Hi guys,
It is that time of the game where I get bored with battle jobs and start looking into crafting and gathering.
This happened to me about the same period of 2.0
Anyways, last time I got this bug I got several crafting jobs, miner and botanist to level 50.
It was very fun, and I did make a little gil.
Now that I'm looking into getting some of those to level 60, I'm thinking to myself, "what is gi good for in this game?"
I do enjoy leveling crafting and gathering jobs, but I just don't see the point of trying to make money.

Pretty much the same thing it's always been good for... you can buy gear, pets, a house, bardings, rare crafting items.... whole bunch of things. It depends what you're interested in and what's for sale. Browse the market board for a while, see if there's anything you'd like to have that costs absurd amounts of money.

If you're not a crafter, then gil comes in handy for decorating your house. You can also use it to buy rare materials for certain relic weapon stages.

Meh, I just throw it on the pile. The last time I bought anything substantial, I had come back from a break and needed to catch up on my iLevels a bit, so I picked up a few crafted pieces to the meet minimum I needed for the current 24 man raid. I honestly don't even try to make money, but I've made back more than I spent on that stuff and the pile keeps getting bigger. I'm just about to pass the 36 million mark and I honestly don't have a use for it.

Considering I'm sitting on 800 million now..nothing lol, I leveled my crafts so I can make my own gear and housing items. I have 3 maxed characters that covers most crafts and gathering so I never have to buy anything unless it's GC points.
Aside teleports and maybe readjusting a market from idiots (people who undercut by 300-700k a time) I think the only time I've spent gil in this game was to buy my houses.
Maybe in 3.5 there will be more gil uses, but for now..gil is fairly useless in this game when they toss everything you need at you unless, well, you raid.
