Ranger Tracking Skill upsFollow

I can't seem to get mine past 232/300.

I've tied it to the right turn key but nothing for over 2 hours. Been awhile since I played my ranger do I need to turn off auto update or close the window every time?

EDIT: Tabbed back into Everquest after posting this, turned right, 233/300...

Seriously RNG!?!
