Mind flayers can also drain your intelligence (later revision) in melee. Their intelligence is considered "supra-genius". Mind Flayers, much like Beholders, are not from the same planet humans are on, in any circumstances. So yes, they are aliens, and their psionic powers are much stronger than just a stun.
This thing's not a mindflayer, just a stupid looking amphibious shock troop that lost its way.

Does anyone know if these Amygdalans drop the Amygdalan Tendril that the ones in Fear do? It's part of the bard epic, and it would be good to know if this is another source for them.
Um, ya. Read the blurb on why CT is now revamped. The plane of Fear has oozed its way into CTs temple. That's why it's so hard now.

Illithids have 4 tentacles too if I remember correctly. And no goddamn conch shells on their heads, they look sooo stupid :P

A Mind Flayer, or Illithid, is an evil race of humanoid amphibians. They stand about human height and have the face of an octopus or squid with four tenticles jutting out from the face near the mouth. Their bodies and skin are also amphibious in nature, slimy and of the same texture you'd expect when touching a frog. They are extremely intelligent (coming close or far surpassing Erudite intellect) and feed off the brains of intelligent creatures. They are practicly immune to all forms of magic and a few innate spell abilities to charm creatures, plane shift, and use ESP type abilities. They also have the ability to stun creatures with a mental based attack. They generally dress in robes with symbols of death, despair, dread, and fear adorning them. They have no known melee abilities, using their minds and abilities to fight foes and hunt. An Amygdalan is very similar to a Mind Flayer, only Amyg's are mostly melee and lack all the abilities of a true Mind Flayer. At the least, the Amygdalan's could be distant cousins of the Mind Flayers in the same way Barbarians would be distant cousins of Erudites.
