As the title states, win7 home premium crashes when trying to install DX11 with a kernal power error in the event log. Also, it crashes every 30 minutes or so with the same error when the PC is idle.
Win7 home premium (ran a startup fix from disk and found no issues)
8gb RAM (ran memtest and all 4 sticks passed)
Intel I5 (ran stress test for 30 minutes and no crashing)
GTX460 (tested with a different card but still got crashes)
Antec 1200wt PS (just replaced thinking that was the issue. it was not.)
I really don't want to do a fresh install but that is my next move.
Any thoughts??

Do you have the auxiliary power leads plugged into the card, and are you certian that run on the power supply is working? Alternativly, are you certain the fan on the video card is functional? A hard drop like that right at 3d Init is usually hardware, though not always. Is the windows 7 Aero interface (shiny transparent menues) working? Also, are you using any of those horrible never to be used power lead adaptors to go from 6 to 8 pin, etc? Those eat video cards.
It could also be sound or network. network, you would know about, but sound could be driver still.
Find a copy of bluescreenview and maybe post the exact memory registers and errors you are getting. Also is there anything odd in the system section under event viewer?
Might also be worth running speedfan and checking the HDD for smart errors, though I doubt thats the issue.

yes. this is a brand new antec 1200 from newegg that i recieved a week ago. I dont think its a video card issue at all because when i swapped out the 460 for a lower end video card that did not require additional power, it did the same thing.

Bluescreenview didn't find any dmp files associated with the crash, updated chipset/network drivers, PC crashes when trying to install sound drivers. Close to a wipe and reinstall......
Well, since Bugcheck is 0 and powerbuttontimestamp is also 0, we know that the machine is hardlocking instantly, and without time for it to even record a memory dump for us to diagnose.
It's still either drivers, hardware or the OS. It might be time to do a fresh installation unfortunatly. though running speedfan first to see if the HDD is intact might not be a bad move. You could also try uninstalling and reinstalling all your drivers, from add-remove programs, and checking to see if there are any old drivers from old hardware you might have had in the past still there. Also, see if there are any unknown devices in device mangler.

speedfantest quick eval on hard drive passed with no issues...
Western digital hdd diag quick test came back with no errors....

Issue solved. Found an article that advised me to disable c-state and speedstep in my BIOS. Once I did that, processor load went from 25% at idle to 1% at idle and no hard downs. Keep this in mind anyone who has an Intel proc. And this happens to you.
