Fletching

The Fletcher can make his own bows and arrows, both for personal use and for sale to other players

What is the best strategy to develop and use the fletching skill? Which recipes are the most and least useful? Can you make a profit off of this skill, and if so how? Where is the best city to practice your skill? What classes are best set to take up fletching?

Post your strategies on how to best use the fletching skill, and read those posted by others.

Ya, Im a bit confused
# Jun 10 2001 at 12:10 PM Rating: Default
Okay, so I have a fletching skill of 102 now.

I gave the next step by attempting to combine wood vane (which is called bundle of wooden vanes I believe) with a field point, large nock, and round cut. I bought a stack of each (getting expensive now) and then combined, however, it told me "These items can not combine in this container type!!" Or something like that

Please help me. I want to increase my skill

Second, is there a price on Rough Elm Hemp bows? I know 12pp is about the price for carved, but rough?

Thank you

i sell them for 10pp with a stack of class two bone point arrows included.
vanes=fletching
# Jun 10 2001 at 4:51 PM Rating: Default
Vanes are NOT shafts, they are fletching. The proper combine would be field point, large nock, wooden vane, and WOODEN SHAFT.

As for your prices, beats me. I'd say 12pp for a carved elm is a ripoff... but then, I sell low... that way they'll come back to buy a darkwood from me.

*grin*

Mebbe I'm daft, but NOWHERE on ANY of the pages I've been to does anyone discuss how/where to get started making BOWS!!

C'mon, monkeys can make the arrows and raise their skill (no offense monkeys, hehe), but how in the heck do ya start making bows? Is there a recipe/guide book somewheres?

My skill's around 80, and I'd love for my barb to start using his hand-made bow if he so chooses, but HOW HOW HOW BOW BOW BOW....

All meant in the best, no flames here..

Thanks!

How can I make a bow and how much lvl in the fletching skill is required for doing it?
RE: I need to know
# Jun 18 2001 at 12:10 PM Rating: Decent
You can make a rough hickory recurve bow for only a few gold and I believe that you can make it from level 1, because the difficulty to make it is 0. I make them all the time and sell them to anyone who foolishly uses a hunting bow, and I have never ever failed when making one.

At what fletching level should I try for making the Trueshot Longbow? I want to do the quest, but I dont want to waste my time and find out I couldnt do the Trueshot Longbow. Any ideas?

Is there a site out there that tells you what you should do after each arrow lvl gets trivial? I mean, what I should try to make next?

Well, I know that at 202, you should make attempts at the trueshot long bow and darkwood bows. I do not believe that arrors go anywhere past 202 triviality, yet I believe trueshot goes trivial at 230

It means that (unsurprisingly) the guide simply doesn't know. GUIDES are pretty much players just like you and me, who have volunteered thier time.

However, I believe it was stated some time ago Yak (guy in charge of tradeskills) stated that they were never in game.

im lvl 108 fletcher and i acomplished this with 200pp and 5hrs of work. at your lvl make wooden arrows except move to a medium nock instead of large. this will become trivial at lvl 32.after that u can move to a wooden large nock arrow with a parabolic fletching. when that becomes trivial at 46 do small wooden with a round fletch. after that stick to using small nocks they are very cheap and will increase the range of the arrow. in fletching u want to look 4 the lowest costing combinations when u are trying to increase your skill level. for instance after lvl 102 u have 2 choices u can do hooked ceramic arrows or u can do wooden wood vain arrows. the hooked ceramic arrows will cost u about 40pp when u get stacks of the components but if u get field points, wooden shafts, wood vains, and small nocks u can save almost 20pp when u buy the stacks of arrow components. if there is anyone that knows a cheaper way to increase you lvl above 102 other than wood vains plzz tell me.

Magic quiver = fleeting quiver?

Magic quiver = quiver of marr, lvl 53 mage summon, 50% weight reduction, probably high haste as presumably they are storing the haste as the weight redux.

and thunderhoof quiver, 33% weight reduction, drops of a centaur named something thunderhoof.

Increasing Fletching
# May 04 2001 at 3:34 AM Rating: Default
I have read alot of the message boards about increasing fletching, and have read the arguments on selling the arrows back to the npc and selling them to PC's. What I do when I want to increase my fletching is this. I go with a good amount of Platinum to start because when you get up around 82 and try for the next trivial at 102 your cost jumps dramaticly and gets quite pricy. What I do is make my arrows and I fill every slot I can until I run out of money. Well now the decision, run off and sell them, if you can. Or sell them to the NPC. Well I have decided that I am here and I want to get my fletching up as high as possible. I sell all my arrows back to the npc, and yea you take a kick in the pants here, but I then just turn around and do the process all over until the NPC's price drops for my class 3 arrows far enough to where even when I sell them back I still won't have enough to fill my quiver. I am at lev 13 and have gotten my fletching up to a skill of 96 right now and plan on going as high as I can as fast as I can using this technique.

Now if you want to make money instead then yes by all means make the trip all the way back to someplace where you stand a chance at selling your arrows, hopefully it's close by. I know Kelethin is the best place for this cause you can usually find a buyer at least 1-2 zones away. Good luck in selling them as well. I hope to make my trueshot someday, have tried seven times with no luck so far but I keep crossing my fingers :) well good luck fellow rangers hope to see you out there :)
Bowyering near Freeport
# May 03 2001 at 8:49 AM Rating: Decent
I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this question already, but is there anywhere to buy bow components near Freeport? I just made the trip from Qeynos to FP following a buddy for the first time, and didn't think to bring more than 2 bows to sell. Do I really have to go all the way back to Surefall? If so, is there a higher demand for bows and arrows in the FP area, because there isn't a steady supply of supplies?

But the boat trip is a pain....

Greeting Ichander! I too am a master Fletcher (176) and had a hell of a time finding supplies
near Freeport. Happily I have located Bow supplies closer then Surefall Glade! The bad news
is that its almost as far. Bow supplies can be purchased from Ulan Meadowgreen, a named centaur, in South Karana. He is in the Centaur village located at pos 120, neg 2200. Arrow supplies are closer to hand and can be found at Inn 3 in East Commons near
pos 980, pos 3760 merchant Joryd Longarms.

Hope this helps you out. Other locations can be found by following the links under the skills section to the Fletching Guide by Aoenla. Good luck to you fellow Ranger!

I started in Freeport myself and I took a trip to Fironia Vie. It's merely a few zones less than traveling to South Karana, 4 zones away if you're at the Freeport docks, but it is Incredibly safer (read:harmless) unless you fall in the water or stray beyond the Fironia Gates (found that one out the hard way). I took the trip as a LVL 9 character because I was hoping to get some nifty new weapons from Kunark w/o acutally going there, and I did, but by the time I got my shan 'tok, I was outta cash and food, but I did see a fletching kit and woods/supplies on the outpost.

There are several places where you can fletch. If your near Freeport and a 'lightie', you have three choices:
1. Go to Surefall Glade
2. Go to Kelethin
3. Get a Ogre or Troll to go buy you one (pay him the money for the kit, usually 1pp, and pay him a pp or two when he returns)

If your a 'darkie' you can just go get it yourself.

Good luck! =)

If you want to build skill don't beat aound the bush about it. There is a simple trick to building fletching skill through arrowmaking that will eventally get you to 202 where all arrows are trivial...after that it's either going to darkwood and trueshots to train (too expensive and time-consuming to be worthwhile). Try the following link, and check out Goppo's Quick and Dirty Guide to Fletching at http://www.idolsofthetribe.com/

Best of luck to you!
WOOT!

Hiya Yall!!!

After having a peek at this (and seeing the damage some of my friends were doing!) I decided at having a go at Fletching myself, also because i was sick of only doing 9 damage.

So I looked around at some shops in East Commons (I was hunting at Derv Camp in West Commons) and only found arropws parts! So i calmly trotted over to freeport. But Alas! I couldnt find on either. So i started asking some rangers.

Now they all said they bought theirs from Surefall Glade and Kelethin. Now, i am a paladin (of tunare) and started in Felwithe, but now i had travelled abroad to Antonica, and didnt feel like going home or paying for a port (i didnt have any dough! only like 5pp) so i went in search inland.

I heard of a Ranger guild in Kithicor forest and headed to it. Still no luck. So i went to Highold Keep and searched high and low (slaughtered by the gobbos twice!) and still no kit, only the occassional part.

Thats when i had the mad idea of walking to Surefall Glade!!!! Spending my remaining money on SoW's and guides (never been there before past HH) i finally made it to Queynos Hills.

I headed straight for Surefall (not before selling 4 stacks of bone chips for 8pp) and found the merchant selling the kits!!!

I was so overwhelmed with joy that i pledged to give any newbie rangers a free bow (when i had acquired the right skill level) and proceded in making my first batch of arrows.

Now, i am a Half Elf paladin, so only had 77 wis(magic ring) and 75 int. But i rapidly gained my levels. At around 15 i went LD, only to find a level 30 barbarian warrior starting fletching right next to me! We chatted while we fletched and i quickly gained lvls (with the help of Guild members and a lvl 19 beginner fletcher ranger)

I reached the lvl of 36 in only 20 minutes (not counting LD) and spent only 5pp, including the kit.

Now back to my previous thought, free bows, i quickly upgraded mine, a longbow and made several others. I walked out into the Hills and /ooc free bows to newbies, and gave them away! (with arrows of course, im not stupid)

SO for those starting a melee class that can use a bow, fletch, even if its for the arrows (which was why i wanted to start) or for bows/profit. Its up to you, but buy the kit's when you can (usually when you first start) you'll be happy you did.

Finally I'd like to thank the hordes of people who helped me on my way to Surefall (especially the Cyclops, Choon who chased me across one of the karana plains, thank god for sow and the barbarian fishers!)

Oh, yeah, dont forget clicking on the Ctrl when clicking on the materials when putting them in the kit to fletch, trust me, helps heaps.

Well enough of my senseless words for now, and good luck to all you fletchers!

Disappearing whitling knife
# Apr 27 2001 at 6:13 PM Rating: Default
I just made a shaped bow and the darned knife disappeared when I successfully combined - is this supposed to happen and does it also happen with a plaining tool? I didn't bother contacting a GM since it was only 2pp and I didn't have time to do so anyway.
As designed
# Apr 30 2001 at 6:11 PM Rating: Default
When you successfully use the tool, you lose it. Otherwise there would be no reason not to make the better bows, as they would cost the same amount.
Trueshot Bow
# Apr 27 2001 at 2:21 PM Rating: Default
i have made the trueshot bow twice with a skill score of 49 i might have been seriously lucky, but i did it,now my 12th lvl ranger has his own trueshot, i really wonder about the wis and int do anything for it, i raised my agility high and dex, with rings and earrings i had, i opened the bowyer book and sat and made the bow, once before one of the servers died and i was told it wouldnt be replaced because a crafted item doesnt get logged right away, so i had to redo my search for parts (while seriously PO'ed) because i didnt think i would ever be able to make it again because how lucky i got that time. well after completing the quests again i was again back in the ranger guild making it again and got it on my second try again at skill 49, so i really think there are different factors to it , i dont thing wis and int have any effect on it, in my experience raise your agility and dex ,keep that bowyer book open and try and i bet in a few shots you will have your bow.

i have a 120 fletching and seem to be all messed up about what to fletch everything i have tried is trivial except the hooked - ceramic - parabolic - small notch combo. is there an easier (if not cheaper combo) for me to make?
i would be appreciative of all comments anyone with info about using wire for fletching or a better combo for me please send e-mails to princesoxx@aol.com
