Agreed Zylinder. I went through looking for revenge & got it--this NPC killed my low-level monk numerous times when I was learning my way around CB.
At level 19 he was lite blue, but took me from 80% down to 39%. He ran all four spells against me & the last one was some kind of stomach cramp cast that stopped my hp regen for quite a while--thankfully, my Bind Wounds & Mend are skilled up as high as high can be for my level!
I must, it was satisfying getting some revenge. :)
I think the Thaumaturgist is higher than lvl 13... He attacked my lvl 19 warrior and conned dark blue (or was it light blue?) to him...
they changed his lvl in ldon now he's 15

The Thaumaturist's spellbook is used for a caster quest in Felwithe. The quest is given by the NPC on the pedestal in the entrance room to the caster guilds, he goes by the name of Yuin something. If you are a highelf caster, turn the spellbook into him and he will give you the Art Keeper staff...a basic magical 2-hd weapon usable only by highelf casters (not clerics). The weapon is not too great, especially being a 2-hd weapon, but it's better than the plain dagger the casters start with.
I've tried to complete this quest, but have not had any luck locating this Thaumaturist gent. If you could give me the approximate location in cb where you found him, it would be greatly appreciated.

well, when you first enter Crushbone, you head the regular way to Trainer hill, then take the first path to the castle entrance... however, go right and follow the wall to the tents and huts... usually, the thaumaturgist is in the first hut, but there might be a placeholder... I'm not that sure but that is where I've found him... caution, though, this feller is like a souped up oracle, kinda like a legionnaire and an oracle mixed together, with a little less power =)

I haven't seen a placeholder for him, but he seems to spawn regulary at the head of the table. He is nasty. During my fight with him he cast Clinging Darkness, Lifespike, Poison Bolt, Disease Cloud, and Heat Blood...glad I was high enough lvl. The chanter was happy she got the book :).
When you get the staff after the turn-in you then find a pristine forest drakelkng scale and an arborean amber (drops off a mature arborean). You then turn all three items (staff, scale, amber) into the same guy on the pedestal and he gives you the Artkeepers Initiate Staff (8/34, 2HB, +2 Int, +1 Cha, high elf only, wizard, magician enchanter).

Anyone know what to do with the spell book this guy drops?

Turn it into the head guy at entrance to the Felwithe caster's guild (the one who gives out the newbie armor quests). I havent gotten one yet, but once I do, I'll be sure to let you know what I get for it.
