if you sneak up behind him and hail, you get this message (my character is a wood elf) -

[Sat Apr 08 10:30:12 2023] You say, 'Hail, Zrithsadioun'
[Sat Apr 08 10:30:12 2023] Zrithsadioun curls his lips back, revealing a row of jagged fangs lining his monstrous jaw. Arching his hunched, boney spine, the old and almost sickly looking gnoll glares down upon you with his yellow eyes, 'What Wood Elf come to Zrithsadioun for? He cares nothing for Wood Elf -- Zrithsadioun cares nothing for anyone but Zrithsadioun. Go. Now. Zrithsadioun is occupied with more important task than speaking with Wood Elf, but soon his belly will grow with pain of hunger, and then young Wood Elf may return...' The haggard gnoll swipes his black tongue quickly across his maw and then snaps at you with a snarling growl, 'Yes! Then you come back... then Zrithsadioun have use for young Wood Elf that be of Zrithsadioun's while.' Another growl leaves the gnoll as he continues to eye you -- warily and in unveiled agitation.

So I killed this mob twice in the past week, hope this info helps:

The first time he was heading South West right in front of the bridge to North Karana.

The second time I found him at loc 981, -304, 109 heading due East. Killed him at 2:15 EST, @8am game time.

Both times I was the only person in that zone, and only killed him. Not sure if he has a PH or if he is just on a looong spawn timer.

Necro mob, immune to changes in run speed, opens with a snare. If you attack from a distance, he'll do nothing but nuke you. Easy to solo if you have a stunner. Pet went down very fast, and he didn't re-summon. I think he had roughly 6-8k hitpoints.

solo

Solo'd this guy. He takes a couple min or so to bring down.

I didn't notice if he was undead or just looks that way.

I didnt have my log on to see if my WoN proc was going off. I never got a slay that is for sure.

Sir Nan is easier than this guy too. Especially when I hit Nan for 4k :)

I am a 65 monk. I was running around SK killing everything in site and saw this guy up. Never saw him before and he was indiff. I hailed him and got no response so I decided to attack him to see how strong he was. his melee was not that bad, he spent most of the fight trying to cast on me. With 130 mr I resisted all of his spells. A couple minutes later he was dead.

Soloed him with no problem at all. He has a very strange path, it almost seemed like he was running away from me. stops very often to cast spells. i had FM and 91% health at the end of the fight. so just keep ur distance and he should be easy. Hope this helps :)

Me, a 49 ranger, and a 52 wizzie where in the zone getting the last item for my Jboot... all 3 buffed to hell (me 3khp, hasted, kei, blah blah) So we run past the skelly camp on the way to the shadow men... We get instant agro, np we just keep running they'll back off and cant hurt us ne ways. I look up at my buff bar i got high lvl dots on me. We stop i throw about 4 300hp heals on myself and the dot finally fades.

We instantly thought pkers so we hit / no one was in the zone. So my GAR bro tracked down this yellow mob. Undead looking gnoll. I've been in sk more then i can count w/ my druid and didn't ever remeber running into him.

I ask the GAR he wants to go for it, so we give him everything we got. Ater bout 30 seconds w/ a series of nukes failed roots (THIS GUY CAN'T BE ROOTED/SNARED not resisted he CAN'T) I died... my bro died... the wizzie gated w/ dots.

It's all good though cuase this week we're ganna visit him w/ a few friends and a little more info. GL if ya wanna try him!

(BTW this man has LOADS of hp,we were whacking the poo outa him and the nukes were round 1k each and after a few he hadn't lost half a red)
RE: A tough mob indeed
# Apr 24 2003 at 11:36 AM Rating: Excellent
He certainly is tough. Killed him tonight after he jumped me at the undead camp. Immune to changes in run speed, so DA'd and swapped in some undead dots and nukes. Tried to cast one to find him not undead! DB'd and swapped in normal nukes and buffs (I was unbuffed at the time). Buffed as he run off and chased him down and meleed him to death. He is highly MR and resisted nearly all mu nukes. I did 13,345 damage to him in nukes and melee (gogo EQ Watcher). Was a fun little fight but would not weant to meet him at lower levels.

Quest for sword relates that he is a crazy gnoll from Splitpaw who is shunned by his own kind. Definitely acts like it. He will attack you but wont hold aggro on you. He will not keep aggro on you even if you attack him and kill his pet (which we did, then backed away to heal and he just turned away). Have seen him attack me at a distance while an enchanter a druid nuked him.

Estimated he has 25k hp, a 1063 nuke was about 4%. He regens mad, like Naggy, sometimes runs with SoW speed. Got a group to take him, only to watch him die at the hands of Bro Qwinn.

wow just had to write something about the ker-aaazy time i just had in SK.

zoned in late at night, just mooching around really, and this guy plus his pet were just passing the bridge from NK. i am lev 52 now and thought nothing in this zone could really touch me so ran straight up to him without conning.......WHAM 550pt nuke made me think twice and went to back off.....WHAM snared and rooted.

snare did not overwrite sow which i thought was damn weird but i was just stuck there thinking "aaargh" i'm gonna die here late at night with no rez in SK of all places what the hell!!

then he hits me with fear so i have no idea what's going on and all the time expect to die, yards from the zoneline. while feared i notice root and snare both coming off and sow still up and i thought "just maybe i will be able to run to zone". fear pops off and i stagger to the bridge on 5% health expecting the killing blow to fall but no.....he just walks off!!

SO, i am still in zone and just stunned to be alive and become CONVINCED that this is some weird GM event and start /ooc'ing to the zone "there is a named gnoll wandering around controlled by a gm and if this is some gm's idea of a joke it's NOT funny" lol.

anyway i quickly call on the only 2 ppl left in the channel my friends are always on......2 very high level uber wizards, Jhylven and Lotherian. they must have thought i was friggin crazy gibbering about how i'd nearly been ganked by a gm and could they PLZ come and help me kill the damn thing as revenge and partly incase some mega-loot was forthcoming!!

full credit to them they both zapped in immediately only to hear i had lost him off track and soo sorry etc etc. Loth ports back to his PoV group only to then have me say "aaaargh i've found him again" lol.

Loth comes back AGAIN (his group must love me!!) and the 3 of us gank the damn gnoll and his pet (which was the same con as the gnoll btw which was another reason i thought it was odd) into oblivion and i feverishly looted the corpse expecting to find some godly lewtz or a serverwide message or something.....blah!!!

FANTASTIC fun tho and something i won't forget for a long time lol.

my thanks go out to the 2 crack wizzies Jhyl and Loth for putting up with such a newb and for congratulating me rather than laughing me out of Norrath!!
What the ????
# Jan 13 2003 at 2:40 PM Rating: Decent
My 23rd. Lv. Pali. was in South Karana. I had no clue who he was but I picked up his pet using Sense the Dead and was curious. I went searching and ended up at the undead ring. With all the skeletons I wasn't going to pick the pet back up, and they were respawning faster than I could kill them one at a time; So I agroed the lot of them and took them out all together. This process actually knocked me down to a hundred hp. if that... and more skeles had respawned just the same. Right then I'm hit for 550 points of DD; but despite my at best 100hp. I'm only KOed he trained over me with a melee hit before I died???
Guess you can add a wierd glich in along with his odd tactics... I hit 60 I'm going back for vengence.
RE: What the ????
# Oct 16 2003 at 2:44 PM Rating: Decent
I think the reason he agros people and runs off is because he is only looking to recover mana with his hp to mana conversion spells...and anyone will do..its not agro its just buffing ...necro style! Just guessing here!

Same happened to me with this guy just logged on with my 24 ranger heading for KFC. Hit track and see a couple of blue aviaks so i buff myself and try to take em down. Kill the 1st aviak and hit track and boom hit with that nasty dot turn around in time to see him running away. Decide to run for brigde to make it easy to find body on the CR. How ever one more mob for the revenge list.

This guy does have weird tactics.

He killed my ranger when I was crossing SK and camo dropped. I was down on health anyways; the 500pt nuke evaporated me.

Wondering what that was all about, I looked here while ghosting him with my 54 cleric, wondering if I should take him - but the pet was also dark blue to me.
Suddenly he aggroed, nuked me - it was some nuke+dot spore - then ran away before I could get Stun off. Immune to root, stopped, snared me, then continued running away. The snare didn't stick long so I ran for the NK bridge (this was all between centaur town and undead ring) I saw him once when he seemed to have circled around in front of me, but I passed him around, he ran off, and I didn't see him in 10 minutes of sitting around.

One of the most bizarre things I've seen in EQ. Also, while was ghosting him out by centaur village, he stopped walking - in a tree! All the way at the top in the leaves, and his pet was just chilling at the foot of the tree. Would have been a nasty surprise to anyone who might have run by and said ooh - a skelly - I think I'll go whack it!

Aye, some of the strangest behavior I've ever seen. Unless you stay within striking distance, which isn't too large, he'll move on without another peep. He'll move along even after you engage him and then move away from him. Today, I saw a 61 druid try and dot him, and since he couldn't be snared, was running after him. For a split second I thought, "Gee, when did a woodelf get fear?" After the other druid gave up, even mentioning that he didn't think he could be killed I gave the gnoll a whirl. Sure enough, he smacked me with an approx. 500 DD. I backed off, healed up and he ran off. Tracked him down again, threw all my decent dots on him (Breath of Ro, Drifting Death and Drones), and he snared me. As I was standing there waiting for the snare to release, I hit him with Starfire (612dd). I backed up a little, and when snare dropped he was off and running. I was right behind him and as my dots started to fall I realized his life bar had dropped no more than 1/8 of a bubble, even after my dd. I used the 2nd pc to check what he was for and it was then that I realized it would be in my best interest to let it go. Another really strange and quite unique tidbit of the scenario is that he never sent his pet after me; not once did I see him send his pet after the other druid either. It was as if he was toying with us and didn't think we were worth even his pet's trouble. GL to any who decide to go up against this rather weird spawn...

Three of us running around SK hoping for a shot at Quillmane: 52 Bard (me), 51 Mage, and 49 Cleric. Saw him on track and went to investigate. Found him finishing off Braenar and sitting at about 75% health. I had only two chants memmed at the time, so I started in on him while the mage got her 51 earth pet up. He was immune to snare as mentioned, and also fear. Mage nuked to OOM and got him down to about 35% hp. He was running around at that point, staying away from the pet as best he could, trying to get his nukes off. With my two chants (about 150dd/tick), I could keep him from healing up, but I could not take him down any further. Pet finally kept him occupied long enough to get two more chants memmed and he started going down again. The rest of the fight was chasing him around the zone trying to let the casters med while I kept him chanted but on the pet as much as possible. Cleric had to heal me a few times for his 500 and 600 pt nukes. Took at least 8 minutes (3 Selo's Chorus cycles) for us to get him down from 35% to dead, and at least some of that was additional nukes from the mage once she had mana again.
killed him last night

Took him down with myself (54 ranger swiftwind and frosty) and a 53 shaman (no epic just JB Bracer). I had ago and HOS at the start of the fight but he cast (?) spell and removed both. he dot and lifetaps for 500. This was a long fight he will run out of mana eventualy. at the end of the fight both of us were OOM and I was 1/2 life.

facts about him
1. he is a necro and will have a pet most of the time
2. he agros on just about anyone, even the NPC bards
3. he can be pulled but he takes a shot at you if you do
4. likes to lifetap, manadrain and fear (keep those resists up)
5. can not have his movement changed , so no snaring or rooting will help
6. has a HUGE amount of Hpts

Dropped the scroll Voice of Karana and nothing else. No faction hits, unlike the unkept fanatic.

Finally found him
# Oct 09 2002 at 6:47 PM Rating: Decent
I'd been after this guy for two weeks, off and on, and finally saw him last night on track (I'm a 52 bard) Ran over to him just in time to watch him get killed by Braenar Swiftsong. DOH

Logged back in tonight and he was up and just sitting in one place just to the left of the bridge from NK. Got a couple of friends (54 War, 54 Shammy) and tried to take him. Warrior and I died and Shammy saved herself.

Called in reinforcements in the form of a 50 cleric to rez, a 54 bard and a 54 rogue.

Took him down easily the second time.

While waiting for the reinforcements to arrive I followed him up and down the coast from zone edge to zone edge several times. He doesn't sit still for long, and occasionally seems to hit hyper speed like a SoW. Never saw him go back to the bards at the well, so maybe he spawns in several different places.

First time he spawned (when he got killed by Braenar) it was 2am on a game Saturday. Second time was on a game Sunday when I logged in so don't know what time he spawned, but I'd been logged in earlier hoping he would spawn on a Saturday again and he didn't so I logged out for a while. He did stick around for over an hour in real-time after killing us during the first attack.

I wish I would have been able to say exactly how to make him spawn or where he does, but....just look up and down the river from east to west for several days and you'll probably see him.

ok this is what I know about him, he seems to patrol east to west and back again across northern edge of zone (parallel to water as deep in zone as undead camp) he is a necro, but has an odd agro pattern, jumped him with a level 22 shaman <only way i could gauge his level> he dropped the 500pt dd on me and RAN AWAY. i chased him with Furfooter Ferretflinger (level 39 paladin at the time) and he seemed to be more interested in running away from conflict than just killing you. he seems to be almost immune to DoTs ( I watched Brazdos drop like 5-6 winged deaths on him and he took almost no damage, even tho the spell stuck) he does take melee damage, as well as damage from dd spells. eventually we killed him and his loot was a no drop scroll of Karana (karana worshipers-rogue ranger and druid classes) I will post a ss of item as my paladin has it for future MQ if possible. unless you need the scroll, id just avoid him since hes pretty much a complete pain in the *****
