I have been drinking since birth of each of my characters and they do help regain mana. When I get the message of being OOM I take a drink and cast again. I also keep a note of what my INT is when I stop swaying. This keeps me from swaying in a s**t storm, I can still fight after drinking 4-5 Minitaur Hero's Brews. The higher your AT the less your stats drop, but the stronger your drinks need to be. ALL my characters drink, the effects will help in their on way once your get the tolerance high enough.

Someone mentioned before that when it lowers your INT and WIS that it lowers your mana pool. That makes since...BUT...as another post says they tried it sober and after drinking. The same amount of spells can be cast.

Dont forget when you drink your INT and WIS drops while your STA and HP go up. And as your Alcohol tolerance raises the less of a drop occurs.

For me its just like any other skill, I raise it to the current cap and wait for Verant to nerf or add a new reason to use the skill.

So what are you saying? No need for mana. Just carry a ton of booze around and drink a drink cast a spell, drink a drink cast a spell?

I don't think so!

I do not believe the alcohol tolerance is supposed to allow a tank to fight better in combat. The loss of Dex, AC, and ATK are too great. However, the Str and Sta boost does have one noticable effect. After a hunting trip I would down whatever bottles I had scrounged up from the local MOBs, figuring that the long run back to sell would be amble time to sober me up. Now my tolerance is still pretty low (2 drink drunk). When I put 4 of them down my Int and Wis were close to 10. My Str and Sta both went up at least 10 and, dispite the poor vision and staggering, I noticed that I was "flying" down the road. With the increased stats come increased speed. I could run fast, and forever. The benifit of this skill allows you to increase your speed for long runs, and it compliments other movement spells like SOW. I have not tried it while running for my life, but it might be worth a try, keeping some alchy handy incase the fight turns bad and I gotta run. But if you ever have a long run ahead of you, get trashed and you will get there in no time. And the staggering, that just makes it easier to dodge trees.

lol i always thought it justed looked faster because it was like a fish eye lens??
And I notice the lower to the groud you are the faster things seem to move??
ohh and another one things move slow when they far away some reason and fast when they close lol..
the point im trying to make is that when drunk your view shifts so bottow of screen points down to ground so of course it makes you seem like your running fast. or if my limited knowledge is wrong yeah it would be awesome to get wasted and run like the wind lol.Well dont let me spoil you way to gain skill level if everyone thought this there would be major boost im my brewing shop : ) well good luck

Yes, this only makes you appear to run faster by stretching everything out. If you look straight down you will notice that everything still moves as normal... minus it being about 10 feet tall.

It's really fun looking down and jumping off stairs, it seems like such a huge height.

I think I'm going to get drunk and jump off the top of Highkeep while looking down, that sounds like a jolly good time.

Bah whats this talk about sta and str boost? You ask why we warriors drink beer? Its to celabrate of course. I have had the max skill for my level for a while. nothing comapares to running on the bridges in GaFay while intoxacated what joy it brings when it says "you have been hit for 600 by non melie damage" (cant realy remember exactly what it says).

Im a level 40 warrior with an alcohol tolerance skill of 166 at the moment. It is true that there is a brief gain in both STR and AGI and also an accompanying loss of WIS and INT. Wis and INT are not important at all to tanks during battle, however, there is a huge loss in both AC and ATK. It seems the only thing raising this skill does in allow me to drink more without getting drunk, but even sober there is an unacceptable AC loss. Unless 166 is just not high enough a skill, which I doubt, I dont see any real benefit to this skill and drinking alchol in general except for roleplaying options it presents. Somebody with a capped skill may provide more insight.

I'm not too sure but I think having a higher alcohol tolerence lessens the affect it has on intelligence and wisdom. That way you can get the STR benefit without it costing too much wis/int.

Waaaaay back when I first started playing my Troll shammy a high level char told me that drinking right before you sat down to med would increase the speed in which you gained mana. It was a poor man's "Clarity", as it were. If there was not an Enchanter to cast a mana spell on you and you were either solo or the caster in a group you could slug down a beer or two and get your mana back quicker.

It did seem to work, but truthfully I don't know if it was a graphics kind of thing or it actually gave you your magic back faster. Later, I quit using this technique since I generally grouped with a 'Chanter, so I can't say whether or not it works anymore with all the patches that have come out. The trick was to drink just enough so that when your mana bar was full you could stand up without being tipsy or staggering back and forth which interrupted your casting of a spell. It also had the added benefit of giving you STA for hand-to-gland fighting (or with weapons) with the monsters.

In fact, this is still the main reason anybody drinks in-game as far as I know. Warriors get a brief stat boost from the consumption of alcohol and *supposedly* getting good at chugging made you able to consume more which in turn gave you more strength and stamina. However, I think this last bit was just rumor and never actually made it into the game.

This is what I know of the Alcohol Consumption skill.

Actually, what is happening is that the alcoholic beverage temporarily lowers your INT and WIS stat, which temporarily lowers your maximum available mana. It appears you get mana back faster but the truth is that you only have less mana to regenerate. When the effects of the alcohol wear off you can then get back the rest of your mana.

this makes sense to me...i remember when i first got the ability to cast spells, it didn't take but a couple minutes to med back to full. now, it takes me a lot longer cuz i have that much more mana to get back..

Hmmmmm.
Makes sense. It did seem, however, that once I stood up sober with a full mana bar that my casting ability was not impaired by a smaller pool of available magic. I recall testing this by chain casting a small spell on myself when sober and after Miller-medding. Both techniques ended with the same number of spells being cast before I ran out of mana.

Maybe it worked until Verant patched it at some point? Could have happened...

They do say that that works differently for good / evil characters. I have several times heard shadow knights, dark elves, etc. get away with it as you tested. Decent law-abiding folk do NOT, sorry.
