deleted accounts?Follow

Looking into older quests and some threads below an npc or item, all the accounts are marked as _DELsomething (deleted).
Last I played was about a year ago and never saw deleted accounts, was there a account purge or something? Thanks.

Due to Euro regulation, GDPR, all websites that do business internationally with euro countries needed to have a way where account owners could delete all their personal information from the account. So we made sure that each day that accounts that haven't been accessed in 7 years or more, have all their personal info + username stripped from the account and thus you see the usernames with DEL in the name.

I mostly enjoy the lower level aspect of the game and often rely on older entries under various quest threads. If these were to disappear then so would most of the relevance of ZAM...

I assumed that. But it's nice to see the names of the old-time posters. But even ANONYMOUS is more appealing than these clinical computer-generated names. It's great that the old posts remain, of course. I wonder what's the oldest post on the forums? I know I've seen many dated 2000. When did allakhazam even start the EQ section? Any idea what's the first post made on the EQ boards?

The EQ website used to have a page listing the oldest toons still active. I remember because my friend, who's long gone from the game now, had the oldest surviving toon on his server at one time.

Talk about derailing, anyone remember also when they used to maintain a page documenting every name change for characters? This was so you could find out if a PITA player on your server, or a scammer/trainer, whatever, changed his name to leave his past behind him.
