I looted these today off of "Binpral Rockfoot" a named grol baku. He was light blue to a level 60.

I'm pretty sure these are dropped by a named Grol Baku (he was in the Grol Baku cave and I think had an actual name, not like just Grol Baku Bodyguard, etc.). I got it right before one of those "LOG OUT NOW WORLD COMING DOWN" messages we all love, and forgot to write down the mob name.

No idea what they look like (probably nothing special), haven't given to my Ranger to wear yet (not sure if they are better than Tigeraptor Boots.. better AC but worse Stats - maybe keep in pack in case Ranger has to be Tank for some reason).

None of the other Baku aggored on me (56 DRU), but I killed him right in the cave and the damn shaman keep healing him so it wasted alot of mana.
Getting to the drop

Actually its fairly easy to get to Scarlet Desert To get this loot. Arrive at nexus, sow, go through Netherbian zone which is a 20-30 level zone that anyone can run through without getting lost as long as you run straight. A level 5 can run through with sow NP. The lag is there, but most of the time it isnt a problem, just remember Scarlet Desert has a lot of wandering mobs.

Also was wondering who drops these boots.

Sorry, but running from Nexus through Netherbian Lair takes you two places:

Dawnshroud Peaks or Marus Seru, and whilst it is theoretically possible to travel from Dawnshroud Peaks, through Griegs End into Scarlet Desert, it's not something I'd suggest a level 5 with SoW to try.

Going via Marus Seru is possible, but would additionally require you to transverse Mons Letalis and The Grey (an airless zone, so you'd need an Enduring Breath item or spell), then finally into Scarlet Desert.

The only other route to get to Scarlet Desert is to go Nexus > Echo Caverns > Fungus Grove > Twilight Sea > Scarlet Desert.

Click here to get a full showing of the Luclin zone connections at EQ Atlas.

There is another route, which is long but fairly safe for mid-levels (FG is VERY dangerous without fixed-duration invis):

Nexus/Bazaar/SH/PC/HM/GF/TM/Katta/Twilight/SD

That's about a 15-25 minute run depending on
how you do it. The longest legs are HM, GF, Katta and Twilight. The shortest are SH, Nexus and Bazaar, where you probably spend more time zoning than you do running.

Katta is what makes this route awful. Lev won't work in the zone and there's a nasty cliff-path you have to take. Not for the faint of heart or overly laggy.

Not sure if you knew this or not, but you can zone directly from Nexus to SH no need go through the bazaar first.

I think you just described how to get to Dawnshroud Peaks, not Scarlet Desert.

look over what he said again. He got it right, I've travelled that way many times. I've been to SD by every possible way.

In regards to lag:

I have occasional lag. Most of the time, zones are fine. Sometimes I'll get a 'bad load' or something, and Dawnshroud and Twilight Sea will be slow; but even then, most other zones are fine.

My system is a little higher-end though; 1.4Ghz, Geforce2 Pro, 512mb DDR RAM. The motherboard, CPU, and RAM will set you back about $400. My video card was $120 about a 8 months ago.

And yes, Scarlet Desert has some great loot.

Take a look at Dwarven Work Boots.
They more heavy than rocks, but better for a rog.

Dwarven work boots are a good deal for the price, and excellent low level boots, but even for a rogue, AC >> Stats.

If you don't believe this, take off some stat items and look at your damage. Or, look at how your damage changes when you get a str buff. It doesn't change by much. Your max might go up by 1-2 points, and your average up by the same, from a big buff. Then try taking off some armor, and see how much harder mobs hit on average, and how much more often they hit you for max. Even a little bit makes a big difference. When I stop into DL to kill some tigers at 53 (some are still blue), at 900ish AC, they can hardly hit me, and almost never for full. Back when I was exping here in the late 30s, at under 800ac, I was getting *pounded* by these things. About half the hits would be for full, and they would rarely miss me.

Edit: oh, yeah, awesome ranger boots, until you can get quest or barbed dragonscale.

How on earth could you even think that Dwarven Work Boots are in any way at all better than these?

A little LIGHT?

OK i thought rocks were supposed to be HEAVY. What the hell is going on?
RE: A little LIGHT?
# Mar 19 2002 at 7:45 PM Rating: Good
Perhaps they're boots specially made for the navigation of rocky terrain?

Anyways, an excellent pair of boots, especially for the non-plate classes. With stuff like this dropping there it's a wonder the Scarlet Desert isn't more frequented. I guess it'll be a while before eveyone realizes the Dreadlands suck.

The reason everyone hunts DL instead of SD is getting there. Assume your sitting in EC and decide to go xp hunting. Getting to DL takes 5 min. Getting to SD takes an hour and you're likely passing through DL on the way. I'd love to hunt the Luclin zones more, but without tps, it's just not time efficient.

There's more.... getting to Scarlet Desert from the Nexus involves travel through some VERY dangerous zones. Evil-aligned players wanting to avoid Katta (where they're KOS) have to go through Fungus Grove, a level 50+ zone! The alternate route for good-aligned characters via Grimling Forest and Tenebrous Mountains is no Sunday stroll in the park either. At least one can be bound in Katta, which is two zones away.
RE: A little LIGHT?
# Mar 20 2002 at 11:16 AM Rating: Default
Fungus grove is not a fun zone, but for evils, just get an invis and run through Katta. The zone isn't very populated on the way to TS, and many of my guildmates ran through it with no problems. I can see if invis went you would be in some deep crap...but like I said, path to TS is sparse with NPCs. If lev worked in Katta it would be *very* fast to run through...I would advis taking the Katta route, just bring along a friend that can invis you and you are good to go!
RE: A little LIGHT?
# Mar 20 2002 at 5:07 PM Rating: Default
The run through Fungus isn't bad at all. So far nothing I've run into sees invis. The shrooms and mutants are KOS but the bugs seem to be indif to everyone I've grouped with so far (admitidly all "good" races, but what would good/evil races matter for inteligent bugs?). So realy, you only need the invis for a short part of the journey. Get a sow in the Nexus and you can actualy make the run to Scarlet in about 20 min. (oh, and for those who can't invis, there is a path to run through Fungus where you'll make it if your at Sow speed or better and you'lll only train 1/4 of the zone. Not too suprizingly a warrior showed me this trick...)( btw, 20 min travel time included 30 sec zone times)

RE: A little LIGHT?
# Jul 06 2002 at 10:45 PM Rating: Decent
Generally speaking the lag isn't really all that bad, only zone I've noticed it in is Twilight Seas, but if you're laggin in Luclin its easy to fix, don't have your clip plane turned all the way up. With the clip plane down your lag should decrease 10 fold.

OMG You've not installed the addon because of hear-say?

Install it, have a look... Damn, just by installing the addon isn't going to make your game on Norrath any different, other than it will update your world textures and player textures. Both are optional.

You may find Luclin performs just as nicely for you, as it does for me, and countless other people (ok Dawnshroud Peaks forest is a slideshow of a zone - but then again, so is Warsliks Woods - damned trees).

Don't do yourself the dis-service of listening to nay-sayers and not trying it out for yourself..

LOL everyone complains about lag in luclin but nobody seems to have a problem with DL.
There is no zone in luclin that is any laggier than DL...the problem is getting anywhere....:(
