Is there an upgrade?

Well it seems there is alot of confusion over this item. I have been looking and wondering if there is an upgraded version of this effect?

Obviously people here are regurgitating fiction from other people (I bet these are the same people who believe Elvis was kidnapped by aliens cuz the TV said so) so I'm goin gto put you all into place.
Hardcap??
# Mar 16 2004 at 12:34 PM Rating: Default
I read a post somewhere that says that casting level is hardcapped at 65. Can anyone confirm or deny? Does this actually reduce resists and fizzles for a level 65 caster?

Brilliance of Ro raises Abjuration, Alteration, Conjuration, Divination, and Evocation by 20 skill levels, which reduces fizzles and, therefore, saves mana.

This effect is the upgrade to mods such as: Alteration +5%.

IE. Brillance of Ro will increase Alteration (235) to Alteration (255). Alteration +5% will increase Alteration (235) to Alteration (246).

How many times have clerics cursed after fizzling on Hand of Virtue; shamans after fizzling on Focus of the Seventh; druids fizzling on that final nuke that would empty out their spell bar and finish off their kill? Having this effect will *help* keep you happy.

Woot!
# Jul 03 2003 at 11:12 PM Rating: Good
Just got this last night. Wasnt sure if I should
have bid on it but was extreemly pleased to see
my spells have more effect afterwards. As an SK
Ive often hated the fact that Im really a necro
that cant cast so really happy that I have effectly countered that.

your spells have more effect in what ways? Less fizzles or less resists? Or both? Everyone is trying to figure out once and for all what this effect does.

ZOMBIEFIED you are wrong...This Focus increase your Effective Casting Level ;)
Lets say you are lvl.65 ... with this item your spells hit like you are lvl.85 :)

means... less resists, more full dmg hits... etc

Zombiefied is correct. Go to the spell search on this very site, and look up any spells with the word 'intellectual' in it. You will see 2 chanty spells. If you take the time to look at either of them, they increase effective casting level. These are fizzle reduction buffs, and this focus effect likewise reduces fizzles. Plain and simple.

EDIT: Well, he's mostly right. It's 20 points to the stat of effective casting level, not a 20% reduced chance to fizzle.

Have any information to back this up? I can't seem to find anywhere what exactly this focus effect does. It does, however, sound like the exact same thing enchanters get as a spell, just much improved, Intellectual Superiority, which is listed to improve effective casting Level by 6. If no one on that page seems to know for sure about the effects of the spell, how can you be so sure of this?

Also, by the sounds of things

Cast on you: Your mind sharpens.
Cast on other: Soandso 's mind sharpens.
Effect Fades: The intellectual advancement fades.

I don't see how sharpening your mind suggests casting at a higher lvl, just making spells easier to cast, without mistake (fizzle).. just imo

#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 09 2003 at 3:48 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) well... considering it's a worn effect and from people I know that have it, it basically increases the effectiveness as if you were higher lvl... a lot more crits, higher dmg, less resist etc... handy focus

Being Worn has nothing to do with what the spell/focus does, And enchanters with this same line of spells can't agree either, your friends thinking one way is no different then reading the posts about the spells enchanters get.

Lookin for Real info
