Oowomp can outrun people with sow on, your just lucky if he doesnt sow himself, but he can be outran if your a shaman and can cast Spirit of The Cheetah, a quick casting spell with insane speed, only lasts a few seconds, but is enough time to run and gate outa there.

Oowomp is easy I soloed him at lvl 40 with my druid. Don't dot him cuz he heals himself it's sooo annoying. Just cast Ensnare then firestrike him 'til he drops. I think I saw someone mention that you can't outrun Oowomp, but I outran him really easily with my lvl 40 druid with sow, and no he wasn't snared :P. He didn't drop anything worth selling to a player in the 4 hours I soloed him. Then a couple of others came and joined me, and of course, he finally dropped a chipped bone bracer, but I lost the roll. 6 hours of camping him, one thing drops, and I lose the roll. Argh!
How to keep him from running...
# Apr 22 2001 at 7:40 PM Rating: Default
Most mobs, if they have friends fighting beside them, won't run. The Great Oowamp is no exception.

A group of 4 of us...30 Monk (VERY well twinked), 27 Ranger, 30 Shaman, 30 Druid...were camping Oowamp. The only trouble we had with him was when he'd run, heal and gate back, only to run again. This would result in the two healers dumping too much mana, with Oowomp finally going down with very little hp left on our hp light monk. Until...

One pull, a low level Raider joined in and started swinging away at me (the Shaman and healer). He missed most of the time, didn't hit for more than 10 when he did connect, and didn't effect my healing at all, so I ignored him. That fight, Oowamp didn't run.

We tried it again...intentionally pulling an incompetent Raider along with Oowamp; Oowamp never ran. He was cake after that; 10-15 kills and absolutely no problems.

This has been confirmed by the group that took the camp after we left and see no reason why it wouldn't work every time. Just pull a friend to keep Oowamp from doing his flee and gate routine.

Some of you say you cant outrun him, and some say you can. Thats because he is a shaman, and have to sow himself. So pulling him before he sows himself is a good idea if you dont have snare. Sow will usually be his second spell. So when he pops you better be quick.

as a 37 necro i killed him about 10-15 times across a span of 2 hours. during that time he dropped 3 fine steel weapons, some assorted wines, 3 words, 2 runes, and 1 batskull earring (this was my first so i'm stoked!)

i would say that a very lucky 34 necro could probably hold the camp. but you would have to be lucky. in the end i wound up gating out because some of the ogres assisted and i didnt want the faction hits for them.

in all those kills the ogres assisted about 3 times. i only saw oowumpy try to gate once, and he never healed himself nor was he healed by anyone else.

a simple cure disease will remove his scourge.

some advice for necros: use your level 12 darkness, it has half the casting time and half the cost and it stuck for me about as often as the 29 darkness - and he resists a lot so conserving mana is a priority.

anyway: send pet, weak darkness, vampiric curse, VoS, dd, run around, dd, run around,dd - by that time he should be about dead. note that i was using the new velious dd which does 216 for me.

if you want to fear kite him, wait till he chases you away from his hut or else he will run into the water when feared and you cant spell him. this really bites :P.

also, he resisted my fears about 60% of the time or more - which was a huge waste of mana and why i just went to darkness and run.

good luck!

# Jul 18 2001 at 3:29 AM Rating: Decent
Please don't use level 12 darkness. It doesn't slow the MoB anywhere close to Dooming darkness. Plus, fear drops them in to walk mode, slowing them even further. Can someone post fear pathing? I will when I get there this weekend. Another issue with this is he has SoW unless you catch him quickly.

The people I hear talking about mana problems are darkelfs necros. It may be a problem for you, but I have 200 int on my erudite necro. I could take red cons with plenty of mana without getting hit once. (I hunt even/yellow/high blues however) That high AGI you have only helps when the mob isn't running scared :)

This guy has nice toys, but how much fun could it possibly be soloing. THIS IS A GAME PEOPLE...the fact that there is a line for him is sad. People should be grouping in dungeons and having fun. I'm a nec, I can relate to how boring soloing actually is. If you're not KoS in OT don't ***** over your faction because this guy has nice toys. A successful group in a dungeon comes complete with more thrills, spills, and action; unlike sitting and waiting for someone to get done with this guy. Skills and strategy make a better player in this game than toys (unless you're a melee, toys become important =]). You people should be in Guk or Sol or some other place getting slaughtered helplessy by a train of mobs 10 levels higher than you, simply because it's more fun. I hope I've shed some light on how to actually play the game =]

As someone who has both played in groups and soloed often there is something to be said for doing either. Soloing when one enjoys solitude and a different type of roleplay and grouping, another both have equal merit and anyone who simply judging others by being a "soloist" vs "non-soloist" is overlooking quite a lot. I for one have discovered lots about the game playing tourist, which is strictly a solo pursuit. In fact most of my guild thinks my character is quite crazed, going and wandering Norrath and taking snapshots of the most fearsome beasts. Grouping is wonderful for gain ep and comradeship, but nothing is quite as thrilling as sneaking up on something twice your level and photographing it and posting to the guild web page. I would say in conclusion the game is for everyone as so everyone plays differently, whats one mans poison is anothers meat.

I'd say I'm with you all the way on that one, I got my Dark Elf Illusion Mask from Lguk at lvl 13, granted I had no part in killing him, I just stayed alive long enough for him so spawn, and kept the group that was camping the room entertained with emotes, and they let me loot it.
Also, when I found out about the Rogue talilored armour from Velious, obviously i was /drooling, and I waited a few lvls, and at, um, 29 i think, i went to Wakening Lands, and wandered around looking for those stupid ground spawn leaves. I made sure Woushi was dead of course, but still, I shouldn't have been in that zone, plus i had to go through Kael.
Adventuring is fn awsome, /shrug, im lvl 30 still, been 30 fer quite some time, i've just been exploring places i should be exploring, hehehehehe, and thats how i get my kicks.

I've also soloed and grouped like, well, like everyone, though now i can't solo a damn thing that will still give me exp. And grouping is fun, but after awhile it gets tireing.
And don't get me wrong, im addicted to EQ like Clinton was addicted to his interns, but when i get that bored i turn off the game, hehe, anyone able to explain the /ooc "anyone wanna duel me? im bored?" /shout um, then logg off and see if you can figure out what RL is. /ooc RL?

When the boat to overthere comes into the docks oowomp will pop you have the amount of time the boat stays at docks to kill him before he only has common loot again . i tried this over and over , i am now the proud owner of 5 batskull earings .
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 27 2001 at 8:36 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Do you know how supid you sound? Items drops don't depend on certain things wondering around them, its time of day, rarity, maybe even a quest. But to get it to drop is just as easy as killing him. and If you spent 3 days camping him, how many pissed people did ya meet? I mean, did you keep all the items, sell them, give them away, what?
RE: Trigger for batskull earing
# Jul 09 2001 at 3:45 PM Rating: Default
I have 2 things to say to this. First this is not true. The loot that a MOB has on him is determined at the time of the spawn. Killing him within any timespan will not affect it. It might be more likely to have an item at a particular time of day or something along those lines. But killing him before the boat leaves will not help. The second thing I want to say is WOW you must really look wierd if you have 5 ears. So you camped this for 3 days (appearently you could kill him easily within a short time so you are probably high enough that you dont get exp) and kept people from getting the batskull earrings/sheer bone masks and all the rest of the good items, for their actual use. How freaking annoying. I could understand it if you got experience, or if noone else wanted the camp (3 days and noone wanted it???), but my guess is you were hogging this camp out of greed. Forgive me if I rant a bit here, but people that camp sites loot that they sell really bug me. No you down right **** me off. People like you keep the people who need better gear from getting it. I am a 35 necro who could just now hold this camp, but because there are level 50s who can make a fast buck camping it, I never get the chance. Instead the only way I can get a pair of batskull earrings is to buy it from some level 50 for 1000 plat. I camped the Ancient Croc from level 29 through 30 hell. I camped for days there. Not because of the items, but because of the exp. During those days I gave away (to people who needed them) 3 pairs of leggings and 2 pair of arms. They sell for 400pp each, but I felt it was only fair that if I kept the camp I would allow others to still get what they need and therefor I didn't make the game more difficult for others. Now that Verant has started cutting back on the loot (hill giants have gone on welfare others mobs seem to drop less than they used to) it seems like the only way I can earn that 1000 plat that you will ask for the pair of Batskull's, is to camp some other item that I can sell. Keeping someone else from getting what they want or need. Thank you for making the game worse for the rest of us.

This mob is what kills EQ for me. A single spawn mob with great items, not so rare drops, and a fast spawn rate. This is total crap to the average person trying to have a little fun in EQ. Oowomp = Farming, and farmers are a threat to the RP factor of the game. Why not take your level 48 character out to the planes and get some real loot and xp instead of camping this poor fellow with a level 35 guy waiting for you to finish so he can get his first pair of CBB's. I say level 48 character because every time I look, there's a level 48 camping him at all times, usually necro. I just think people like that should step aside and let the people through who need the loot, not farm for items that they are gunna sell and forget. To fix this, they need to either up the spawn time, or reduce the number of good items dropped. Expect this mob to get nerfed in the future. You abuse it, you lose it.

I feel your pain :-( However as long is there is a demand to buy items someone is going to supply it. Also to kinda add an angle you did not mention, maybe they can actually use the item. I am totally untwinked myself. Many times I end up going back to a lower lvl place to get something that I need to improve armor, weapons, ect. I solo allot so I am unable to get some things untill everything in a zone or dungeon is green and will not agro. If you are taking this guy at 35 you are either really good and/or grouping. That's cool as grouping is what the game is designed for. But I do think farming is a bad thing. If there was or is a lvl 48 character there strictly to get and sell the item they are so pathetic!! They truely are hurting the game allot. If it's not for themself or one of their other toons I say they need to leave the camp. Unless nobody is there waiting for it, then it's fair game. I really wish more items in EQ were no drop. This would make it harder for me to twink my lower lvl characters with my druid but I think it would help tremendously on the farming problem. Just my oponion, I could live without doing a super twink job on all my future toons.

I alway share the spawn, but know the average 35-38 single character cannot kill the mob easily, usally running for help. im not saying it cannot be done, im just saying it not easy. If you get XP for the MOB you have every right to be there, but if not, i agree you should move on. I dont buy items very often, and usally give thouse I cant use away. The only thing farming is used for is to twink another character. Im not into to that, so i agree with you whole heartedly.

I can understand the 48th lvl guy camping the mob for a short time, I know two peple right now that would gladlyt pay me for the loot, and when i have time and the spawn is NOT already camped i might sit awhile, but will gladly move aside for a lower lvl guy in need of the loot or the exp i might even try to help him out (ie:buff em good)I have never "farmed" a spawn and i personaly think those who do take from the game one of the best aspects of the game - charature creation I have worked hard on my girl and greatly lack a lot of the "really cool" things she needs only becuase i have spent the time trying to create a name for her and doing quests. if you really need money do the stien o mogguk quest (i can make a stien run in an hour and sell it in 10min for 180pp the run cost me about 25pp unless i can find a druid to help out) not a lot of money but i can get 1200pp in about 7 hours and dont have to sit and wait for a spawn. just some midless dribble from the mythmaker (i will give crack if you can find me)

Weakling
# Dec 17 2000 at 11:54 PM Rating: Decent
Oowomp is basically a weakling. Held camp soloing him as a 34 Mage. He was close to killing me only on 2 occasions, the 2 occasions he used his best DOT. With a few bandages that was no problem, however. He hits for max of 80 (rarely) and most of the time his hits are for 77 or lower. No faction on him. He does indeed have a large aggro range, but not much to be afraid of here. Casters in the mid 30's with pets should pay attention not to aggro him, although he is weak, casters are indeed weak as well (not to mention if you aggro him early in fight he seems to DOT more often). Let the pet whack on him, heal your pet some, then finish him off. He will attempt to gate and heal himself, but if you are combating him near his spawn point that is no problem. He will also waste precious time trying to strip buffs from pet and yourself that you may use to burn him down :)
Good luck on the drops...

Before You try to take him down because you have just been reading he is weak READ THIS : Im a shadowknight in the early 40´s YES one should believe a lvl40 against a lvl34 should do it ehh. Remember he is a caster with nasty spells. Let me tell you what this guy do often. first he kills your pet (sk pet is worth nothing) then when u have tried dark him (resists a lot) he cast some drowsy (slowing you down) spells on you. Then as told he hits you dmg70/80 and remember is your fear takes hold on him 2 out of 5 times he will run out in the water where u will have a hard time. I just posted this just to tell that maybe a caster type (with pet) or/and sow will take this oow down easily but i can tell as a sk you will have a hard time.

I have camped this guy many times from level 39 to 44 (current). The drops mentioned earlier are very precise. And the EXP is wonderful. I disagree with letting people know about things like this. The whole reason we have these discussion boards is to share information, not to hog it. There are plenty other good spawns in the game. The more we mention, the more there will be =)

Let me just clear some things up:

This is NOT a FFA mob.
This is a LIST mob. Meaning, you want to camp him, get on the list.
Respect others wishes to camp him alone, and not share.

He spawns every 6 minutes. Drops lotsa goods. Casts Scourge (~500 point DOT), Root, and Gates back to his spawn point. When he gates he will heal himself, and be healed by the other Ogres in the area.

Fight him from the North side. And pull him away from his hut. This way you will prevent tagalong Ogres.

Peace to All

RE: Great camp, Be nice
# Dec 13 2000 at 3:44 AM Rating: Default
If you want to get technical, they're all PNP, which is neither FFA nor list; it's "share by alternating" -- or in other words, "you're both jacked now, and you might as well go somewhere else, since your xp gain and chances of decent loot just went to a tiny fraction of what it was before".

If it were a common wandering mob, then sure, it would be FFA. Since it's a static camp, it's a list mob, so that the next person who gets there can go get stuff done while waiting for his turn to have the camp to himself. Anything to avoid the PNP.

Just remember that lists are a made by players, for the convenience of players, and are not "supported" by the GM's -- whereas KS'ing is an officially recognized offense. Camp-stealing sure won't make him any friends, but KS'ing a camp-stealer can still get you punished.

Just /petition and invoke the PNP to make the camp-stealer share. They will quickly learn why players invented lists, and since camp-stealers tend to be the impatient type, they'll probably leave within a few spawns. :)

As any well informed rule breaker could easy do a /who every spawn cycle to see if a gm is in the zone as all the rules have the stipulation WHEN WITNESSED, in them. GM's never go annon either. They just port in on over and spew a bunch of bull and try to make everyone happy (never works, hey the guy just ksed the Anchint Clops ive been waiting all day for! Typical GM responce, well I did not see it so you have to wait for the next one). The only all FFA spawn servers are on the PvP servers were you kill the guy camping the spawn and take it over. Or when no GM's are on (rare on most servers).

I rarely post and even rarer do I flame, but come on! What have you been smoking Treebringer. You want to spout opinion go ahead, i am all for free speech but don't tout BS as fact. Its better to remain silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

The GM/Guide staffing and scheduling is such that there are often times when there are none on. Further more, GM/Guides go anon all the time!!! The go full anon in that they don't even show up on a /who. They do this so they can be an invisible witness while on investigations. Its a standard part of their job and they are anon a lot more than they are visible!

You want to share with everyone your opinions of FFA or GMs lousy CS or anything else that is opinion go ahead. But don't talk like you know something when you don't know jack.
Oowomp, his drops and his faction!
# Nov 07 2000 at 1:33 PM Rating: Good
1) Killing Oowomp results in no faction hit.
2) He spawns every 6 minutes or so.
3) A level 35 Magician can solo him with relative ease. A druid can as well ...kite his ***!
4) His drops are: Mead, Honey Mead, Fine Steel (maces and staves, usually), Batskull Earrings, Chipped Bone Bracers, Sheer Bone Mask, Bone Legplates, Bone Armplates, Turtleshell Helm and Chipped Bone Collars.
5) The XP vs. Kill time for this mob is amazing!
6) You can camp him up to level 47 for XP. Just don't farm items and hog the spawn once you go beyond 47.

There is a room that is guarded by Faydedar the dragon, called the pot room. In that room there is a portal to each of the citys. This room is used by GM's to get around, so I'm told. Way back in the day people could bind there, and when they nurfed that the prople who were bound there were allowed to stay bound there.
Easy enough

I've never ever seen Haddan "camped" before on Lany's and been playing there sense right around day one. I mean camped as in more then one person there and never heard anyone ask speificlly if he was being camped. Mostly killed by people running though and out of couriousity check to see if he is spawned, or if someone picks him up on track and shouts it to the zone.
A little info...

1 - I have many friends who have camped him for some time and they have had no faction problems so far from killing him.

2 - His drops are rare. I killed him for 2 hours and did not get a single item beyond basic loot.

3 - Not sure why but sometimes the Ogre in the hut will pull with him. I pull with Tashania, which is a single target spell, and on occasion the other Ogre will pull as well.

4 - Scourge is diseased base. If you wish to avoid this make sure you have your DR up a bit.

5 - He has only cast his Cold DD, Cancel Magic, Greater Heal, Scourge, Tagur's Insects, Quickness, Spirit of the Wolf, and Gate.

Hope this aids you in some fashion.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 18 2001 at 10:47 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Replace scourge with infectious cloud and you would be correct.
RE: A little info...
# Aug 27 2001 at 8:45 PM Rating: Default
keep scourge and he would be correct and you would need to learn some stuff. :P
and, becareful when he gates, he will start coming at you right afterwards and will have been healed.
DE Faction at Overthere
# Aug 20 2000 at 8:41 AM Rating: Decent
The faction you need to fix is Venril Sathir, it can be fixed via the Red Wine quest in Neriak. I do not know the quest details, but a friend of mine (gnome) used it to be able to avoid dragoon attacks.

The Red Wine quest will not fix Kunark factions.

It will give you positive Dark Bargainers and a few others but the only way I am aware of to get Venril Sathir faction is the Sarnak War Braid quest with Capt. Rottgrime in the Fortress in The Overthere.
RE: DE Faction at Overthere

A friend of mine is a human magician, she did the red wine quest and now she is not kos in the outpost. She is not kos to anyone there.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 18 2001 at 10:44 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) they are dubious by default i believe.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 18 2001 at 10:44 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) lol... human magicians are not KoS there by default.
RE: DE Faction at Overthere
# Oct 20 2000 at 7:29 AM Rating: Default
I'm a gnome magician & I've never done the Neriak red wine quest but I am not KOS in the evil outpost on Kunark or to the Ogres on Ogre island. It may be deity specific - I'm agnostic
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 19 2000 at 9:58 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hmm, what The Great Oowomp have you been killing? I just know the one my bro's killing on the other comp right now is giving 0 faction hits... no good hits, no bad hits. =)
Faction

Hey all you evil races out there, be careful! I have killed this guy several times and now i'm KOS in the Overthere Port because of it. I am a DE sk and hoping for a way to fix my faction---please respond if you know how
#REDACTED, Posted: May 18 2001 at 10:41 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Killing him has no faction of any kind. You were killing other ogres to probably.
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 28 2000 at 2:53 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) kill sarnarks and goblins around overthere zone
RE: Faction
# Aug 28 2000 at 10:45 PM Rating: Default
No, killing sarnaks and goblins will not increase your faction in Overthere. The only two ways I know is through Berzerker War Braids (hard to do if you are KOS) and the wine quest in Neriak.
RE: Faction
# Oct 04 2000 at 4:46 PM Rating: Default
You are wrong! doing the wine quest in neriak third gate ie giving lokar tobiath red wine does nothing for your venril sathir faction. i suggest killing sarnak berzerkers and having a friend invis you while you turn in four at a time. i hope this helps
RE: Faction
# Oct 04 2000 at 4:52 PM Rating: Default
give the undead marine capt four sarnak warbraids. his name is capt "Rotgrime". if you are KOS you may have to have a friend invis you while you're turning in the war braids. it may take many many braids to recover your faction.

As to the farming question its because he drops the chipped bone bracer, sheer bone mask, and batskull earring

Spawn time is six minute, and he runs like the wind, allmost cheetah, faster than jboots for sure.

what are you talking about? i accidently pulled him while grabing raiders for my group(no sow) and he only stayed up with me because i ran right past him while on my return trip.
#Anonymous, Posted: Sep 30 2000 at 8:41 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Not true, he's easy to outrun with sow... trust me, i've been camping this guy from level 37 to 42, he's pretty easy to outrun, it's just his DOT that's a pain
#REDACTED, Posted: May 18 2001 at 10:36 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) his DoT is a crappy 150 damage disease based dot and an even worse insect spell.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 21 2001 at 3:02 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) nah, its <scourge> and not <disease cloud>,
