Writer's BlockFollow

Argh, the frustration. Spent the better part of tonight working on a couple of writing projects I have going. I started my first novel earlier this month and tonight was the first bout of writer's block I have had. I simply couldn't write anything that isn't ****** I have a new respect for writers, especially the good ones. Would anyone be willing to read excerpts of my book and give me feedback?

Which brings me to Eragon. Anyone finish it? Love it? Loathe it? What else are you reading right now? I am reading the biography of Chuck Barris (famed gameshow creator and alleged CIA operative) as well as Eragon, as well as learning Italian for my trip to Rome next month. What's on your bedside table? Skeeter, have you found your love for reading yet?

I just got around to reading Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. I can't read non-fiction for enjoyment, just seems like to much work.

I've recently broken through a bout of writer's block, and one thing I've found is that it just happens.

If you try too hard, nothing will seem right. Put it down, walk away from it for a while, and come back to it when the time is right.

I currently have two projects going, excluding a message board, and stories I've been working on for months.

I'm *always* writing.

I'm horrible at replying, so it might be a bit (hangs head in shame thinking of Merri and Angua) but I promise I will eventually get to it.

Music and other forms of distraction are excellent diversions and cures for writer's block.

Hey, didja get your tattoo yet?

No, not yet. My birthday isn't til May.

I won't be going to the TattooFest as I have company coming in the beginning of March and I'm starting a new job right after he leaves.

I'm half tempted to get one last piercing, but wanted the "bigness" of a tattoo instead.

Haven't quite gotten over my fear of needles. I just had some somewhat serious dentist stuff done, and I'm a bit put off by them at the moment.

Besides, I still haven't found the place I want it yet.

The PM system still works in the old forum boards, which are still up.

I dont get writers block so much as i get Writers Distraction. I can up with little exerpts (sp?) of stories, sometimes in the form of emotions for images (im primarily an artist, but i write my own stories, more of a graphic novel than a comic book). the main problem is these fragments are so diverse, putting them in a story that would work (let alone make sense) would require an act of god. And since only epic tales that span the ages of the characters will do, i cant settle for short stories.

Create three points randomly on a piece of paper. A circle can be transcribed so that each of the three points you just created are located somewhere on its circumference.

The same is true of writing. When you get stuck, create mindless tangents and then connect the dots. It's easier than you think. Don't believe me? Then how do you explain the success of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon?

I'm inclined to think that tangents don't actually exist, except in the strictest geometric sense of the word. Take advantage.

Tangets work, really. What's the worst that can happen as a result of trying my approach? You end up wasting a hour of time that would have been wasted trying, unsuccessfully, to overcome your writer's block. It's much like Edison's witticism: I haven't failed, I've found 10,000 ways that don't work.

I don't write in a professional capacity, and it's very unlikely that you've ever read anything I've written. I don't suffer from writer's block, I suffer from fear of rejection.

So when are you going to return the favor and show me what ya got?

I promise I'll be gentle and keep my criticisms constructive... unless, of course, your writing is better than my own. And in that case, I'll be forced to throw down, bit[i]ch!

LOL, "Name My Nuts." Sounds like an idea for a new game show on Fox.
