Speak with Seilaen in the Plane of Nightmares. She is located at +1145, +1289.

You say, 'Hail, Seilaen'

Seilaen looks at you with eyes wide with fear. 'Who.. who are you? You.. You must help me!

You say, 'I will help you.'

Seilaen says 'The forest, it.. I can feel it looking at me.. following me! Oh, I just want to leave and go!'

Seilaen says 'I don't know what it could be, I was just walking home and.. and.. this doesn't look like the forest near my home at all! Oh, and I am wearing my mother's Locket of Escape.. but it won't work for me!'

You say, 'What locket of escape?'

Seilaen says 'My mother always carried this with her. I have no idea why I suddenly have it. Perhaps I can make it work for you, if you want me to?'

You say, 'I want you to.'

Seilaen says, 'Oh it worked! Are you still here? Oh, please, don't have left me. Come tell me you are still here!'

You are ported to the top of the plateau.

Seilaen says 'Hmm.. It doesn't seem to want to work. Do you see Deyid?'

You say, 'I see Deyid.'

Seilaen says 'Ohh, that must be what is causing all this trouble! You all seem so brave. Maybe if you chop down Deyid the Twisted I will be able to go home? Will you please? If you have gathered together and are prepared, have your leaders step forward and tell me their readiness. Mother's Locket doesn't seem as bright as it was before. I fear I can only use it but a couple more times.'

You say, 'We are ready.'

Saying this triggers a gate of your group to the rocky, round plateau above and behind Seilaen. Deyid the Twisted is a massive treant positioned in the center. It's KOS, but not within aggro range of the port-up point.

Deyid the Twisted issues a deep rumbling laugh as his branches descend to club the life from you.

Deyid the Twisted scowls at you, ready to attack -- what would you like your tombstone to say?

During the fight, Deyid will summon a ring of Corrupt Treants, which will be upon the raiders by the time they're done dispatching the over-con Deyid. Both Deyid and the Corrupt Treants summon. There may be anywhere from 6-12 treant adds.

Upon killing Deyid:

An eerie silence settles onto the forest as Deyid the Twisted slumps over, defeated.

Seilaen shouts 'Oh thank you! Thank you! I don't feel the trees watching me anymore! And.. Let me try Mother's Locket again, I think it might work..'

Among possible loot:
Ribbon Choker
Scorched Wand
Screamstaff

So, I just did this encounter (Deyid was my last kill for the conqueror achievement, now I never have to go back to this stupid zone again), and it seems like the conversation with Seilaen can vary from what's in the writeup above. From my log, here's how mine went:

You say, 'Hail, Seilaen'
Seilaen looks at you with eyes wide with fear. 'Who... who are you? You... You must help me!
You say, 'I will help you'
Seilaen says, 'The forest, it... I can feel it looking at me... following me! Oh, I just want to leave and go!'

(At this point, I waited, but she never talked about having a locket that she couldn't make work, so, just to see if I could nudge things on...

You say, 'what locket of escape'
Seilaen says, 'My mother always carried this with her. I have no idea why I suddenly have it. Perhaps I can make it work for you, if you want me to?'
You say, 'I want you to'
Seilaen says, 'Oh it worked! Are you still here? Oh, please, don't have left me. Come tell me you are still here!'

(At this point, I'm ported to the top of the plateau as expected)

You say, 'I see deyid'

(No big monologue from her about how it must be Deyid causing all the trouble)

Auto attack is on.
Deyid the Twisted issues a deep rumbling laugh as his branches descend to club the life from you.

(Deyid gets the smackdown)

An eerie silence settles onto the forest as Deyid the Twisted slumps over, defeated.
You have slain Deyid the Twisted!
Seilaen shouts, 'Oh, thank you! Thank you! I don't feel the trees watching me anymore! And... Let me try Mother's Locket again, I think it might work...'

You have to say all the phrases to Seilaen to pop him, you will not get the normal [bracket] texts

I did this quest with a 65 ranger with elaborate gear and a merc healer. Never once did i have a problem with the adds. Took a few minutes to kill named but over all it wasn't a problem. Once he died the adds went away. Lowest i got on hitpoints is around 65%.only had 12k hitpoints with Gall
Too easy

we killed it.... just a 68 chanty, 68 bst, a 67 clr, and a 69 ranger. ofcourse the cleric (me) died first hehe. and retreated after deyid was dead but kept getting summoned. not too hard of fight if you have enough dps.

Lol, was just wandering around PoN killin stuff and saw the NPC...went through the line and figured I'd try it...Deyid went down easy, took a couple of heal potions to make it through the adds afterward.

Soloed him tonight with a 70 Warrior. Was a bit rough, but doable. Furious followed by Fellstrike followed by Stonewall (to maximize DPS, minimize damage) with a Heal over Time potion and Steadfast Servant. Once he was dead, it was a loot and scoot.

Trees did NOT follow me off the plateau, and stopped summoning me once I was off the plateau.

Did it today, 12 peeps as usual, dropped Tree in about 40 secs, dealed with all trees...nothing happened. From the odd trees we got a Nightmarewood Bow staff and a Page of Dark Power - 11
finished?

So has anyone actually killed off all the adds? I mean maybe there's something else that spawns after he drops. do the adds have loot?

This quest dounds like the most pointless quest to do, not only do you know yer going to DIE, but you also get crap for it. Is the exp even worth it. I see that the loot is worthless, and really what good is the exp if only 1 or 2 ppl are still alive to get the exp? I think there is someone at SOE ROFL every time some one goes up to try and kill this thing.

The reward isn't very great, but it's great practice for people new to raids, with minimal organization time required, minimal complications (it's fairly straightforward), so it's just a matter of making sure everyone does their job.

Going to try to pull Deyid off the plateau. Will report if its possible. If it is he can very well be soloed if certain classes play their cards right

Is there any reason to do this? Its seems crappy loot for such a hard mob. Unless you would get a flag I wouldn't see why you would do this.

the other day i was sitting in PoN agro kiting trees when i see this quest NPC, i hail her and talk to her until i finally tell her i want her to make it work for me and BAM there i am at deyid and BAM, as i begin gating, a mob from out of nowhere agroes me and i root the mob and scoot back, when i move back i go into deyids agro range and die instantly, what a great experience, and i almsot pissed my pants
Why bother

Retreat??? What are druids and wizards for on a raid? Evac seems like a much better choice if you are in over your head.

Hmm as a raid leader of a small guild I often call retreats if things start getting too out of hand. It's one thing to spend 1hr recovering from a wipe when you only have one thing on your nights to do list, but when you have several kills you intend to make an hour is way to much to waste when you've already achived your goal there... I mean realy would you rather chop through several mobs of no interest or hop to the next loot of the night?

Saw Seilaen up, organized two groups quickly from PoN and PoT. Raid Comp: 61 war tanking, several rangers, 2 56 enchanters, 2 60 clerics and miscellaneous others. Engaged Deyid with melees with rangers using trueshot disc, first wave spawned around 80%. They are NOT mezzable. Finished off Deyid right before we wiped from tree wave, last person alive looted:
Spectral Parchment
Scorched Wand
Easy enough with a GY CR. The key is to tash him, and just pour on all the damage you can muster, evac before trees reach you, and decide who gets what loot beforehand to make it quick.

56 Enchanters would only have the ability to Mez creatures that were level 57 or lower (limit of Glamour of Kintaz) It may be possible for Enchanters with Rapture (level 59 spell, mezzes to 61, I think) to knock out the adds, but it'd be messy- Rapture's recast time and duration make it effective only on single controls... If you can get a couple of 61+ Enchanters, they could probably handle it with Apathy.

'Course, if they are truly completely Mez-proof, then it'd just be messy as hell. :)

A Couple of Notes on Deyid
# Jan 24 2003 at 1:09 PM Rating: Decent
A little quick info:

Deyid's max hit is 785. He hit me several times for between 150ish and 785. I am a 54 Monk with moderate equipment (full acrylia with about 5 upgrades)

Not sure if this has changed but each of our members had to say "I am ready" to port up individually after the group leaders went through the chat messages.

Deyid is NOT perma-rooted in place. To kill him quickly, I recomend the whole party staying pretty close to him so the melees don't waste precious time running around after him.

His tree buddies seem to be triggered at certain percentages of Deyid's health, and appear to come in waves. The first monk up on the plateau agro'd him, but then stayed FD'd for 20 min while the rest of us found our way up and got buffed; thus the trees are not timed from his agro.

We have tried him twice and have failed both times. The first time we actually saw him at 0% life but we all wiped to adds before he died. He had some pretty serious DoT's on him, and we figured we killed him but could not get back up to the plateau to loot him.

Thus, the second time we tried him we took 3 monks, 2 of whom were to FD when they got remotely low on heath to loot him in case of a Wipe. We didn't have as much firepower on this try and only got him down to about 20% life, but one monk sucessfully FD'd. (My FD failed - a couple more max hits finished me off)

The monk that was able to stay FD'd reported that he was back up to full life about 15 SECONDS after the last other character bit it. Either he just reset himself, or he has some pretty massive HP regen.

Good luck,

Noslua

All mobs in PoN regen to full health when they get out of aggro range in about 2-3 ticks.
Why rated excellent?

Wondering why this Seilaen quest is rated as excellent? Is it just for power XP-ing? Do you get a flag when you complete the trial? How do you complete this (only one person said they survived)? The quest seems to repeat between clicking the locket and killing the boss - is there a definite end? Are there nice loot drops?
one group mob
# Nov 12 2002 at 2:50 AM Rating: Default
Dayid the Twisted is lvl64, very easy to kill with one group, however you must kill him fast.

the longer it takes for you to kill him the more adds you will get, and most likely wipe to the adds.

we killed him with one group, and he dropped the ribbon choker 6ac 8agi 45hp mana, and one spectral parchment.

Any info on what this guy hits for or what he does? How long does it take for the treants to get to you?
RE: Info?
# Nov 12 2002 at 2:51 AM Rating: Decent
I wasn't tanking on this one, but I seem to remember Deyid hitting around double 300s, not being magic resistant (2 out of 4 nukes hit for full effect from a red con), and having an unusualy low number of HP's for a mob of his level.
However, the treants he summons are probably as nastie or nastier than he is. They appear about 30 sec into the fight, and start moving in around 1 min into the fight. Until they start moving they can't be targeted. I've herd rumors that if you can kill Deyid before they start moving they despawn. I can attest that once they start moving they don't care if Deyid is up or not. They hit hard and fast, and killed every caster quick. My suggestion is have the casters up close to the melee to give the raid a few more seconds to kill deyid.
As far as tactics are concerned, this is totaly a DPS race. Slow Deyid, and get a SK or paladin to tank, the extra agro they can generate should allow the casters to start nuking from about 3 sec into the fight onward. You definatly do not need defensive dicipline to tank this guy.

Oh, btw you can only get 2 groups up to the platue. To max out your numbers have a non-grouped raid member do the original conversation and get ported upto the platue, then 2 group leaders. You may be able to have a group leader jump down and a mage coth others up but VI probably had this in mind when designing the encounter so I wouldn't bother trying. The quest dose reset if you fail, but when you succeed the girl despawns. Not sure if she has a dialogue before despawning (we all were killed by the summoned trees when we succeeded), or if you get a quest flag for killing Deyid (I was dead when Deyid went down...ah well.). When he went down for us he had some weak staff on him, I don't remember details though.

You can jump off of the plateau that Deyid spawns on. Has anyone tried just dropping him and running like hell? I know that the 61 chanter with us was only able to mez about 2 of the spawned trees. I was the only one that managed to survive out of our full 12 that killed him. We did kill him, it was the spawned trees that nailed us. Is gate possible? Or is it best to SoW/SoE everyone and after he's dead just run like heck to the zone?
