Bewildering Dementia

If you are killing the Potamides in their underwater lair and you agro one of these, kill them as quickly as you can! Otherwise they may cast Bewildering Dementia and you will find yourself teleported to the center of the zone. Not the worst thing that can happen, but having to run all the way back to the Potamide lair can get annoying after a couple of times!

a potamide temptress procs the spell Bewildering Dementia.

It's extra annoying when underwater as it will often bug and just move you to location 0, 0 in Jaggedpine.

A great way to hunt these is charm a Timber Griffon buff it up and keep your distance. Heal when needed.
Quest drop & spells

My druid dots landed on the temptresses ok.

I have hunted most of the potameid types extensively and found the best way to keep your distance from them when you want to stay in zone or break up a train is to cast sunbeam (blinding spell). It works on all but the matriarchs.

By the way has anyone who has killed these seen the quest drop for the druid armor?
Bah

Hmmm, well contrary to the experiences most of you seem to have with these, i hunted them quite a bit between lvl 54-57 , never had a problem outrunning them at all....
And my one and only DD spells which are cold based stuck at least 90+% of the time, so did Slow, and incapacitate, and my Poison based Dot...
Lvl 56-57 could solo 2-3 at a time..

I find JP to be one of the nicest zones in the game, rarely if ever crowded, looks good, ZERO framerate problems...smooth as silk...
They can see invisible

Mentioned elsewhere for the matriarch, these potameids can see invisible, and will aggro from a good distance off.

They are also immune to magic based attacks. Neither charm nor Fufil's chants (MR based dots) would land on them. And of course, they can not be slowed or snared either.
Running in JP

The person who made JP was apparently an absolute smuck. Because it's so filled with polygons (much worse than Luclin) your comp can't keep up and you couldn't outrun a snared ash hornet. Nothing to do with mob speed.
Also turn clipplane way down and lose a layer of sky or 2 and hunting here is fun.
these things don't run faster than sow.

I don't know why certain people have difficulty outrunning them with SOW. I'm a lvl 50 bard with the fastest running speed in the game and I can EASILY outrun them. Now I also have Jboots for zoning indoors and tried to outrun the wildlings/guardians/maidans and this temptress. Not only did I succeed in outrunning them, but Chant/kited them rather successfully through 2 levels (48-50) using the long lasting effect of Jboots and not having to twist in selo's.
Rarely got hit at all but the gaurdains seem to have an INSANELY high fire resist. Never landed one chant of flame in every instance I used it.

Dont know what the rest of your problems are but even the temptress was a push over.
Don't run, you'll only die tired.

My 56th lvl necro came across them and they are damn nasty. They ate my pet up like it was candy and came after me in a heart beat.

Darkness gets resisted a lot. So was a lot of my other dots. Fear sticks some of the time, but they run too damn fast for you to do much of anything.

And when they came after me, they out ran my JBoot SOW I had on. My only saving grace was that I FDed.
You are doomed

Hunting in JP the other day i ran across one of these being 59th level is no save haven from one of these. You can not root/snare them magic resistense is to high or they are just dont like it. I was able to gate but was left with only 2 hps when i landed.. Thank god for regen or i would have been dead.

Run as fast as Sow
# Jul 30 2002 at 3:22 PM Rating: Decent
Got jumped by 3 Potameid across the river, this is one of them.
Pet are lost for reason can't help me tank so I can land slow; when I realize they hit hard and fast...its already too late to run, and they run as fast as 55 Shaman's sow.
So if you are alone there and see more than one of them, either root them all and run/gate, don't try to run its useless.
