As of the September 13, 2004 patch this spell no longer costs 2 peridots to cast. Clerics rejoice.

Actually at the higher end game specifically those that are Time/GoD geared, stats are maxed. Which means that opens up buff slots. And since you get more HP out of Bo9+Symbol, this combo is used more often. However if you are recovering from a wipe and time is of the essence, HoV is more advatageous.
Group v2
# Apr 28 2004 at 4:26 AM Rating: Decent
I believe that v2 means it is a group buff that can be cast on another group should you have your "target other group buff" or tgb on. Simply target a member of that other group and cast.
HOV

There is an AA ability called Mass Group Buff.

Once you have earned this ability (It takes 9 points in class AAs to get), you can buff all within range, every time the timer resets (1 hour and 12 minutes).

To activate the AA, you type

/alt activate 35

You will get a message saying your next group buff will hit all within range. Then you cast this spell, and for up to double your normal mana cost, you buff everyone within spell range.

Group v2
# Mar 30 2004 at 9:46 PM Rating: Decent
Group v2 just means that it is a group spell. Im not sure why it says v2 ... maybe because it uses two peridots to cast it on your group. Heroic Bond also says Group v2 if im not mistaken

# Feb 13 2004 at 7:59 AM Rating: Decent
What does Group v2 mean in the spell discription? Does that mean it's an area of effect spell?
RE: group v2?
# Mar 27 2004 at 4:07 AM Rating: Decent
i think " v2" means that it's mgb able and/or group tier 2
Not great

when im in a Ldon or raid most ppl ask for a cleric/druid/shammy combo.. if u have ne of them classes in your group... the symbol buff n other buffs plus druid = more then hov + shammy = ova 2k hp alone
RE: Not great

Actually, for survival in melee combat, Virtue is better than Symbol/Bo9 because Virtue has far more AC to it. If mobs cast on you, that's a different matter. And do not forget that Bo9 has a mana regen attached to it. But on a warrior, bard, rogue or monk, always use Virtue instead (unless fighting mobs which cast AE DD spells).

Well, what you say WOULD arguably be true, IF clerics did not also have Ward of Gallantry.

HoV = 1405 hp 72ac

WoG = 54ac
SoK = 910hp
Bo9= ac32 and hp 618

SoK and Bo9 = 1528hp and 32 ac (still better than HoV in most cases {HP>AC})

SoK/Bo9/WoG = 1528hp and 86ac

Definitely better than HOV, UNLESS, you have so many buffs that the number of remaining buff slots becomes an issue. I know some DPS classes, prefer the extra slots for buffs like FA, SoT, SoP and other attack oriented buffs. Also can be a problem to use 3 slots for SoK/Bo9/WoG, if you need all your resists buffed.

The main advantage of HoV is the fact that ONE buff, provides ALMOST all the benefit of 3, and has a longer duration.

FOr short duration, single mob, encounters, use SoK/Bo9/WoG. for long, grind to the mob type raids, HoV speeds up buffing, and eliminates the need to rebuff as often. With SCR3/SCRM and Zephyr of Brell, my HoV lasts 4 hours and 32 minutes without being recast. That's the advantage.

Bot9 also has Mana Regen attached which is where the main benefit comes from. The multiple buffs vs hov. Also this benefits every class with Mana more, except clerics who have their self buff which essentially the same as bot9 only it stacks with their own buffs, plus has the Mana Regen. So clerics should just use their own buffs (use the single version hov, unless you like wasting Mana) on themselves and keep bot9 blocked.

Also do not forget Virtue on Pallys. According to what I have been told one of their self buffs will not stack with PoG.

absolutely true... Aura of the Crusader, and later Armor of the Champion (handily both acronyms are AoTC) does NOT stack with PotG, the reason for this is the mana regen component on each. Virtue (or now Conviction) will stack with AoTC nicely though

Uses 2 dots; the single target Virtue only uses 1.
