Tried quad-kiting here today with my 56 Druid. Most were dark blue cons. Very easy to do, no resists, but the experience is just horrible, even AA exp. I'm guessing low 50's at best would get decent experience here, that's it.
I've been kiting these buggers since I got Pillar of Lightning on 54, and I have done a lot of time on the islands.
There's 8 raptors on large, and 6+1 on small. The +1 is actually on large, on it's own little beach facing small, but it's considered to belong to small.
I always swarm kite the 8 on large, and do the southern quad on small.
It rules... and the research components are ALL usable for celestial essence... :) No paying 26pp for coldain velium temper, you make em here and in CS :)
Some infos for those interested in kiting them: * These raptors run at about sow speed of what a low 40s shaman or druid can cast...maybe a bit faster than that. * The regular ratpors hits in the 80 to 100 range, the vicious ones can hit up to 120dmg. Which is not very hard for their level, but they DO hit extremely fast (and will interrupt your casting for the pure casters). * Their aggro range is huge, if you kite at the island with druid circle, the range is about quarter the length of the island. (so if you are a druid running around kiting, it would most likely mean you'll aggro the whole island) * The regular raptors have 4k to 4.5k worth of hp, while the vicious ones have about 5kish. * They have very low resists for their level (like all pre velious mobs), my DOTS which have both damage and debuff components almost never get resisted by regular raptors at 54, and rarely by the vicious. * no loot except research components. * these raptors are mostly been kited by druids and wizards, it would be very hard for most people to find a group for this. * unless those who kite are level 60, always ask if you can share the islands, they spawn so fast, druids and wizards without KEI will not be able to hold even 1 of the islands. * around 8 raptors on druid circle island, and 5-6 on east island.
Hope these help. Btw, bards can do great here also, beside the regular druid and wizard visitors (except we can't bind in zone), they provide easy exp and non-stop charm kiting if you are into it.
Innoruuk worshipping Tier'dal wasn't kos to the birdies.... although I might be now after we played ping pong with a few dozen. Race/class has nothing to do with birdy faction is my guess
Not very likely at all to get a group hunting these things. Although they are great exp, im pretty sure you would have to be one of the solo'ing classes to even consider hunting them. They hit far too hard to be worth tanking them for very long.
These critters have the largest agro radius I've encountered so far in EQ. I can get close enough to cast without agroing, but only just barely. Most of the time, if you see one, you've probably just agrod it.
The vicious raptor on the smaller island stands on the rocks, and seems to pop up out of nowhere while you're busy dealing with the normal raptors.
Just to confirm this is true. Came to the island, cast root on a normal raptor, begin to kill it when 4 raptors including a viscious one come out of no where and kill my druid friend in about 3 seconds.
One must be very aware if trying to hunt these things. The whole islands are very dangerous.
dont really suggest fear kiting either, though this has worked for the better. I set up camp underwater just past the sunken palm trees and pulled to there. Bad thing is that vision is limited and if you arent on the bottom of the ocean your success rate upon casting is poor. But hey! It works...
