Fabled version conned LB to a 75. Nothing fight. Dropped a half-decent Type 7/8 aug 55@ HP/MANA, 10ac, 5 to all saves. "Fabled Rockhopper Spirit Fetish."
EDIT: bugged item.... "Restrictions-" is blank but cannot be inserted into ANY slot. Reported as bug.

Easily spawned just by killing hoppers near the Marus Seru line. He spawned there for me and pathed up and down that first gorge for almost three hours. Tried to solo him twice and had to FD twice.
I want to add that the first time I tried him I had just used my HT a few minutes prior and by the second time I engaged it had refreshed with the default timer so he'll stay up a good while.
Regens like crazy and is quite resistant. Hits for 170s-180s max and quite fast. Has over 10k hp although with his regen its hard to tell.
This 57 sk will try him again but with a different strategy.

Saw this mob on track for the first time after spending about a week in Mons Letalis killing Inspired Spire Spirit ph's. With a 65 DRU I began tracking, but before I gained visual contact I stopped receiving tracking msgs. I was alone in the zone. I systematically combed the area and could not find it anywhere, the mob appeared to have despawned on it's own. After killing 2 cycles of the Inspired Spire Spirit ph (this takes roughly 2 hours, during which time I am reasonly certain I was alone in the zone) the Ancient Rockhopper once again appeared on track. Located it quickly this time, it posed no resistance to a standard DRU root-dotting. Dropped Part of Zeannor's Thesis Pg. 14 (left side) and a damaged rockhopper hide.

Saw this guy near where I was camped once before, then I learned that he drops words of agony needed for making the Dead Men Floating spell. I'm 51 (both of us) and he is yellow to me.
My first cast of dooming darkness stuck, but he resisted the next two casts. EBolt stuck, Bond of Death stuck. He resisted Drain Soul twice, resisted Asystole twice. The first two casts of fear (the lower level version) stuck, I think he resisted a third cast. I ping-ponged him for a couple casts of fear but then darkness dropped and I could not get another to stick. Despite my two pets he really didn't like taking 280hp/tick from my dots and he was on me like glue. I headed for the zone - my pets slowed him down enough to give me the lead, and just as I could see the entrance a stonegrabber (with thier wide aggro radius) whacked me.
My one remaining pet got him to 0% but he killed the pet anyway. My second necro was FD by this time. He still had the mob targetted, and I saw his health regen from 0% to 100% in less than ten seconds.
I'll get him next time!

I was farming Rockhoppers around -600 -150 and this guy spawned right in front of me. It conned DB but i figured what the hell and I attacked. I'm a 65 Pally and had 7.1k hps at the time with virtue and my HoT spell was sufficent to keep me alive through the entire fight. Average hit me for 100-150 and the whole thing took a little over 5 mins cause I had to kill a stonegrabber add. Only dropped a hide for me.

I've soloed him a couple of times. Seems the only way to get him to spawn is by killing the other rockhoppers, which I do to get superb and flawless hides. He seems to disappear alot, I've had him on track one minute and then I lose him a minute later. Also, if you are considering killing this mob, for God's sake SNARE the bugger. He's faster much faster than SoW, and he's never resisted my snare yet.

I'm a necro and I darkened this guy, then feared him, sent the pet, splurt, plague, and envenomed bolt. After rooting and darkening 2 adds I was running low on mana. This guy killed my pet, so I casted FD. As I watched he was regaining 5% of his health every second- not every tick, every second! I couldn't believe it when he went from 1/2 dead to fully healed in 10 seconds. If you kill this guy kill him FAST. Otherwise he'll outregen you. Now where in my book did I put those nukes?

Luclin and Velious mobs regenerate like that when they lose aggro. When you feigned death, the mob lost aggro and regenerated. 5% per second is about correct.

how much rockhopper hides sell for?????
I realize this is an older post and that the response is quite a bit delayed :p.. But, I have a strong feeling on the subject. I realize prices differ greatly from each server. On The Seventh Hammer right now, Flawless Rockhopper Hides are running an average of 350p - 450p. I am trying to max my tailoring (193 is a very frustrating stage in my oppinion). I just farm mine because 350p for a single combine can make a lot of people broke I'm sure. My advice is if you are working on tailoring, farm them yourself if at all possible. I would imagine the prices would drop as well if people can avoid buying them for that. And also, if you are on the mid-level end for tailoring you could earn a bit extra with the high quality rockhopper hides by making Handmade Backpacks from the weight reduction. Rockhopper hides are great to farm for plat, not so great if you are the one buying them in my oppinion. :p
Soloed him twice. dropped a superb hide first time, and two LQ pelts the next time.

51 shammy and 48 bard took him down... about a 10 min fight, had an add form mature rockhopper, charmed him, chanted him with the shaman dotting him... and her pet on him the whole time...dropped a flawless hide. Bard was down to 40% health and shammy was oom after fight(and killing the mature rockhopper

killed him last night. We were two lvl 51 wizards snaring, rooting and nuking him, took about 8 min with KEI. He dropped a Flawless Rockhopper Hide 8)

Yes, i killed him. Level 53 bard, chant kited him for about 10 minutes ( Luclin selos song lasts for 2.5 minutes and had to refresh 4 times). At the end of it all I got....NOTHING!! Nothing dropped for me, not even a hide! Broog Bloodbeard in Rathe drops more (another named mob that drops noting special). Thanks for wasting 10 minutes of my time Verant. And if you all think I'm being just a tad bitter, I am. Sue me.

But you aren't in fear of dying when waiting for the Spires to go off, are you? I think thats the main thing he was angry about. He took a big risk trying to kill this thing and was rewarded with nothing special.
How many times do you go on Raids and when all is said and done, you have nothing to show for your labors except for someone else getting the big rewards? and the XP on raids isnt anything special to boast about either, but you still take the chance of dying, and more than not, youre going to once.... so he lived, got nothing from the kill, spent a measly 10 minutes on a mob.. I've spent hours in riads and gotten awhole 1% XP for it and no loot or cash to show for my efforts.. he has nothing to complain about.

Are you guys just ALL completely pathetically stupid or something? Lvl 51 rogue (myself) and 51 druid took this down without taking so much as a bubble of health. It took less than 10 minutes.
Have you druids just not realized you can FEAR ANIMAL yet? My god, the stupidity...

Fearing isn't too bright in most of this zone, too many adds. Aggro kiting would be smarter for a Druid-Rogue combo. (Assuming you can convince the Rogue not to use weapons with high aggro procs - don't know why so many Rogues are addicted to those things.)

Killed him had kei at lvl 51 enc friend was 51 took 10 min about 8 to 10 k hp easier kill than big lizzy in oot that has 14k hp. got low q pelt

Took me 3 tries to kill him, first timne i was poorly prepared when i saw em at about 30m he trashed me and had to FD and quit out, 2nd time got a rockgrabber add and again had to FD and /q got em finally on the 3rd try with a 57 hitter monk pet at 56 at 80m he took 5 dooming darknesses, 2 splurts, 2 evenomed bolts, 1 bond of death and an ignite blood with pet wailing on him the whole time for a loong time and all but the 2nd splurt fully cycled so likely 8k+ hps min on him...droped a medium quality hopper hide wow!...he better have a nice rare:)

Last night a group of 4, a 51 uber SK, a 49 ranger, a 49 magician, and 54 druid tried to take the ancient and he proceeded to make us look silly. We definitely were not prepared for this guy. We were right at the mons/marus zone and pulled him. The druid was full mana, I was at half mana (magician), I was using my earth pet, and the ranger and SK with harm touch up. We fought for a few minutes and managed to get him down to about 20% health and the druid and I were OOM and the SK used his harm touch. We ended up zoning right before the SK would've died. After recovering and preparing (thanks to KEI and epic haste from a passer by chanter) we pulled him again and killed him off pretty easily without using Harm Touch. He is easily doable when you are prepared, just dont underestimate him, he hits hard (170's).

He can be snared and he can be rooted although root breaks almost instantly ( never got root to stick for more than 30 seconds ).
At times he resisted up to 8 consecutive attempts to root.
Arm dots dont phase him just keep his health at the same level
while keeping him rooted Winged Death did very little visible damage ( so he wasn't chasing me and was taking full damage )
I believe I kited him for over a hour and a half
and he dropped..... *drumroll*

didn't take me anywhere near as long to kite Ekelng Thunderstone in Eastern Waste and he is reported to have 10k hp or more
not sure on how many hp the Ancient hopper has but its a lot

pretty tough MOB, we had a 51 Druid, 50 Ranger, and myself 52 Shaman and pet. Pulled the Ancient Rockhopper thinkin he might have some twilight item... well we were smart enough to pull near the zone, cause by the time he killed my pet we were all pretty banged up, and Ol' Grumpy hadn't even lost one bubble of HP! We hit the zone, vowing to return with a tank or 3 someday...

Had him on track last night. He was yellow to me at 50, so 52 is about right. I was at the zone to The Grey and he was directly south of the tunnel on the other side of the tunnel. By the time I ran over there, he was gone. Oh well, maybe next time :)
