I charmed him and it says he casts air elemental invisibility it is a permanent invis.

Royal Guards are infact, INVISIBLE! Yes, it's true. I was there and I had see invis on, and I saw him, with his name surrounded my parenthisis. Now you know why when you pull from the tower, that these little buggers come after you...

As I was hunting here in group with some friends I brought down the Royal Guard. He was hitting me for 30 and I was a lvl 16 Druid at the time. He then Backstabbed me for 82 points which to a druid with 250 some hp its hurts.

This guy can be a pest as he cast spells and turn invisible he also can have a mean backstab, if you are a young character, a royal guard can be tough. I don't think I've seen the royal guard cast any other spells than invisible. He can backstab and cast spells so I don't know what class he would be. If you are lucky enough to kill him, or loot him, he ussualy drops nice bronze weapons which can be sold to merchants for a few platinum pieces each. a lvl 15 should be able to solo one, if the guard did'nt have any help. Don't go into the throne room or the tower at low levels or you will die like a helpless insect, and afterword have a real fun time getting your corpse back. Don't camp in the throne room, but that is another story.

He's probably a rogue. They can hide and cast fear-like spells. Rogues are also the only class that can backstab.

I was camped right next to a royal guard and it cast a spell. Then the text popped up saying royal guard has disappeared. So royal guard are not always invisble , but can make themself so.
The case of the vanishing guard has been sovled watson. . .

Many of these posts say that the Royal Guard is invisible. Having camped the tower for quite a while I can tell you exactly why it appears he is invis. If you go outside of the castle and walk around to the East you will see that you can actually walk underneath the tower area. The Royal Guard at times will spawn underneath the stair case that leads up into the tower. When you walk up the steps and the Guard is below he will agro and normally pop up onto the steps. Sometimes you may not see him or he may hit you from below the steps. Also be warned that if the guard agros there is a good chance that dvinn will as well.

Also, the Royal Guard is able to backstab allthough I have never had him cast on me. He also seams to have a fairly high magic resistance and can break through root pretty quick.

Just when he's in rogue invis and backstabs u that's a problem. I'd also like to add that my monk has a full set of cured silk, foreman's tunic and fighting baton. Which is why he was probably easy. Sometime's he's a rogue, sometime's a warrior. BEcause i saw him do a crit on this poor Wood Elf for 73 points of damage. Very Ouch.

its a spell the RG casts the second it pops. just cancel magic. :) (if i am wrong please tell me as i'm only a lvl 14 druid and dont have the spell yet.)

Hmm Ive been there and got very often the "Royal Guard begins to cast a spell" message suddenly Ive never been close enough to see what he casts but I think it was some kind of buff, I'd say they can be shamen or clerics too gonna check this.

Well I learned something.. best thing to do when you go into the castle is cast see invis on everybody. That cures that problem.

Little secret I have learned throught the grape vine, how fast you do this is imparitive. When in this area around the RG if you have a piece of junk item or something that you don't want like a jar of milk or something hold it in the mouse pointer when in this area. The oricles will heal the RG if he has any damage done to him and that is a locater to start with. Then take the junk item and click on the area that you think he is at and a trade will start - hit cancel and you whamo you have him targeted. You can also buy something called a preserved splitpaw eye that lets you see invisbiliy and has 5 charges i believe.

It has an effect called glimpse,the Preserved Split Paw Eye i have it.

Last night, while running from a train in the Throne Room, I was rooted, by an Orc Oracle I believe. I could not move for a good long while.
An invisible Royal Guard started hitting me, and was never visible (I used the overhead view to look).
They've attacked me at least twice while invisible. Rules that apply to characters don't apply to NPCs and mobs. They can attack invisbly and cast spells while running.

Wrong, its a glitch in the game, if they try to run through a wall for a little bit, like 10 sec, they become invisible

I haven't had the pleasure of actually fighting in the castle yet, having just arrived on Faydwer. However, on a dare from some silly wood elf, I snuck and hid my way into the throne room (where a party was already engaged in battle).

While hiding, I targeted one of those royal guards that this wood elf kept telling me could see through invis, and the orc conned Indifferently to me. I assumed this meant he couldn't see me, but I guess I'll be very careful next time I decide to go sneaking around, regardless...

Well, this lil Rogue was sneaking around the castle, hoping to get some snaps of DVinn. So as I walk up, the Royal Guard jumps me and DVinn joins in. As an 11 Rogue my life was short. DVinn had the dirk too :( Also, On my way back, the oracle behind the table saw through sneak+hide. Be careful fellow Rogues.

I hope this clears things up a little. Rogues love to sneak around and see what kind of trouble they can get into, as do all rogues its in thier nature. Well of course silly me never really knew what I was getting in to. We had already killed Dvinn and his croud a few minutes ago but I had to go behind the thrown, just to see what was there. I saw nothing but a tunnel so I turned around and started heading out. Then poof backstab 78 damage. I know it wasn't my pointy object that did that did it. Turning around I saw a stumpy little guy with a dagger. Imagine a rogue getting backstabbed, what kind of irony is that. Needless to say the RG wasn't that hard I almost killed him untill the rest of his friends decided to respawn again. So there lies my body at the foot of the RG and see those famous words Loading Please wait.......
Needless to say I found out that those things see invisable/camo/hide-sneak sice I couln't get past the thrown for any reason, everything aggroed. After Some help from a friend (Klover) and some help from a few higher levels clearing the room I was able to recover and only loosing 2 bubs in the process. Conclusion: Curiosity killes the rogue.
