Killed by lvl 85 Shaman
# Apr 03 2010 at 1:13 PM Rating: Decent
Level 85 Shaman took him down with Tier 5 Merc and pet. Modestly Geared, 24K Mana 25K HP unbuffed, 1300 AAs. He popped from the trap in the Northwest corner back behind the pyramid. I clear the area of mobs around the traps before I trigger them.

My strategy required some repetative buffing prior to triggering each of the traps along the North wall (thus potentially spawning the Fabled).

1) Lassitude on Merc and Pet 2) Wild Growth on Merc 3) Spirit of Panther (or Lynx) on Merc and Pet. 4) Halcyon Whisper on Pet, Me, then Merc.

Trigger trap. I would run over the trap and keep moving to a safe pulling spot far enough away to hopefully not get immeditate aggro from the Fabled Prismatic Basilisk.

1) Cast Healing Counterbias or Balance of Discord on Fabled 2) Epic click 3) Heal the Merc, Refresh Halcyon Whisper, HEAL the Merc! DoT Fabled, HEAL the Merc! Refresh Panther or Lynx, HEAL the Merc! Recast Balance of Discord on Fabled half way through the fight. DoT Fabled. Keep Healing the Merc!

The fight took about 2 min. Had an add start beating on me at the start. I slowed it and ignored it; just kept Healing the Merc first and foremost. Ended the fight with 31% Mana left. I would say this fight is less difficult than soloing named yard mobs in Field of Scale.
Planning required

The kill, when all goes well, is relatively straight-forward and easy. Planning is required for all to go well.

1) The place holder(s) is/are the needlescale basilisks which spawn from traps mostly along the north wall. There are 5 traps, starting immediately outside of the entrance (east wall), continuing (3 of them) along the entire stretch of the north wall), and ending just a little to the left (west) along the west wall. Apparently, 1 in 5 spawns from each trap will be either a place holder or the named (Fabled A Prismatic Basilisk). In addition, 1 in 5 spawns from any of the traps will be either the place holder or the named. The traps are on about a 15 minute timer.

2) It is not clear to me yet how many place holders need to be killed before the named popped. We killed anywhere from 5-10 to 25-30. It also is not clear to me if the wandering basilisks, when killed, affect the ratio. Probably it is best to kill every basilisk within easy reach.

3) The main "problem" is that everything in the zone aggroes. Thus, expect to get lots of "adds" when running through the zone, even just along the north wall. While most everything is green to a level 81 ranger, 3-5 of them at a time can be a bit challenging, as well as annoying. The most annoying are the trees, which remove levitate/SoE, and cast some root/slow DOT spell repeatedly which almost always lands.

4) While not absolutely necessary, it probably would be best to have a monk or necro set off the traps, to be able to feign death when the fabled pops. Unfortunately, on our first attempt (lvl 82 mage + healer merc; lvl 82 necro + healer merc; lvl 82 cleric; lvl 81 ranger), the mage pulled and was killed before all of us had a chance to set up properly. Even more unfortunately, the fabled killed the mage right at the zone-in point, where the bas*#$@D waited and killed the ranger when he tried to zone back in. At which point, a lvl 85 mage + healer merc killed the fabled, and announced that our group was never likely to kill it.

5) The second attempt went better, but just as we were set up to pull, the fabled de-spawned. That's right: this fabled de-spawns in about 15 to 30 minutes, even though other fabled mobs in the zone never seem to despawn.

6) On the 3rd attempt (about 45 minutes after the 2nd), we succeeded without difficulty. The mage's pets did most of the damage, with the necro doing whatever necros do and the ranger blasting with arrows (trueshot, but no haste) from behind. The pets never went below about 50% health, and the cleric never came close to running out of mana. The whole fight lasted less than 1 minute (more like 30-45 seconds).
He was in back for me

I was clearing from zone in to the pryamid in the north. Cleared for about 45 mins the first time. Then for about 20 mins on the second spawn. He does hit hard and fast. Both spawns where in teh back behind the pryamid. 85 Ranger and t5 merc was enough but just barely when he enrages at end.

I have camped this fabled over 3 days for a total of 8+ hours. He spawned in front of the zone in second trap. I pulled him to the little cubby and he proceded to whip my tail. It hit hard and fast. Bring a tank.
Where and how I did it.

Just pulled gators by the little cubby midway down the north wall. Spawned after about 3-4 cycles.
Duo'd with 85 bard (2400 aa)/78 ranger (50 aa) and 2 merc healers.
Mob hits fast even with bard slow. Used bard first spire, then shield of notes, and finished with deftdance discipline.
