On Vox the pet no longer seems to have a timer, will last forever until killed. Really fun flavor item for rangers that want a companion besides merc.

i use this with my druid for extra dps ( i box 85 dru, 85 war )

The pet is cute, looks like whatever animal you targeted when summoning, hits for up to 168 or thereabouts. still a bit sad compared to any real pet class, but way better than the summoned bear pet.

Its a summoned pet, not a charmed pet. So when the spell wears off, the pet just poofs ( and someone cant break charm by casting dispell on your pet. ) Its hp are low, but not totally pathetic: I use the pet in the "safe passage" group mission for kithicor SoD progression; it can take a few hits from colonel thalan and his buddies.

If you dont like the refresh timer, just destroy the whistle and summon another one. The refresh time on the summon spell is very short.

the level of the animal you cast this on doesnt matter. Can cast it on a level 1 grey con snake, and get a light blue con pet. It only influence the way the pet looks.

Also, after zoning or evacing the pet tends to look like a bear to me ( brown grizzly type found in north karana ).

The pet will go away after a while. seems somewhat random, around 20 min, sometimes much longer.
DenMotherBear charmable?

Brown Bear Denmother ambled closer to the ranger. The woodelf ranger was scanning the Ocean Green Hills for Poachers, she had been alerted that some poacher might be in the area close to Black Burrow. She covered ground swiftly. Secure in her ability all ways scanning the far horizon. "Still none to be found" sitting a top a rock, Brown Bear Denmother under her feet. Oh know not that named in the zone at this time. Camo had dropped without the awareness of the busy ranger. Cons amiable? Looking down at her new friend she smiles.
Back to business, scan for poachers maybe she run to the pond and scan again. Brown Bear Denmother catches up to the woodelf ranger and rest its tired feet benigth the busy ranger. She looks at the named "Cant believe this follows me everywhere I go wont be able to use ARC arrow."
This new 81 spell gives me an idea. But that idea not work on that named, but Carve Whistle when target a brown bear or a gray wolf productes a pet at that level and i see an AC buff of some kind not sure, have fun with this spell.

Whistle vs Charm
# Jan 14 2009 at 12:56 PM Rating: Decent
Interesting spell, though I'm not sure I'd choose it over regular charm in solo'ing situations. In a group I can see a big advantage, where the pet isn't going to be the tank and if the animal sticks around and agros after it breaks it's not going to be that risky to the group since it's level is lower.

Maybe a merc/whistle pet combo would work nicely.

Would be nice to hear from someone who has seen the charm break and reports what happens. Does it poof, agro, walk away?

Does this animal attack you when the spell breaks?

Thanks,

Create a 5 charge Wooden Whistle. Target ANIMAL and discharge whistle (must be in close proximity to animal) And you'll wind up with a new "Pet" of the animal type you were using as the target. Mini version, dk Blue at 81. Not sure how long the pet lasts since I let him get eaten, but at least it's slightly better than the bear cub. lol

"Whistle Description: Use this whistle to commune with an animal in the wild. Calms the animals and encourages one of their kind to join you for a brief time."

Recast time is 20mins
Pet last about that long
pet is level 78
He hits allot harder and has allot more hps then the "little bear".
He does zone with you; however he will not listen to commands. He comes in handy when kitting for a bit of added dps.

Not sure if this is a bug or not but if you cast and the animal goes out of range it acts as though you cast and won't let you recast for another 20mins even though you didn't get a pet.

most spells are like this now.
They changed it a few months back. Before it seemed if you were in range at start of cast, spell would land no matter what. Now if a npc is walking away, and you start to cast at max range. It will act like it cast, but say oor, using the refresh timer. Thanks soe.
