unfortunatly this is about the going price as peole jack up the price of the components required to make it. OR they take forever to farm
Does the fact that this is a 'collapsed spit' mean that I can put it into a backpack? When I open it up, do I have to have an inventory slot free, or can I open it from the backpack?

Yes, it will fit in a backpack.
Yes, you have to have an open bag slot when you click on it.
It summons a full size spit that is no drop even though the item itself is not no drop. That means if someone needs a spit you can loan them the item, They can summon a no drop spit then give the item back. When you are done and distroy the spit make sure you dont destroy the item instead by accident.
