Blacksmithing

Blacksmiths have the ability to forge their own armor and weapons both for personal use and for sale to others.

What are the best strategies for developing and using the blacksmithing skill? What items are the most and least useful ones to forge? Which classes are best suited to take up this trade? Can you make a profit off of blacksmithing, and if so how? Which cities are the best places to practice your trade?

Post your strategies on how to best use and develop the blacksmithing skill, and read, rate and comment on those posted by others.

anyone know what componints it takes to make Yellow armor?
RE: Yellow Armor?
# Nov 13 2000 at 12:49 PM Rating: Default
i have heard that there IS yellow dye component. Is it crystallized sulpher?? i bought some off a merchant and am going to try it out. Also... i got an iron oxide of a FIRE ELEMENTAL in Najena... Camped Najena elementals for 6 hrs 2 days and got 2 dye components and anout 15 temper components (drops of mercury and swirling mists). Never saw one charcoal, but it was reported that lava rock did drop very very rarely off the fire elementals there. I still cannot solo freaking blazing elementals, however i found a sweet spot to camp them one i can.. I will report.

Dang, I thought I had the answer. I've seen pics of yellow armor. Since I already copied this from my notes, I include all my data from various sources on how to dye. Apparently no one has posted on yellow. closest would be orange I guess, from jackolantern fungus. Verant has been playing with tints and changing things, at least initially. One player reported 15 different cclors in his possession but gave zero info beyond that. Seems quite a stretch to believe a claim like that, perhaps he was counting the 3 different shades for each color.

Here are my notes:

Dying fine plate/steel armor:
This is OPTIONAL (thanks to Rooke Bonemender and Gorlim Shinbane of test server for initial information on dyes) Making dyes is a shaman and rogue only skill. You will need a high level (35+?) rogue or shaman who also has a skill of 52 in alchemy.

Buying needed components for dying fine plate/steel armor:
Resin: Steamfont 45, -615 Godbin Strumharp Med Qual Ore and Dye Materials Vendor, Middle Windmill, On vendor near bank in High Hold Keep. Stacks, 5250-7257c
Jar of Laquer: Steamfont 45, -615 Godbin Strumharp Med Qual Ore and Dye Materials Vendor, Middle Windmill, On vendor near bank in High Hold Keep. Does not stack, 105-145c
Jar of Acid: on vender near bank in High Hold Keep. 105-145c, does not stack
Empty vial: stacks, 210-290c
How to Dye & Stain (book): On vendor near bank in High Hold Keep. 105-145c

Dye component locations (dropped items): If you buy out vendor inventories in zones where these items drop you will likely find the needed components faster than hunting them. Auction for them, enlist the aid of your friends. Everyone with first hand experience reports these are rare drops.

Permafrost Crystals: blue verified by Hallkin, in Everfrost from ice goblins, a player reports 1 in 25-30 ice goblins. On the Shaman Disease and Poison Merchant in Overthere (probably left by a player?).

Evergreen Leaves: green verified by Hallkin, spawn on ground in greater Feydark, looks like little green chip, not foraged. One player reports searching for an hour for each one found. Potion Seller in Kelethin and in Overthere.

Sarcoscypha Fungus: red: verified by Hallkin, Fungus men in Innothule, drops in Unrest, Evil Shaman Herb seller in Innothule? and in Firona Vie. Reported: spawns on the groud in Faires camp in Lesser FD.
Pink is light pink now (3 resin, sarcoscypha fungus), not neon pink.

Russet Oxide: red, earth elementals in Najena, merchant by the Hole that sells Medium Quality Ore, and Fironia Vie (broken recipe?).

Jack o'Lantern Fungus: orange, scarecrows in west Karana, Dwarven Poison Merchant in Dagnor's Cauldron and Overthere. Reported that spawns on the groud in Faires camp in LesserFD.

Iron Oxide: brown, earth elementals in Najena, Steamfont, Gypsy Camp in Rathe Mountains and Overthere. (broken recipe?)
Drakn reports a few 30 kills of fire elementals of Najena. Tepxal reports from Stone and Iron Guardians in Nektolus Forest. Steam elementals in streamfont.

Charcoal: black, Mist elementals in East Commonlands in sandy areas, use see invisible to find, Gypsy Camp in Lavastorm and Overthere, earth elementals in steamfont, Najena. Clan brother, Tepxal, looted from Stone and Iron Guardians in Nektolus Forest. Drakn reports: East Commons none on several dozen kills of Air Elementals, Lavastorm Fire Elementals none on 30 kills, in spite of others reporting finding charcol on them. Seagul reports steam (elementals?) in steamfont by first hand observation. He reports 3 to 20 hours of hunting elementals yields only a few charcoals.

Misc info on Dye components and potential dye components:
Hornet pollen: Valius reports hornet pollen from BW looks like the other dyes, but does not work.
Accursed Paint: a dropped item sold by vendor in West Karanas (east end of zone) for 518c. Not known if dye component or not.
Blue fungus: Sorcha Stormseeker reports: I have found Blue Slumber Fungus in the Fairy Camp along with other Dye Components. Untried potential dye component.
Hallkin reports: There is a problem with making dark colors as the dark blue BP i saw looked grey and have heard the dark
red looked brown/purplish.
Gzar Zig Dog reports: I used dark blue dye (1 resin). Although when the armor was put on it looked almost light blue/gray. Was expecting it to look like lambent armor.
A player reports: curently has 15+ drops of different colors. Prices on veeshan run 5-40pp per color. He observes: remember the newbie you con today won’t sell you his stash tomorrow.

Sequence for making dyed armor:
Potter's Phase (this is trivial at pottery skill level 31)
1) Unfinished Medium Clay Jar: Block of Clay, Water, Medium Jar Sketch, combine on a Potter's Wheel. This is an item, fits inside other containers.
2) Finished Medium Clay Jar: Fire the Jar with a High Quality Firing Sheet, in a Kiln. This is a four slot container with a Combine button. Used in step 4.
Alchemist's/Poisoner's Phase (shaman/rogue only skills, I recall they need to be level 34 to even begin learning these skills)
3) Make dye extract: water, empty vial, dye components (see above for list). Empty Vial: you can buy these from vendor at High Hold Keep, the second mill in steamfont. Empty Vials are not the same as the pottery vials. They are stackable Each of the 6 components makes a unique color, that in later steps you combine with resin to affect darkness of color. The alchemist uses a medicine bag to do this.
4) Vial of dye: One dye extract and 1-3 resins (5250-7257c each). The Shaman or Rogue combines in the medium clay jar from Step 2, 1 resin gives dark color, 2 resins = medium color, 3 resins = light color.
Smithing Stage:
5) Make leather backings (tailor/sewing kit), make medium quality folded sheets of metal (regular forge, smith), make finished piece of armor (regular forge, smith).
6) Colored Plate: Finished piece of fine plate/steel armor, vial of dye (step 4 above), lacquer, jar of acid. Combine in regular forge. Gzar reports trivial below smith skill level 175, another anom player says that failure due to lack of skill returns undyed armor. Gzar had one failure on more than 26 (?) attempts at 176 smith skill.

There was a mix up in 2 of the color items, Iron Oxide is for Red and Russet Oxide is Brown, I made a Russet Oxidewith one Resin and it came out a dark Gold, I would assume that maybe 2 or 3 resins might make a yellow. But you know what happens when you assume :)

Chainmail Patterns and Seafarers

Going to have an attempt at forging some Seafarer's tonight and the one thing I really lack is the chainmail patterns indicated in the recipes. Where in Freeport can these patterns be bought, if anywhere? I am pretty sure I saw these for sale in Kelethin, but that seems a long way to go for Human-forged armor.

Until the last big patch there were no recipes for enchanted weapons.

Just read the blacksmithing recipes and/or look in equipment guide to read the info on the weapons your interested in.

I personally plan to make a magical weapon but the time it takes to create one versus the existing weapons is just for personal enjoyment. For example I could easily do the langsaxe quest a dozen times in the time it takes me to get the 3 of the 12 ingredients for an Antonion Emerald or Ruby longsword.

Here is my guess. If you are able to get (high enough level) the components to make an enchanted weapon then you probably have a better weapon than you are making. Therefore, why bother? If you are low level and can make this stuff then you are a twink and already have a better weapon. I can make these weapons also but I and all my friends and guildsmates have much better stuff.
My 2cp.
Thanks, but I'm no twink
# Nov 09 2000 at 12:24 PM Rating: Decent
The reason I want to make magic weapons is to be able to kill things that are invulnerable to regular stuff. I am not a twink, and since I am a tank, I need magic weapons to kill mobs all over the world. But thanks for the accusation, and remember just because you dont want to do somthing doesnt mean others dont also.
RE: Thanks, but I'm no twink

Awfully thin skin for a tank. Sorry if I hurt your feelings. However to clarify: It is very easy and cheap to get a magic weapon BEFORE you would be able to gather the supplies and get the skill to enchant your own weapons. Since you are a tank and can't enchant your own weapons you can't make them anyway. Therefore you are back to buying them. You want a magic weapon? Here are some good cheap ones: Langseax (20-30pp), BBC (50pp), SBH (50-60). And an Axe of Iron Back is a great weapon that I have seen for about 100pp.
Teir'Dal Adamantite Armor Prices

I'm interested in a set of this stuff purely for aesthetics... what can/should I expect to pay for it?

The full price listed on the Forging Chart lists the total cost as 1728.065 plat, but how many failures can I assume the smith to have (note that she was already wearing a set of this when I saw her, so a full set is obviously do-able for this smith)? I've got somebody trying to press a 10k pricetag on me for a full set, wondering if I'm being severely ripped off.

Thanks.

That stuff is so hard to get components for, I think any price that the smith asks, that you can afford is reasonable. See comments below though. Price is the buyers call. you are going to find very few sets for sale. All you can do is make a counter offer and see what happens, but the smith deserves a LOT for making the stuff.

Compare to prices of items with similar stats to decide fairness. If you like the looks, you pay a premium. Personally I think Verant made the components too hard to get for this armor to ever sell in any sort of quantity at any price. Only hope is that non smiths that get these drops, just give the components to their smith friends. (elf blood, temper components)

From stats I've seen plain adamatite chain and plate offer little over fine plate, dark elves can wear fine plate, and has similar stats, and lots of smiths all over are making it for 2000pp per set or a bit less. Prices will range for individual items starting at 10pp per ac for fine plate, with 2 sheet items, and especially 3 sheet items getting a premium (breastplates sell for 250pp each)

I have seen no stats on enchanted adamatite, though recipes are out there. they would certainly be an asset as I am sure the enhancements are nice and probably would comand a price of 10K per set.

I've seen one post for imbued chain mail adamanatite, no recipe, so someone is making it. This was the only data reported (below): Certainly a set of this would be worth 10pp I suspect, especially considering class limitations on armor with similar attributes.

I suspect smiths that have the money to experiment will be making imbued adamantite plate, though there are no known recipes for it. Dont expect any but the most alturistic to publish the recipies, heh!

Brillani writes: Regarding armor Imbued with the powers of Innoruuk's blessing. So far I have only seen stats on: Imbued Teir'Dal chainmail shirt: which were +5 wis, +5 int, +2 agi, +2 sv magic, AC14, caster wearable.

Go to Hold keep. vender is near the bank. Since no plate molds are sold there u have to go to where they are sold. I personally bind myself at the bank of neriak. I then fill 6 backpacks full of medium ore and fill two more on myself and then gate back to neriak. I normally make sure i pay for sow just before gating since it makes movement that much faster. then since encumbered i go just faster then a walk to the plate vender in 3rd gate and gate back to bank in commons zone of neriak and walk the short distance to the forge. From there it gets easier to move around cause i have room in bank and on self after first bunch

Hope that helps if your dark elf =) or can get to a bank/forge/plate mold combo to your city =)

Please don't forget to increase dexiterity. A created a shaman to be my blacksmith since the character had the best strength buffs of any class. I would cast the strength spell and use a fury spell to add strength. At level 9 I started my blacksmith training with str at 174. I laughed as I was able to go thru each skill level in 5 to 8 attempts. Things slowed down at 135 and at 168, I was thinking something was wrong when it took 20-30 attempts to make a level. So I finally got to level 175 and attempted bracers. I tried 4 bracers and had 4 failures. So I waited until I got my shaman up to level 14 for a 5 more str. I tried again. I tried 3 bracers and had 2 successes. I reviewed the new frenzy spell I had used and noticed that dex is increased also. Could it be that affects it also? So I asked a bard friend to use chant of battle to help me. Loaded up dexterity prior to working with fury gave 30 dex. I was feeling good that I was on the right track. I saved up and tried to make 3 breast plates 2 helments, 2 arms, 6 bracers. It worked great. Failed on only 1 arm. So before I start working at the forge, not only do I increase str but I increase dex too. It's my belief that a bard could increase dexterity to the same or close effect as high strength to help make Fine Plate. I will be doing tests later with a bard character of mine to prove the results. But for now, my shaman has some work to do.

Adamantite (dark elven) forging...

There seems to be a lack of info out there concerning the making of Teir'Dal chain and adamantite pieces. Especially those that are imbued with the powers of Innoruuk's blessing. Any info on stats and the manufacture of this armor would be appreciated. So far I have only seen stats on a Imbued Teir'Dal chainmail shirt, which were +5 wis, +5 int, +2 agi, +2 sv magic, AC14, caster wearable. Very promising. Oh, and any info on where to buy adamantite and which forge should be used would be greatly appreciated as well. Is the forge out front of Adamantite Armor, right as you enter through the left door passed the gatehouse in Neriak Commons "the Forge of Neriak"? Or is it just a normal forge?

Our race's forge and the Adamantite used within, are both in Neriak Third Gate. The Forge is just past the Bauble, in the formerly unused building. There is also a merchant there that sells small plate patterns as well. The adamantite itself is deep within Third Gate: Go past the building that sells the plate and houses the forge, hang a left, and follow the path to the tower, then turn right. In this building is a merchant that sells adamantite and chainmail patterns. I have yet to make any enchanted adamantite as of yet, as I have no blue diamonds. I will gladly post any info I find, either from myself and others, and donations are greatly appreciated, and well rewarded. By that, I mean that if someone on Quellious were to entrust me with Blue Diamonds/enchanted adamantite to further my research, I will give them the armor I smith from it, after I post my findings here, of course.

Chainmail plate would take the race specific forge. If that is wrong, close forge, reopen and you get components back.

What gem was used for imbued? I would guess saphire from the following listing:
Bertoxxulous: necromancer; black saphire
Brell Serilis: dwarves
Bristlebane Fizzlethorpe: bards, rogues; peridot
Cazic-Thule: Ikthar? amber
Erolissi Marr: paladins

Mithaniel marr: paladins; diamond
Prexux: fishers/sailors
Quellios: nomads
Rallos Zek: warriors; jade
Rodcet Nife: healers
Solusek Ro: wizards
Tribunal: warrior; ivory
Tunare: druids, rangers, elves
Veeshan: humans
Agnostics: can not wear imbued

When making tool boxes to skill up, these are choices and alternatives you have. go to my clan web site to see my full notes:

4A. Skill level 42-51 make tool boxes: (one metal bit, water). (trivial of 51 verified by Borrell 10/00) A tool box is an 8 slot container with a combine button. It is used by gnomes for tinkering. You are going to have run to a vendor to sell them as you make them one to three at a time as they do not fit inside other containers. They no longer can be sold at a major profit to vendors, vendors now pay back somewhat less than cost to make. Vendor buys them back for about 80c, with a metal bit costing about 200c to make. Net cost per successful attempt is 120c. Assuming 10 combines per level, and 50% success rate you cost will be 50pp more or less to get to level 51. (I have no personally verified data on this),

4B. Skill level 42-56 Cookie cutters: bits, cookie mold, water. mold (438c), 1 Metal bits (200c), water (13c) = 651c per attempt. Net loss 488c per attempt at 40% success rate at skill level 47 if you sell to venders. If you sell to players, 1620c would be your break-even point at these rates. Cookie cutters for 2 plat to the occassional buyer by my experience. Over 2 weeks of auctioning I found 3 cooks in Freeport interested, so don’t stock up on too many of these, like one at a time. Assuming above costs and overall 40% success rate, and 10 combines per level needed, and you sell back to vendors, you will need 140 combines, at 500c per combine roughly to skill 42 to 56 or 70pp.

4C. Skill level 42-56 Metal sheets: 2 small brick of ore (650c), water. (venders sell for 1295c, and cost 1340cc to make if this recipe correct. Venders buy for 774). There is probably no market as they are readily available to people needing them at less than your cost to make. Exception, if you are in HH, halfling smiths if around may snap these up to make small banded armor. Small molds are in Misty thicket, but closest sheets of metal for them are Qeynos Hills, or Freeport. Metal sheets can be considered a quick expensive route of skilling up. The only places I know to buy sheets of metal in Norath, are in Qeynos Hills and Freeport. So if you are smithing small size banded in Rivervale you will have to make your own metal sheets buying the bricks in High Hold Keep, other wise it just isn’t feasible as you have to make multiple trips over vast distances to Qeynos or Freeport. Potentially 140 combines to go from 42 to 56 skill, so about 70pp net cost potentially if you sell these back to vendors, otherwise you have potentially 70 sheets to use later for banded, major inventory storage problem though as they do not stack.

If you don't mind high intitial failure rates, lanterns a viable path at these skill levels also.

5A. Skill level 51-58 make Lanterns: bits(200c), lantern mold (181c), bottle(8c), water) (trivial of 58 confirmed post 9/00 patch by Borrell.) lantern casting molds sold in QH at cottage and at McDaniel’s Smokes. Get bottles at a taverns. In Halas, Leopok in bank has bottles. Greta Terrian outside of McDaniels has bottles for 6c. In East Freeport bottles are on second floor of chops and hops in south west corner of zone (the lower poor district reached via an obscure passage behind Felith and Bards imported Goods. It is quite tedious making lanterns with 4 components, and continually roaming around to restock the molds and bottles. Mysk reports 172 attempts skill 41 to 64 (7.4 combines per skill level). She is a high intelligence, high wisdom player. When I made lanterns I was experimenting with many other items so I do not have data to compare for a barbarian. Assuming 70 combines for level 51 to 58 cost to skill up is 28pp minus return on 70 successses (Borrell reports no failures skill level 51 to 58) selling back for 200c or 14pp, net cost 14pp. There is no point in selling these to players. They’d make fine gifts to newbies though, these are large lanterns by the way, a nice light source and they work just like the store bought kind.

I trained up to 21, sharpened rusty 2H slash to 27 and from there I made toolboxes out of 1 flask of water and 1 metal bit. Success rate was good all the way up to 51. I ve also done the traditional way with scalers and skewers with another char and it's a pain compared to toolboxes. Inexpensive too.

Heh, I didn't advocate tool boxes, I gave the data so each person can make their own choice. There are other routes, including the traditional that were posted a year ago, inspite of many trivil level changes, and cost changes that have occured since. Costs are so trivial compared to what it costs to level up after master is reached (100) that it all seems like a moot point to me, it is the agrevation of running zones and vendors that are the big issue. When you have little cash on hand though, it is critical to know potential costs of each choice. My data is from a barbarian viewpoint, and virtually every other race is going to experience lower costs.

It agrevates me that virtually no one gives data to back up their absolute reccomendations. When you have data, you suddenly realize you have choices, and those choices are going to be different for each smith.

Again, after you reach level 115, you have a big choice. Do you make make and sell banded at a profit, or do you just continue to pour money in skilling up. Depends on your cash resources. I made a fortune on banded, by selectively making items suitable for my skill level and not beyond. Here is success rate data to help this.

Success rates with less than 10 combines are very very misleading potentially. These numbers are from personal experience, unless otherwise indicated.
Success rates at skill level 102:
Gorgets and Bracers 90%
Boots 30%
Everything else, forget it.
Success rates at skill level 115-119
Gorgets and Bracers near 100%
Helm 5/6=90%
Belts 5/5=100%
Mask 5/7=70%
Boots 6/12=50%
Sleeves 8/15=50%
Mantels 1/5=20%.
Everything else (legs, cloaks, tunics, gloves) forget it.
Success Rates at skill level 125.
Boots 5/5=100%
Bracers 4/5=80% (Danni’s experience)
Mantels 4/4=100%
Helms 4/5=90% (Danni’s experience)
Mask 3/4=75%
Tunics (chest) 6/9=66%
Sleeves 3/5=60% (Danni’s experience)
Leggings 2/8=20% (my experience) 4/5=80% (Danni’s experience)
Cloaks (back) 0/4=0%
I suggest avoiding cloaks, leggings, gauntlets at this level.
Success Rates at skill level 129
Tunics 4/5 80%
Cloaks 3/5 60% (at skill level 130 had 0/5) (at skill level 131 Cloaks 2/3 66%)
Leggings 1/6 17% (at skill level 131 3.4=75%
I suggest avoiding leggings, gauntlets, perhaps cloaks
Success rates at skill level 136 You can reliably make everthing at tolerable failure rates.
Cloaks 5/6 83%
Leggings 5/6 83%
Success rates at skill level 141:
All items have sporadic failure, sometimes as many as 4 failures in a row, but highly unusual.
Skill level 145 Still 10% failures with cloaks, mantels, legs but everthing else failures are less than 5%.
Skill level 160: Still about 10% failure with legs, mantels, and getting several failures in a row on gauntlets on occasion.
Skill level 175: still fails 10% with cloaks.

Use 1 metal bit and 1 flask of water. This will take you into the 50s. Start in your 20s. Kida boring but it works and you don't lose much coin for it :) Then lanterns and then skewers to 115 after that I don't remember.

Fine Plate Pricing
# Nov 06 2000 at 2:42 PM Rating: Default
Does anyone know what a fair price to charge for Fine Plate is? I just started making the stuff and don't really have any guidelines. It appears to be worth between 10 and 20 pp per a.c., varying wildly from piece to piece. I wish I had a clearer idea of what the market generally demands, so that I'm not gouging anyone or being taken for a ride.

This is what I charge for FSP, for 1 sheet pieces 75PP, 2 sheet pieces 150PP and for 3 sheet pieces 250PP, I also charge if I have the dye component and do everything from getting the component made into a extract to making the Med Jar and combining the ingredents to dyeing the armor and extra 100PP. Hope that helps

I"m getting 10 to 15pp per ac.
For 3 sheet items I'm charging 250pp (chest), amd 200pp for legs. I am not getting any complaints, except from those that don't have even 100pp as usual.
10pp per ac is my bottom line, for one sheet items. For 2 sheet items I run 110 to 120 pp per item, I tend to charge lower for lower ac. Cheaper than that you court bankruptcy. The failures I experience seem to be with 3 and 2 sheet items. If you sell for this, you just need patience.

This is assuming you have skill level of 175 at least. It is foolish to make below that skill level, unless you are after a few specific items, as failure rates are going to be 20% or greater. At skill level 175 my personal failure rate on over 25 combines is less than 10%, which is consistent with what other players are reporting.

I agree with these pricings. I've had a few people complain deeply about the pricing of FP. I just explain the cost going into the manufacture (i.e. around 21pp per MQ ore, mold cost, not to mention getting the pelt, silk thread, etc.). Aside from the simple cost factor is the time spent gathering materials (if you're making to order, most likely you will have to do some travelling to obtain some of the pieces you need), and the time, money, and effort it costs to get your skill up high enough that you can attempt to make armor with a reasonable rate of success. If the market wouldn't bear these costs, we couldn't charge them.
Hmm.

My friend, (level 49 monk) said in Faymart that he saw sets of uncolored fs armor going for about 2.3K to 3K depending. Not sure if that gives you any idea. But i'd say it's well worth it. Making those darned metal bits for six years sucks dooty.

75p per sheet is high in my opinion.

I charge 50p for 1 sheet items. 120 or so for 2 sheet items and 190 for 3 sheet items.

The basic rules for old trade skills was to sell at 2x what the components cost.

the first to trivial is gorgets....soon as i hit 182 skill they went trivial. I'm working bracers now and at 184 and still not trivial. then i'm gonna see if visors still give skill since they are not trivial at 184 skill either.

Only reported trivials so far on this board are for one sheet items, and is around 180, 181. Success rates are good enough for all items, if you are really money tight, avoid 3 sheet items. If you price correctly though, your money tight days are now GONE GONE GONE.

Broken Recipe or Forge?

Tried to make an Antonion Long Sword in the Royal Qeynos Forge yesterday.

Used (1) Folded Med. Quality Sheet, (1) Long Blade Mold (1) Pommel Mold (1) Hilt Mold & (1) flask of water. This is the recipe located on this board and checked componets 3 times for accuracy.

Result: Message that these items won't combine, try in another forge.

I did that and got the fustrating message of items didn't combine to create anything. Any ideas or do I need to wait for next patch to un-nerf?

Royal Temper Question and some infos

Question: Where is the recipe for Royal Temper located ingame?

I ask this because I have received Essence of Sunlight from Chromodrakes in Skyfire. Everything I have read seems to indicate that you need Essence of Sunshine, which drops off SG's. I would like to check the wording ingame of what the recipe calls for. (I have not looted Essence of Sunshine off an SG because they last all of 2 minutes on my server, while chromodrakes are much more plentiful)

I really don't want to try to combine my Rain Water (not a tough camp, kill the Gnolls in Lake Rathe at the SK zone, seemed to drop only off Gnoll Guards), my Griffenne blood (got 4 of these after camping them in NK for 14 hours... pain in my ****** and the Essence of Sunlights (chromo drop) I have because I really don't want to camp griffennes anymore then I have to.

Any info appreciated, thanks.

...and it worked.

So, for Royal Temper:
Rain Water - Gnoll wimps in Lake Rathe
Griffenne Blood - Griffennes, griffennes, and more griffennes...
Essence of Sunshine(Sunlight) - SG's or Chromo's

Note: Tempers are trivial at 135 brewing.

Chain mail is implimented for several races, but not all. What race are you? Check out Allakhazam's web links, recipes laid out very very nicely for race specific armor that exists so far. Some of the recipes have links to stats, but that is extremely patchy. Naming is sometimes very confusing. Also, if you scan down a few posts, I've been pulling together information from various sources so it is all in one place for a specific race smith. imbued dwarven armor continued
# Nov 03 2000 at 12:59 PM Rating: Default
Hello, to save new-comers the confusion of looking through the past month or so of smithing posts, especially the ones that do not concern us dwarves, i will post all the info that i have concerning advanced smithing atm.

Beginning at skill 150 (to get here, check out one of allakazam's posted guides to smithing):
let me begin by saying that there are 4 important parameters that govern smithing "success", and one should understand them all in order to make the decision of which path to choose beyond 150.

Intelligence: defines the rate at which you "skill up". The skill-up does not seem to be dependant upon whether you successfully created an item or not, rather what your intelligence was and the difficulty level of the item being smithed. In other words, if your goal is simply skilling, not creating, this skill is important. To me skilling is not as important as creating which i will explain later. (my int a mere 63)

Wisdom/Strength: Determines the success rate of the item being successfully created. I have heard contradicting reports about whether str plays a role in this... but it does seem to. In other words, i was buffing my strength on every attempt just to be safe. At skill 165 or so, i hardly ever ( less than 5 %) failed at smithing banded cloaks, which was part of my strategy.... see charisma next. (my wisdom 169, str (buffed... around 150)

Charisma: Determines prices (along with faction) you will get buying and selling to/from merchants. Dwarves inherently have terrible charisma... so i set out to change this :) I think garnering charisma is one of the most underrated and important facets of everquest!!! I cannot believe i didn't take charisma seriously for so long. After purchasing 2 +7 charisma bracers(40pp for pair), 2 +7 char rings (150 for pair), 1 crude stein (+15 char, 30pp), 2 oppaline earrings (50pp pair), and a silly +3 char necklace(2pp), i now have a charisma when i sell/buy of 101. I.e I HARLDY LOSE MONEY MAKING BANDED CLOAKS AND SELLING TO VENDOR and occassionally player. And more importnatly and applicable to all, i sell for about 40% higher to merchants now!!! that is a huge difference folks. I have allready paid for all these charisma items and then some.

Strategy: So armed with this knowledge, I would don my +wisdom gear and str buffs for smithing... and don charisma items when selling/buying. I went from skill 151 to skill 175 (max for banded armor) in about 6 hours or so (2 playing sessions) and only 100pp or so, smithing only banded cloaks :) I would smith about 10-15 cloaks then skill ups seemed to come in bunches. i prolly averaged a skill-up every 10 attempts or so... but who cares i was hardly losing money so skill-up rate was of no concern.

Advanced smithing: ABOVE 175:::
here is some compiled info about smithing imbued dwarven.
1.) Do NOT ATTEMPT BELOW SKILL 175 (prolly below 185 lol)- this is because the components are very rare and at this stage very expensive.
2.) The recipes posted at this web-site for racial armor are great but missing one key bit of info:
That is the fact that imbued armor cannot be made without ENCHANTING THE BRELLIUM!!!! Now comes the confusion, "how does one do this"? So far it seems you need a very rare gem called jacinth (for dwarven imbued) which is only dropped in Old Seb and the planes (yes, that sucks much ***, i know). To further alienate smith's under level 50, it seems you need 1 gem per sheet of brellium or one gem per ore to make brellium sheets, this i am unsure of :( Either way it is going to be very expensive if you can't get them yourself. Also, I think you need an enchanter to do this for you, with a LEVEL 49 spell!!!! So far i have heard that the gems sell for anywhere between 400 and 1000pp a pop, but i have yet to even find someone willing to sell or even has for that matter.

Well i hope this helps someone, and thanks to all who have helped me with posts in the past. Good luck, and may Brell be with you.

Are you sure WIS and STR don't affect skill increases in the same way as INT? I remember a while ago there was a huge debate about this for jewelry and the conclusion (supported by VI's statements) was that nothing modified success rate but your skill. Unless the recent trade skill upgrade has changed this, I believe this to be still true for all trade skills.

My compilation of Allakhazam info, my notes, all in one easy to use text file, with notes on how to get and make all components.

HUMAN IN QEYNOS
The following recipes must be combined by a Human in the Royal Qeynos Forge: Plaza with clock tower in South Qeynos.

Component recipes and sources:
Royal temper: combine in brew barrel with brewing skill: rain water (gnolls in Paw), griffenes blood, 2 drops sunshine. (sand giants in oasis)
Chain Jointing: Metal Ring + file + smithy hammer + water. Cost 813c
Metal Rings: water, large brick ore (small brick is error), file (combine in racial forge, in regular forge this will give steel boning)
Leather backing (padding): tailor skill trivial at 30, combine in sewing kit: silk thread, LQ wolf/bear/or cat pelt. Stacks.
Enchanted metal bars: Metal bars sold at jewelry shops. You choose one type of metal, get it enchanted. Cost data for the armor does not include the enchanted metal. You will have to pay an enchanter to get the metal enchanted. It uses up all their mana to enchant 3 bars, so this is a very time consuming process. Vendor prices: Silver is 525c, Electrum 2.6pp, Gold 11pp, Platinum 105pp. Enchant Silver is a level 8 spell, enchant electrum is level 16, enchant gold is level 24. I do not know the level for enchant platinum. High charisma can give huge cost savings. On west coast of Norath, this would be Ironforge Estates in North Qeynos. ENCHANTED SILVER-ELECTRUM-GOLD-PLAT FULL PLATE
Class: BRD SHD WAR CLR PAL. Race: Human Barb Erudite Halfelf. The bars of metal need to be enchanted, along with the High Quality folded sheet metal. Otherwise the recipes are the same as for full plate. For full plate armor the cost of metal bar needs to be added to cost estimates noted on the recipe. Can be forged with any enchanted metal bar, silver electrum gold and platinum. Each has a different stat. It seems the success rate on full plate is at minimum 5:1 at 200+ skill.

Ok I know how it is supposed to work but where do I find those damn Evergreen Leaves?

I have heard they are lying on the group in Greater Faydark but after running around in GF for two hours I did not find a single leave.

Where can those be foun?

G fay is correct. They are rare, and difficult to find. However, they are often auctioned for sale by those that find them. I would suggest auctioning to buy them. I don't know how much they cost though, sorry.
