I have tried all 4 scrolls but not sure what the real story is?! I had all 4 scrolls on me at one point and randomly tried them one at a time (didn't have them in any order, so not sure which numbered one I turned in first, second, etc...) and something strange happened:
-trying the tanned skins that look like scroll sheets not rolled up scrolls doesn't give anything
-on 2 of the 4 numbered scrolls that I turned in I got nothing at all as a reward, just the usual message "I'm not sure what to do with this but thanks" or whatever he says.
-ONE of the numbered scrolls resulted in the karana's tear!!!
I think that the tear is linked to a specific numbered scroll, like say number 2 always gives the tear or maybe it's number 4 but what we need is a few people to check which numbered scrolls they try and post here on which ones did or did not work. Unfortunatly I am now at a level where hunting paw gives little or no experience so I don't get a chance to collect scrolls anymore.

I only had 3 of the 4 scrolls on me when I tried, that's why...

The guy isn't always there, unfortunately. He seems to only take the scroll shaped ones, not the pages.

He has 2 spots. 1 in the Fish's Ale by the docks and the other behind the bank opposite the Office of the people. After a while he runs between these 2 points.

You can still find him in town. I'm a ranger and I tracked him to the Docks. I don't know if that's the only alternate position though.

ok i got a lore tanned split paw hide, looks like a rolled up scroll, is this for gauntlets or are they the same?

It can be used in either quest. The same scrolls (the lore ones that look rolled up) are used for both quests. You only need one for the Karana's tear, but you need all four for the gem inlaid gauntlets.

I have the information on the 4 Tanned Split Paw Hides (Volume 1-4) that look like rolled scrolls. Does anyone know what to do wih the ones that look like a spell that you purchase from a vendor? They are also called Taned Split Paw Hide and sell to the merchants for 9 cp. Also How do you learn the Gnoll language?

About the split paw hides that look like spells, as far as i know the have no other use than be selled to vendors, they are no lore items, so i guess they aren´t used for any quest.
On the other side, u learn gnoll language putting one practice point into the skill at your guild trainer.

Hi there ,well the tanne hides from paw are actually for a quest for some really honky dory gloves. Same stats as Iskar scale gloves but only 1 wgt. So these are actually better than the dam treant fist which 10 times as hard to get. They are call Gem inlaid gloves , from memory. Anyhow this quest has been around for ages but was busted ,in several places so hardly anyone completed it. BUT it has just been fixed. Not sure
if it is a seperate quest than the one above but looks like it. You need to get 4 tanned hides and bring them to a guy in Qeynos (near Library , he a librarian apparently) Anyhow the hides are lore so you can only loot or get different hides (each is nubered when Id.ed) Then he sends you to the monk guild head in FP to give to him to bind the hides into a book. Then bring bach to Librairan in Qeynos , then He sends to Buthcer Block to get your reward from a Dorf that owes him a favour. Wella A spiffy set of gloves. Sorry cant remember the NPC's names cus it was ages ago I tried this quest and only just found out its fixed. Good hunting all ya monkeys.)

Actually you don't even need to be able to read Gnoll to be able to 'identify' them. If you open, them, you'll notice that there are four different 'volumes'. Regardless of whether you can read Gnoll, you can see a number near the beginning, indicating which volume you have.

If you want all 4 for the earring to save them as you get them... it won't let you loot one you already have as they're lore so when you've got 4 of them you know you have them all.

also... there is a number on each scroll (usually 3rd to 7th character from the begining) it is a 1, 2 , 3, or 4 real simple as you can then /auction for any you dont have

You can also tell by reading them without knowing Gnoll...the first word is Volume followed by a number that tells you which one it is (even if you can't actually read "Volume").

You need only trade in one for the earring. I gave it away and did it again, and again, and again. I just dont see any reason to give more than one at once.

How can you learn Gnoll?
Probably the same way you learn or or Kobold. By walking up to them and attacking. They always say something to you when you smite them. Eventually you should be able to read Gnoll. That is how I learned to understand Goblin.

Did anyone attempt to sell it to a merchant to find out how much it is worth? I don't know too many ppl that are concerned about the stamina stat so I doubt it would be a big seller to the public.

Just a sad fact for us "earthy" people out there... yeah, the Gnomes and Dwarves... and I think Halflings too... Guess who made the Gnolls? Brell Serilis. Yay! Now I feel guilty for killing of my brethren... kinda.

+5 to STA is pretty good for an earring, although you could buy a plat bloodstone earring for +6 sta, but that is quite a bit of plat.

I had given him all four scrolls for the quest at once. Got some change and an Earring: Karana's Tear: +5 Sta lore item... Pretty junky for such a pain to get all the scrolls.
