This spell is a joke

This spell is a complete waste - why would anyone use it?

-300 damage for 5 ticks=1500 damage for 375 mana. This damage over time spell does not work with the spell damage increase effects on common cleric armor, i.e., Dakkamor's boots, which provide a (scaled) 45% damage increase for level 65+ magic based dd spells (all cleric nukes are magic based). This spell also does not work with the the Fury of Magic AA line (crit nukes) available to clerics. So, what the vast majority of clerics will get from using this spell (unless you have a rare focus item such as the ring that drops in the Ikkinz raid event) is exactly 1500 damage.

-Desolate Undead, the new 68 undead nuke, does 1560 base damage for 385 mana AND works with items such as Dakkamor's boots AND the Fury of Magic AA line. The net effect with AAs maxed is non-critting nukes averaging over 2k damage and crits over 3500 damage. For a whopping additional 10 mana, therefore, you get about an extra 33% regular damage and over double the damage every 5th or so cast when you crit.

The only real purpose for this entire line, beginning with the level 39 spell introduced in the Velious expansion, is to make a bunch of undead mobs unmezzable so you can wipe your group or raid.

I would have just deleted this spell when I received it from Karsor the Mad, but for the fact he would have given it to me again when I turned in my next 67 rune. It does not make me happy to spend hours farming to get a rune like this and be forced to accept this piece of crap spell as my "reward".

Your math is quite a bit off. Look at the spell info. It's not 300 damage per tick, it's 376. That's 1880 damage total, not 1500. So compared to the lvl 68 undead DD it's 320 more damage for slightly less mana and a shorter casting time. Obviously not a great spell but not as useless as you make it sound. And "magic damage" focus effects like the Muram's line will work on both DDs AND DOTs.

Have a look around. Almost every classes first lesser is a relatively weak spell. While the last couple are great. So stop ********* the good ones will come.

Well, since you mentioned Dakkamor's gear, that means you've probably seen https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=26530 or even http://www.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=29099 drop as well. By that standard, the damage per tick increases to 420 and 435 respectively. And as far as the mana cost goes, http://www.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=28312 could help with that. Which, since it drops in Uqua, would be feasable to have in addition to the other gear. Considering equipment like this, the spell isn't SOOOOO bad.

As far as the Critting aspect of the DD vs. DoT goes, you are right. It would be much better to cast the DD over this if you have that option, but as I have noticed, even in the high end, there are clerics out there that have not and will not put any AAs into nuking crits. So, for those that have not put the AAs into it, this spell could be better, and it also has a base cast time 1 second faster than the DD. Just my 2 cents

Nice thing that many may not have noticed, is that the murkgliders appear to be undead, at least in some zones.
