ONLY spawns after the tactician (the ph) is killed. Believe it or not someone might actually be in the process of finishing the quest and just because you notice this high level spawn - DON'T KILL IT! It will con indifferent so its not like you need to attack the courier to save your life.
The courier will spawn at the exit to Qeynos Hills and wander his way down to the third level and despawn by the entrance to Jagged Pine. #2 on the Level Three map from eqatlas.com
The tactician seems to be on a 15-20 minute timer to respawn.
What are you talking about the courier is on a 25 to 30 minute spawn and is completely unrelated to the tactician also the only mob that needs to be killed to get the club is the courier
I would know i camped it for like 2 weeks and made some good cash from the club also always level 30 mob so don't believe level 17 people saying it is yellow hehe

Posted:Jan 03 2003 at 9:45 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) is it just me or does 12/28 suck? especially when you can get a gnoll slayer sword (same dmg/delay as wurmy) a lot easier? plus anyone who can kill the courier should already have better...
Well, I'm confused. You really think that it's easier to make a foray into Splitpaw and kill two lvl 35 mobs + their placeholders than it is to kill a single lvl 30 mob; possibly multiple times??? Not to mention being close enough to Lord Elgnub to snag him before his rapid depop so you can get the initial version of Gnoll Slayer.
I assume that you're talking about the final version of Gnoll Slayer which is 15/40 + 10 Gnoll bane.
Not everyone is able to use the Gnoll slayer, becuase it is 1 hand slash. ie Beastlords. Anyways it is a nice one hand blunt to use in Splitpaw or Iceclad if you so choose.
Yes, it's just you. The way I see this the thing to do is to get yourself to a point where you or your group can kill Elgnub (he harm touches in the 200 range, but only the once whenever I fought him, then all other attackes are melee). Take the baby back to Marton Sayer and get the GS Int. Use this in BB and on the courier to get the Club.
Of course I am speaking as a Ranger with dual wield and having the CoGB and GS Int in hand when questing the GS Final in Splitpaw is a pretty cost-effective way to be a dangerous consideration to those bleached-out dogs.
Maybe it was just a fluke, but tonight I killed a courier with the help of my crappy chanter pet. I'm only 11 and he conned yellow, so I think he's just been nerfed. And he did drop the invasion plans, I saw some people saying earlier that he doesn't.
Not a chance, I just fought him before i logged off tonight on a vengeance trip to BB. He con'ed dark blu to a 39 ranger and put up a decent fight. Well actually he didnt, but he tried really hard and thats what counts, got the encryption ring, im gonna complete the quest and give the club away as a twink. I like being a newbies hero.
Argh, I'm looking for a nice 1HB weapon for my lvl 24 Enchanter and this thing keeps coming up. I would love to have it but I fail to see hoe it can be a lvl 15 quest when the mob to kill is dark blue to a lvl 37 peep. This should probably be fixed.
BTW, if your on xev and looking to sell one of these look me up.
Ok, I just got this like 5 min ago, it's a great weap. I killed the gnoll courier, dark blue to a lvl 32 monkie btw, i think he's lvl 3, and i went to turn the items in. Rilca Leafrunner gave me the encryption key back, oh well, i guess the start of another one after i sell this one.
Maybe They might make a Second more powerful Club for those Clubers out their just my thought.
And it says lvl 15 quest .... no go ahead and try you lvl 15's you will die unless you have a full group. ______________________________ Club of Gnoll Bashing (Final)| NO drop Lore Primary seconday| 20/35 | Str+3 Dex+2 Agi+4 | Effect: Summon Companion | Charges: 2 | _____________________________| FAKE JUST MY THOUGHTS
Your crack pipe has been going too much as you appear to have the Gnoll Slayer and Club of Gnoll Bashing confused. Any way you slice it, equipping this club and and a gnoll slayer (dual wielders), will make Gnolls wet the floor like frightened puppies when you come to visit. Great for completing the second part of the Gnoll Slayer quest (GS (Final): 15/40, sv25+ Disease, 10+ Gnoll Bane, and 2 Summon charges) in Splitpaw.
The Courier drops all 4 items (each lore, no drop) needed for this quest. ALL FOUR ITEMS - Encryption Key, Area Maps, Invasion Plans, and Marching Orders.
No other mob is involved in this quest. I have done this quest numerous times and it takes patience for all items to drop (12 consecutive kills is nothing, try 16 to 20.. lol) but i can assure you they all come ONLY from the Courier.
I went into Blackburrow and killed the courier a dozen times. He only drops the key and the marching plans nothing else. I was wondering if anyone could tell me where the invasion plans and the Area maps drop. I have been hunting for these things for close to 4 months it would be nice to finally get the item =). well that is my story thank you for listening.
The Tactician drops the invasion plans. He's spawns close to the Elite ledge. As for the area map, it should drop off the courier. Thats where I got mine. Hope this helps you.
Yeah.. it caught me by suprise too... Was sitting at the entrance to Blackburrow chatting with a guildie when "A Gnoll Courier" spawned right there and immediatly took off out into the courtyard.. probabably would've kept running if I hadn't snared him - heh heh. I saw him and immediatly thought, "Oooh.. new quest MoB.. get screenshots and info". So myself and the 35 mage guildie I was sitting with (we were grouped) quickly dispactched him. I dinged 33 very much to my suprise (I had about one and a half blue notches until level - not bad exp for 32 and in a group) and did a shout to the effect of "Ding 33!" and everyone just laughed at me and told me to get a life... apparently they didn't believe me... pitty :( I took a screenshot of the loot (an "Encription Key" that looks like a gold ring encrusted with turquiose - it was LORE and NO DROP). About a half hour later (real time), another one popped in the same style, oddly enough, it /con'ed indifferent, but also dark blue to me now at 33 and my 35 mage guildie (we were grouped).. before I could hail it, some newbie attcked it... boy did he feel sorry... that thing waxed him in about four rounds of combat. I got off one heal durring that time, but all it did was make the courrier mad at me and it turned on me as soon as the newbie was dead - I had no choice but to dispatch him yet again :(. His loot this time was a rolled up parchment labeled "Marching Orders" wich was also LORE and NO DROP (got a screenshot of it as well).
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it :)

After almost 8 hours of camping the 30 minute courier spawn, I finally got the last of the 4 items needed. However, before I turn them in, I want to find out if an "apprehensive" con is good enough to turn them in and get the club, or if I should smoosh more gnolls until I am indifferent or better? I'd rather not go through another 8 hour boring camp :)
Not that I'm complaining, but I collected all four items, turned them in and got everything but the invasion plans back. Don't thinkl that was supposed to happen but I did get the club so it isn't a bad break. I don't know if Verant knows about this yet as I didn't report it.
Anyway, info on drop frequency is, from most to least common: Encryption Key, Invasion Plans, Marching Orders, Area Maps. Good Luck everyone.
What happened is someone else screwed up at some point and handed in everything EXCEPT the invasion plans (or multiple people handed in extra singles). So, you effectively multi-quested those parts, and since the NPC already had them, she didn't accept them again.
It's all part of the "NPCs won't accept what they don't want" code.
Got this item patch day... was too lazy to send it in though. ;) But I went into Blackburrow (after meeting the lady at the campfire next to SFG entrance) and found the entrance crawling with the gnoll couriers. They conned light blue to me at 45. I think at they were a broken spawn then because they just continously spawned one after the other and were eating me alive. Luckily two level 60s had wandered in (a tank and a wizard) and proceeded to lay waste to the little furballs. But... the more the killed, the more that spawned... I believe there were at least 30 corpses on the ground in a big pile from the AE and 10 or so running back and forth until eventualy the two could not take them anymore. I had to use a FD/loot tactic to survive long enough to pick my way through the corpses to get the 4 quest pieces. Needless to say I got everything and turned it in. She gave me 'i need all four blah blah' for the first 3 items (i handed them all in at once) and gave me the congrats msg for the fourth and the reward. Then I kicked the crap out of her... just for kicks... she isnt all that hard of a kill, i didnt finish. Decided not to take the faction hit. But she casts root i believe and heals... hits for around 80.
Anyway... gnolls... I dont tend to kill many of them... wonder how much someone would pay? ;)
this club is nice, planed to get it for my 36 ranger (pratice 1hb and it would be nice against the gnolls) or maybe just sell it.......BUT, the lady didt give it to me :( she asks for four things which come out of blackburrow, which i went and collected in a couple hours (i think its battle plans that drop off a gnoll tectition....he is found in the patroling gnoll room, the one with the little pond in the middle and the landing area for the tree trap.....the other 3 drop off a gnoll courier, it was indiff to me even though all other gnolls are scowl.....at lvl 36 all coned dark blue and none carried a weapon....each only carried one of the three things you need each time....they also droped 2 to 4pp.....i killed one, droped area maps, next one droped encryption key, next droped maps again, then the 4th droped the 3rd needed itme....cant remem if it was marching plans or invasion plans.....2 of them were found in that cave area on the earth bridge above the port to jagedpine....the first i killed was found coming down the ramp from outside...and the last was found coming down the small ramp near the small wood bridge by the brewer camp......all of the items were looted in a couple hours and not too hard)......ANYWAYS! i went out to the lady, handed her all 4 things, the correct things, made sure i had my charisma stuff on, checked the con and said she was an ally and hit give......"im sorry pemen i have no need of this" and 3 "you misunderstood, i need all 4 items".....all she gave back were the gnoll battle plans :(
SO BE WARNED THIS QUEST MIGHT NOT WORK!
Pemen Vonmuerta Officer of the Crusaders of Power 36th ranger of the path
by the way, the name pemen is not pronounced like ***** or seamen....it is pronounced like the country yemen.
"if we were warriors or paladins we would have a fancy celebration and plenty of feasting, but we are just rangers, with no time for pleasentries"
ah thank you very much....was thinking it might be that.....well we are all alowed a mistake or two arent we? but did i use those mistakes up already? oh well, thank you for info and thank you for posting so everyone else that reads your post will know the write things to turn in :)
lol i will have to have my ranger weild this with Gnoll slayer and go on a rampage all that bane damage those poor gnolls they wont know what hit them over and over and over again :P
