I almost shot someone today. And on purpose too. Being in the US Navy... I stand many watches. Today, I was at the end of the pier with an M14 freezing my nuts off. Joe Sixpack, the wannabe diver, decides that entering the 100 yard security zone around the base is a good idea. I'll give the guy some slack, he was underwater in the San Diego bay and that is some murky stuff, but still, know what I mean? Anyway, I spot him when he is about 80 yards out. This is bad, real bad. We are still at high alert here on base, and this guy is making me jumpy. I call over to one of the Military Police patrol boats that are always in the bay with my radio and they start trucking. By this time I have locked and loaded and pointing my weapon at the slighty chubby wetsuit clad individual swimming towards my post. I'm not Rambo or some Hollywood soldier, I have no clue what to do with this dude, but he got too close I was going to have to shoot him. Luckily, for the both of us, I don't feel like shooting somebody if I can help it, the Police got there before he entered my "Safety Zone". I'm not sure if that was entertaining to you, but it certainly was for me.
