Help! My new speakers don't make any noise!Follow

Did you try restarting it? :P

In all seriousness, did you have old 2.1 speakers or a USB headset plugged in? If so windows may be trying to put out to those sources. Do the speakers you bought have an independent volume control? Do you have HDMI hooked up trying to put out sound?

Right click the Speaker in the taskbar, choose Playback devices. Make sure your Sound drivers are set as the default. It should show you all your speaker outs like mine shows:



Configure = speaker setup (Like actual placement)
Set Default = Default speakers to choose If multiple are hooked up
Properties = Main Page has Jack info (Which colors are which channels), Has what your sound chipset supports, Tab 3 should be maxed, tab 4, Is built in EQ stuff

Otherwise check to make sure the speakers themselves are working, Plug the main Front speakers into your phone and play a song or something, Ipods/MP3 player, CD player anything small.

Last but not least see if there is a driver update?

Idk just taking shots in the dark.

If your hooking up through optical, make sure your speaker system has the right decoders.

Checked BIOS - HD audio was already on there.

Trying a driver update. My motherboard has a VIA chipset and they have a driver available. We'll see if it's the right thing...

And yes, I rebooted :P And yes, the speakers are all on.

The speakers themselves put out a faint whiff of static when I yank the volume up to max on the remote control, so they're getting power... they're just not getting a signal.

The default was set to S/PDIF or whatever that is. But the stuff on the back panel is pretty clearly 5.1. No other options show as plugged in.
