This quest is for good aligned casters.

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'Oi there! Its nice to meet you Celebus, you must excuse me for I am currently working on a special spell for my studies. I would love to talk but I have to teach a class very soon to the new [initiates] and I don't have my lesson prepared yet. Are you also a [young initiate of the Eldritch Collective]? If you are then I hope you will be ready for the lesson.'

You say, 'I am a young Initiate of the Eldritch Collective'

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'Excellent. You must understand that I am very pressed for time but if you are a young initiate of the Collective then I always have time to share my knowledge with you. If you are interested I have some [training] for you to begin. These tasks will help you prepare for the upcoming lesson as well!'

You say, 'what training?'

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'I have a number of tasks that I ask new recruits of the Eldritch Collective to complete. These task will test both your ability to fight as well as your navigational skills, 2 very important factors on your road to infinite knowledge. When you are ready to begin your journeys I will present you with a Tinkered Sewing Kit that you will use to gather numerous [important components].'

You say, 'what are the important components?'

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'All right then Celebus, here is your Tinkered Sewing Kit. In this sewing kit you will combine a number of recipes that will be used for creating your Eldritch Collective Initiate Armor. When you are ready to craft a certain armor piece all you must to is tell me which piece you [want] to craft. I will then present you with the component recipe along with the applicable pattern for [Caps], [Bracers], [Sleeves], [Sandals], [Trousers], [Gloves] and [Robes]. When you have completed the material for whatever piece you asked for you will combine it in a sewing kit with the appropriate pattern to fashion your armor piece. I do suggest though that you attempt your robe last as the components are more difficult then any other piece to collect.'

You say, 'I want to craft trousers'

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'One will need to question your intellectual abilities if they see you running around without any pants on so let's make sure that doesnt happen. To create your trousers material you will need to combine 4 Grikbar Kobold Scalps, 1 Aviak Beak, 1 Runaway Clockwork Motor and Cloth Pants in your assembly kit. Once you have created the proper material take it to a sewing kit along with this pattern to fashion your very own Trousers of the Collective Initiate.'

This list is in more detail on one of the other pieces, but I thought I'd add it in breif to the rest. For more details, look at the Eldritch Collective Initiate Bracer, message name "drop" by "mikeagne".

These pages give you the caster's book. According to another poster, the gnome camp is in Steamfont at -1160, -1760. They are all level 10, and do not agro. As I have not looked for them yet, I cannot confirm this. Just thought you'd like to know.

The Motor

This is the hard part of the quest. Grik scalps are easy in comparison, just find someone who wants better gemchopper faction and loot their kills as they slaughter dozens of Griks.

The motor drops from "a runaway clockwork", not "runaway clockwork". Best place to find them is the newbie pit. The clocks rarely drop anything and the motor is uncommon when they do. I got about 6 wrists, 4 eyes, 2 handplates, 1 footplate, 1 gearbox before I got a motor.

To get clockworks to spawn, kill rats, spiderlings and decaying gnome skels. You will also have to kill young coyotes and small mountain lions as they will aggro on you. Do NOT kill krag chicks, they drop the beak VERY rarely if at all, and after a while will start aggroing also. Get a necro to kill the drakelings as they need the bile.

Rats are important. These are the moneymakers. As often as 1 in 10 they will drop a plague rat tail which sells for up to 17g. The other parts range from copper to a gold or two. By the time my chanter was level 7 and found the motor, I had all my level 4 spells and 40p in the bank. And bought all the other components that could be bought.

think it depends on your fraction. the only thing i get hit with faction is when i kill the clockworks but nothing else gets hit even the krag chicks u can kill as many as u like they will stay same con as when u first started killing um.
and yes the krag beaks drop very rarely begining to think they dont drop but i kill um every time i c um

For people confused
# Jul 13 2002 at 10:40 PM Rating: Good
Many people do not realize that you have to combine all of the materials in the tinkered sowing kit, WITHOUT the pattern, then combine the cloth material you get WITH the pattern in a regular sowing kit. If you try to combine it all at once you will get a 'cannot combine' message.

Eldritch Initiate Pants
# May 30 2002 at 6:49 PM Rating: Decent
The Cloth pants were hard to find for me.The pants the vendors I went to all were small and they dont work. I finaly got the pants in Felwithe up by the guilds as you go in.
They must right click as cloth pants and the size is medium .
All the stuff I got from skeletons worked but I killed about 150 of them and only got the sleeves, cloth wrist bands and cap from them.

you need exactly 0 to 225 skill in order to make this stuff
What sewing lvl?

What level does your sewing skill have to be at in order for this to work the first time. I've got the components, but I don't want to try to make it and then not succeed and be out some hard to get stuff.
RE: What sewing lvl?
# May 19 2002 at 9:58 AM Rating: Default
You do not need to have any skills in tailoring. Just combine the stuff (minus the pattern) in the tinkered sewing kit.

Then combine the result with the pattern in an ordinary sewingkit.

You dont need skill to combine any new person armor. So much of this stuff is common sense if you read through it. I will however confirm after I combined this I had a tailor skill of (1). Meaning they made it zero failure and/or trivial at one?

You all really need to think logically about this. A lot of times these are to encourage you to explore your surroundings and even a few surrounding zones. Logically not a single damn mob drops the 'medium pants' its a pain. but it leads you to other conclusions. Most of the more difficult stuff you cant get untill 8-10 thats why its a 1-10 quest armor. just fight, lvl, loot and check your list. dont fixate on one item.

"the runaway clockwork motor is sold by the mercheant in the cog by the mino caves."

Thats because they drop off the male rebel Clockwork, by the minocaves.

The aviak beak only comes from two places I know of in all of norath, the ocean of tears parot aviak island, OR, the Kraig Warriors and Kraig elders. Often if you leave town, pass the windmills, and keep going they are there. and out by the lone observer.

anyways. im not so sure the small cloth pants wont work. because i was being dumb and trying to combine the stuff AND pattern in kit... you dont do that. combine all items, you get a 'sheet', combine that 'sheet' and pattern. which I did in a normal sewing box actually. (the finnished product and the pattern).

question 'bout aviaks
# May 17 2002 at 8:52 PM Rating: Default
What level are the aviaks that drop the beaks, and is the area around the mino caves dangerous for a lvl 8 mage?

The do not appear to drop from chicks, probably elders and maybe warriors. Don't do it. Buy on from the store. Easier to kill rats and sell a plague rat tail; it will sell for more than the cost of a beak.

Yes, a lvl 8 mage can survive the mino valley (barely) but the krag elders go to at least lvl 13. Beware of skels, rats, elementals, brownies and slavers. If you see the Hero coming for you, run. fast.
Reward for this quest
# May 12 2002 at 6:02 AM Rating: Decent
The reward you get for completing this quest is:

Legs of the Collective Initiate
Magic Lore No Drop
Slot: LEGS
AC: 4
STA: +2 INT: +2 MANA: +5
Class: WIZ MAG ENC
Race: GNM

The most difficult piece to find was the Runaway Clockwork Motor. It dropped off of 'a runaway clockwork', but seems to be a rare drop. It helps tremendously to have a Ranger handy to track them down. :)

I was not able to find the motor anywhere near the druid ring, I did find something that looked quite similar called a gearbox though. Found my motor over by the mino caves off of a male rebel clockwork.

The motors are from the (now lisen carfuly) REBEL CLOCKWORKS! Found near the mino caves.

They do not drop from A Runaway Clockwork... trust me! Someone told me this and I hunted them for 3 days, maybe 5 hours a day before I said ***** it and took my anger out on some mino's. While passing through I saw a Rebel Clockwork and thought to myself "I blame you! Die you dirty f*****!"

First kill and the motor was on it... I never cried so hard :P

Just to clear this up... they do drop off of runaways. I got one just tonight... the second one I killed. Didn't even know it was for the quest =) Safe hunting!
RE: Runaway clock work motors?
# Jun 10 2002 at 11:52 PM Rating: Default
This is the hardest piece for me so far. Had a bit of trouble with the coyote heads and the brownie leg but I was able to buy them from the merchants. So far I've killed about 300 of these critters both the regular runaways and the rebels I've seen tons of stuff drop, many no drop items but yet to find a motor. Killed a few runaway clockworks and saw Rebel parts on them so I dont doubt that you can get these items of either kind of clockwork.

I killed many many rebels around the mino caves, also found an abundance of regular runaways in the vally near the druid rings, and also in the area of the dragon skeliton. Only my second day of hunting maybe I will get lucky tomarrow. I hope. I hope, LOL

I have to disagree with this post. I got runaway clockwork motor off of a runaway clockwork spider near the druid circle. It is a very rare drop, but it does drop off the runaways.

The mob to start the newbie gnome good-aligned caster quests is inside the caster guild in one of the little closet rooms with a door.

A guildie this morning said he looted an avo beak from an aviak elder; these spawn near the mino caves (I had killed 3-4 there but not had a drop).

So far the pieces I've made use cloth armor, NOT small cloth armor. /cheer VI logic. Regular cloth armor is available in Felwithe.
