This is a kill task that begins with Meps Muddytoe in the Heart of Fear (The Epicenter) at location -710, -210, -513 (at the southeastern entrance; findable with CTRL+F).

You say, 'Hail, Meps Muddytoe'

Meps Muddytoe weeps quietly with his head hung low. The teary-eyed halfling lifts a hand to shoo you away, 'Just leave me alone! I'd rather be eaten alive by spinechillers than spend another day without my adventuring partner, Bertle! I told him if he got too close to the [crystal], it would probably just swallow him up, but did he listen to me? No. Did he ever?' Meps continues to sob.

You say, 'What crystal?'

Meps Muddytoe lifts his head up to stare at you in disbelief, 'Have you not looked around, _____? The crystal abominations are everywhere! They harbor growing creatures of fear, and now, I'm sure they harbor Bertle as well!' Meps sniffles, 'Maybe you could break a few of them open and [search] for my partner?'

You say, 'I'll search for him'

Meps Muddytoe wipes his nose with his sleeve before thanking you. 'Just check a few for me, please. It'll make me feel better to know that someone braver than me is out there looking for Bertle.'

You have been assigned the task 'Encased in Crystal'.

Meps is convinced that his adventuring partner got encased in one of the many gestation crystals within the Epicenter. He's asked you to break them open in search of Bertle, and kill whatever you find inside.

Destroy gestation crystals and the creatures that break free of them 0/8 (Heart of Fear: The Epicenter)

Gestation crystals are found throughout the zones. Destroy them, and then kill the newly formed mobs.
